Always a good idea to protect your lens, and what easier way than a UV filter - Insignia doesn't disappoint on this one - it seems to be up to the task.

This is overall a good filter to have for your camera. I wouldn't recommend it for pro use, but for general use (hobbyists and beginners) it works fine. Decently priced. When you do get to the pro level, you do need to start paying attention to the quality of glass used, so these may not be high enough quality for pro grade. But for the budget shopper or hobbiyst, they work fine. If you can afford a little more, get the Premium line that bestbuy carries (it's in a black box, can't remember the brand name).

Although not top of the line it works well as a uv filter and protector for lens scratchs

This little filter protects my lens and helps improve my photos.

I know there are several opinions on basic filters - I bought this filter to keep the salt air, occasional bikini water splash, beach sand and sunscreen fingers off of the main lens. It's inexpensive enough so that after some tough field service, I don't feel guilty spending the money to replace it.

I recommend using a lens cap if you plan on walking around with your camera a lot. If you happen to rub against something that could cause harm to the Lens its a lot easier to change out a cap then the Lens it self.

what I usually use wasn't available so I opted to try the Insignia. This is the first of this brand I've used and I am very happy with it. I would not hesitate to buy this brand again.

Insignia™ - 40.5mm UV Lens Filter - Black a must have to protect that Lens investment. I do have to take it off the camera on occasions to prevent glare on some night time shots.
