    Does not stay in freezer mode

    We have owned this freezer for 1 week. We put frozen food in it the first afternoon (after it had chilled to 0 degrees F, according to the door temperature gauge and the wifi app). The freezer was in FREEZE mode. The next day we went to get something from the freezer in the evening, and it had changed from freezer to refrigerator mode, and the internal temperature was 46 degrees F! Everything had thawed. After much finger pointing (who changed the mode!?!) We reset it and put it in Freezer mode again, set it to 0 degrees F, and waited. The next morning: back in refrigerator mode, 46 degrees F. We pointed a security camera at the front of the freezer. Nobody changed the setting. It did it all by itself. I have reset the freezer using the control panel, unplugged it and plugged it in, and tried everything I can think of to get it to work. It simply DOES NOT STAY IN FREEZER MODE. I cannot trust an appliance like this with hundreds of dollars of food. The app is worthless - you can adjust the temperature and see what mode the unit is in, but you cannot change the mode. The freezer does that spontaneously and the only way to change it back is from the control panel on the front of the door. It also does not notify you if the mode changes between fridge and freezer. I'd think that would be an important thing to notify you about since it could ruin hundreds of dollars of food if it changes mode spontaneously as mine has done 5 times in the first week of ownership! We will be returning this and purchasing a different brand unit with a mechanical (dial) temperature control.

    A great extra fridge

    For a long while my wife had been complaining that she wanted more freezer space. Over time I was able to surreptitiously ask questions to devine if she ever had an extra freezer, what type she would want (upright), what approximate size she would want (something between 10 to 15 cubic feet), and where it should be located (a specific area in our garage). So I measured the prospective space, did my research, and found this unit that had not only a great efficiency rating, but the right amount of storage space and the necessary dimensions to fit where I needed it to go. In addition, it came with a fancy LCD display on the front (which I thought looked cool), a Wi-Fi enabled door left ajar and low-temp warning system, and also fell within my budget. So one day out of the blue, my wife was surprised to find some BB delivery folks pull up to the house and drop off this freezer, something that she had been wanting to have for years. She was tickled pink! Had some problems with the BB delivery folks though (they failed to attach to bottom decorative cover plate to the unit before leaving, failed to leave the attachment screws for said decorative cover plate, and failed to leave the product manual with the unit), but a quick trip to the Internet for the manual, and a quick trip to the hardware store for some screws, quickly remedied those problems. The manual was needed for its instructions on how to setup the Wi-Fi connection for the unit (I never would have figured out how to do it otherwise). Aside from the delivery problems, this has been a great little freezer for the misses so far. It has pleanty of capacity for her, and will likely service us well for years to come. If it breaks, or the door is left open, I'll get an automatic warning to the Insignia Connect app on my phone, which is a fantastic feature for a garage freezer where problems like that might otherwise go undiscovered for a LONG time. Every once in a while I like being able to check the LCD display on the front of the unit, or the Insignia App to verify that the unit is working as expected. Overall very pleased so far, and would purchase this unit again in a heartbeat.

    Refrigerator will not sufficiently cool

    With great expectation I purchased two of these units over the Black Friday weekend. As a freezer I would give the unit 5 stars. As a refrigerator, I would give the unit 2.5 stars. As such, this review is for using the unit as a refrigerator. In short, the unit fails to keep a sufficiently cool temperature when using it as a refrigerator; it does not seem to have an accurate thermostat. To keep my foods (especially meats) away from the danger zone of 40 degrees or above, I have set the stat to 35. However, the units (either one), even when set to 35, largely keep the temperature around 39.6 degrees. I measured the temperature with two different high-quality/high-tolerance thermometers. They are within .2 - .5 degrees of one another, both breaching 40 degrees on occasion. I have seen the units drop as low as 37.5 degrees--but never lower. The drop in temp seems to happen only when the refrigerator temperature exceeds or touches the 40 degree mark. For those that feel comfortable with a refrigerator hanging out around 40 degrees, then this is the product for you. However, for me, it flirts too closely with the "danger zone" (above 40 degrees) too often. Plus, a product should not be off by as much as 5 degrees. (Currently, my garage temperature where the units are located, is about 45 degrees.). As a result, I do not feel comfortable using the unit to store thawed meats--at least for any prolonged period of time. For those that may be curious. I measured the units' temperatures as freezers and they both worked superbly. The coldest setting is negative 11 degrees F. I measured the units at around negative 13 F.

