The picture looks a little off if you are withen 3 ft but from across the room it looks fine. Sound quality is fine. Great tv for a room where it doesnt get used all the time.

You are correct that if you get extremely close to the television screen (of any model) the screen will be less clear that from an optimum viewing distance. This has to do with the way that the lines of resolution are dispersed across the vertical height of the screen. Best Buy was great when I went to exchange my television; however, once viewing the floor model I opted to get a different tv with better quality.