    My wife and I decided that the chest freezer just wasn't cutting it anymore. We knew that we wanted an upright but wasn't sure where to start. I researched various freezers and we went to Lowe's, Home Depot, and Best Buy to look at freezers. Our local BB did NOT have this particular freezer on display but we had an idea as to what size and options to look for. This freezer has everything that we want and need. We are truly impressed that this being a private label (BB brand), the high quality and features it offers. In addition to the adjustable shelves, the bright interior light, the bottom wire container, frost-free, and open door alert, this freezer also has a wifi feature. We downloaded the Insignia Connect to our iPhones and am now able to adjust the temperature and monitor our freezer. The freezer will even alert you via this app when the door has been left ajar or the temperature is out of range. Can't say enough good things about this freezer. For the price, quality, and features, it truly is a "Best Buy." (OK, that sounded corny, but comparing this freezer, feature for feature to other freezers, this one wins, hands down)

    Waste of money

    I am disappointed about this product. In the last 3 months I've had to clean out my freezer and throw away all the contents twice. For some reason the freezer will randomly change to refrigerator mode cause everything to thaw. Contacted support and they weren't very helpful. Had no reason for why this happened even though it is connected to there servers. Also would only look into a refund on the food if I had receipts. I'm sorry but who keeps food receipts. The only thing they said we could do was wait another month or so and see if this happens again. The smart features of this product is a joke. You can adjust the temp in the mode it's in and see what settings is currently at but that's it. Not able to change any other settings and no alerts which is one of the advertised features. Overall I would suggest not buying this unless you want to spend more money on replacing food then you did on the freezer.

    Wifi none existant

    The freezer is a nice size and freezes well. (The reason for the 3 star rating) It is nice to see the little blue dot on the outside showing the power is on. BUT if you are buying this for the wifi benefits DON'T! They don't exist. (I give it a 0) We have had 2 of these freezers delivered from BestBuy. The first one plugged in connected to our wifi. It would show the internal temperature and would let you change the temp. But would not give you door left open, no wifi or high temperature alerts (these were the main reason we bought this unit). Had another freezer brought out same response. Insignia customer service sucks! We tried to work with them first via multiple emails and phones calls. They said nothing was wrong with the app we must have gotten a "bad" freezer. Even when the second freezer was delivered and had the same issues they offered no help. There was a recent app update and it has just made matters worse. It won't even connect to our "device". I would not buy again! Especially if you want wifi capability!

      Hello Robin AZ,thank you very much for your review, I am sorry to read that you had a hard time with the app usage and setup, after checking this information, the new update did overwrote the setup you had on the previous version however after updating, you need to reset the app and do the first time setup one more time. The high temperature alert can take up to 18 hrs to be sensed as freezer warms up and the door alert requires the door to be opened for 5 minutes.     Love at First Site, Now Not So Much

    I initially loved this freezer. The app for the wi fi worked great and was easy to connect. About 3 months after the purchase the wifi/app quit working. When I contacted Insignia customer service via email they told me that they did an update and as a result many users could no longer use the App until they found a fix. They said their product engineers were working on it. I waited a couple weeks and their response was “it could be quite some before it’s fixed.” How can they continue to sell this freezer knowing the the wife/App do not work? This is fraudulent. I purchased the freezer for this feature and am so frustrated. I spent hours trying to reconnect the wifi app before I contacted them. If they knew they had problems after their update, why didn’t they contact customers to let them know what happened. If it wasn’t for this issue I would have given a 5 start rating. I love the number of shelves, the shelves on the side have a lot of space. But, you can not sell a product knowing that the wifi app does not work for everyone. I have an iphone.

    I have purchased this product because the price was great, it has a fridge mode as well, in which I wasn’t planning on using. I have now lost a total of over $600.00 of meats due to the freezer -even when in the “lock” position just randomly switches to the fridge mode- This happened twice-all meat was ruined. I have contacted Insignia and all they have done for me is simply email me back and forth with absolutely no help. My brand new freezer/fridge now sits empty because I simply cannot afford to continue to lose food. I tried everything from unplugging to turning off wifi and resetting everything. I also have no idea what the app is for- it doesn't notify you when there is a drop in temp or as far as I know it doesn't really do anything at all. I absolutely would not recommend this product to anyone.

    Yes, it COULD be a refrigerator full of beer if you choose a higher temperature setting, but I'm using it strictly as a freezer. It got cold very quickly and I love the light inside. It's very quiet and the shelves are amply spaced. Love that the bottom is a 'basket' so it's easy to access those items. Unlike other reviewers, I didn't feel the need to sync this appliance to my phone / WiFi.... I couldn't figure out when I would ever need it, being retired and staying close to home most of the time. My only negative is that the door seal suction is so great, that the whole freezer sometimes slides on my tile floor when we are opening the door. If it were in a garage, this wouldn't be an issue, so am staying with the full 5 star rating.

    We purchase this freezer for dual features and WiFi. Here are problems: 1. WiFi app. Does not work for freezer. For freezer gave temp range from 12-38 degrees. Raising temp on its own and switching from fridge to freezer. We had in freezer and almost lost contents. Contacted insignia and they said don’t use apt does not work. Deleted app. Using manual for freezer and started on own switch from freezer to fridge. Returned freezer and replaced with frigidare manual only. Best Buy customer service very helpful with return and delivering new freezer. But with this freezer it seems there are considerable amount of problems with app. And switching between modes.

    Seems like the main fridge never has enough freezer storage so a second one is nice to have esp when the grocery stores have good sales on items. This one (and an insignia fridge) replace a 30+ yr old side by side Hotpoint which was wheezing on it's last legs. It was a good second appliance but seemed to be running a lot. We're hoping these 2 new replacement appliances are more efficient and cut the electric bill, but we don't expect them to last even half as long as the old Hotpoint. The freezer is a good size, seems to freeze items quickly and hold the temperature well. So much better than a top-opening freezer where you have to bend over and dig down to the bottom to find stuff. We'll see how well these appliances do over time.

    This is a nice size freezer and with adjustable shelving makes it very convenient. We had a freezer about this size before but you could not level it and the shelves were in fixed positions. This freezer has feet that can be adjusted so the unit is level. We have a solid concrete slab that this sits on which is not level so being able to adjust the feet so it is is a great benefit because it allows the door to close properly and therefore creates a good seal. Being able to move the shelves makes this a lot more convenient to use. The ability to get notices when the door is left open or the temperature goes to high is a great advantage as well.

    Good freezer, but known issues

    As a freezer, this does great. The shelves are nicely spaced and it’s a good size without being massive and taking up too much space in our garage. My reason for knocking off two stars is for two reasons. First, the WiFi features are useless. I’m constantly getting alerts it has lost WiFi connection, even though it’s only 32 feet from my router and I can get a strong signal over 200 feet away from my house. Don’t buy this if you want to rely on any features associated with the WiFi. The second star is knocked off because this has been reported to Insignia for a long time and they haven’t addressed it with either a change to the freezer or the app.

    Freezer / Fridge - Switching

    Had delivered on Monday. Setup to operate in Freezer mode. Tuesday.... in Freezer mode Connected to WIFI and the Insignia Connect app. Wednesday morning I discovered it switched to Fridge mode in middle of night. Manually placed back to Freezer mode Thursday morning discovered it switched back to Fridge mode. Placed back to Freezer mode. Friday, discovered it went back to Fridge mode. Discconnected from WIFI. Placed back in Freezer mode. Will check Saturday morning to see if it switches back to Fridge May be an app glitch. Luckily I have not filled it with frozen food items

    I absolutely LOVE this freezer. It is the perfect size for our family of five. I like to stock up on items when they are on sale and now I have a freezer to put them in! I have yet to use it as a refrigerator but I think because it's not a huge item that it could easily be swapped over to a refrigerator if you have a party coming up and need more room. I love that there is a light outside letting me know all is well and every time I open the door it digs to let me know. I have three kids and have caught them in there looking for ice cream a few times.....lol. If you are not looking for a freezer to keep a side of beef or any large amounts like that, this one is definitely a contender!!

    All Good But the WiFi

    We bought this freezer since it was one of very few that would fit in a space we needed a freezer to go. All is working well except the WiFi. The Geek Squad came out to look at the WiFi situation and even they were unable to get the WiFi working. The problem came down to not hooking up with the house router, which is a mere 8-10 feet away from the freezer. Best Buy was kind enough to rebate $50 back to us for the issue. We like the freezer and it does keep our food frozen and the panel on the front door is a good touch so we can see the status of the freezer.

    We were a bit anxious with the make "Insignia" as we were not familiar with this brand. Now knowing that it is Best Buy’s own brand and has there full support, we are more comfortable. It is great to have the temperature on the screen on the door and the led light inside is a good feature. Lots of storage and like have the basket at the bottom. Have not been able to get the WiFi alert to function but are very happy with the freezer.

    We purchased this freezer because we didn’t have enough space in our bottom freezer refrigerator so we decided to go with an upright freezer and it was the best decision we made. This is a great freezer, it has lots of room, even the door has enough space to store food and it freezes well, but the door has really hard suction. I guess that’s ok because the freezer is great. Can’t go wrong with this one.

    Wifi application is useless, also rated poor at the app store by other customers. A recent update of the App has made it even more troublesome. I deleted the App from my smartphone and now just adjust the Freezer manually. Unit get's rated a 3 from me because of how long this Freezer model has been selling and to still have a problem with the Wifi app is ridiculous to say the least. " Let's get with it Insignia ! "

    Nice smaller size. Attractive inside and out. Quiet - does not run much and then just a low hum - no frost build up. Consistent interior temperature measured by separate thermometer is between -7º and +5º. However, the highly touted wifi app does not work with my iPhone7. Two people in addition to me have tried to hook up the freezer to the app with no positive results. O/W I would rate it five stars.
