I bought two of these before the heat hit this year. Easy to set up, just need to trim the insert so everything lines up right. Everything feels a little cheap plastic like it will break easily. For my set up the exhaust hose is either too short or too long for where I could put it. I finally turned them on and had sweet cold air. I also couldn't hear anything. They are so amazingly loud and when the condenser kicks on it sounds like an old refrigerator that's about to die. For the money I wish I had just bought a mini split system

Pros: 1) Really strong cold air, cools the room down quickly. 2) Has wheels for easy movement. 3) Easy to set up. Cons: 1) The security bracket to connect the hose to the window is too long with the extender, but too short without it (for my ~20-inch window) 2) Really noisy, especially in a small room. It's okay for daytime use, but bad for sleep.

Was facing an imminent heat wave and our in window a/c units weren’t getting installed until a week later. My elderly mom would not have been able to manage the heat without some sort of relief. Bought this portable one mainly because 1) delivery would be before the heat was at a peak, 2) I could hook it up myself in minutes (I did), and 3) the price I paid for a portable unit this size and capacity was less at BestBuy than anywhere else. Trust me I searched. And lastly, you still have a window view, not an a/c blocking it instead. Within 2 1/2 days of ordering it online I was unboxing the unit and installing it in the window in her room. Mom loved it. It’s easily set up. Very portable with its wheels and reasonably low weight I could easily lift it up steps via the recessed side handles. It’s cooling ability is impressive. Not whisper quiet but not loud by any comparison.. I think it’s quieter than the window unit it has replaced. Left this in mom’s room and had her window unit installed in a different room since honestly, this unit cools her room (15X 30ish) and further out into the hallway much better than the previous window unit. I bought some replacement window sash locks to doubly safeguard the window (it doesn’t budge) and actually feel this is a safer option for a lower floor because of those. I recommended this so highly that my brother and his wife went and bought one immediately afterwards. I might buy another and put it upstairs in the walk up attic. I absolutely recommend this unit. And BestBuy delivered in on the promised day... free.

My home is a tad over 1,000 sf. My central A/C crapped out on me and I bought 2 of these units to hopefully carry us through until I got the system replaced. Turns out that these 2 units cool my entire home. They were SUPER EASY to install and work outstandingly. Even when the temps outside are in the 90's, they keep my entire home nice and cool. I've also noticed that my electric bill HAS NOT gone up from using them as opposed to the central A/C system. The ONLY drawback I've found is that they work so well, I've found myself putting off having my central A/C system replaced! Would I recommend these units? ABSOLUTELY! They're effective, efficient, and very reasonably priced. Hope this helps.

I purchased this last month & wanted to wait until I had used it some before writing a review. We now have had some very hot weather and I have to say it works very well.Put this in an upstairs bedroom as central air doesn't cool it down a lot.Well I have been very pleased with the way it cools. Now the reason I only gave it 4 stars is 2 fold.1.To use it as a dehumidifier would entail a lot of monkeying around as it would be a pain to drain the small reservoir. 2.The low fan is quite loud & I cant sleep with it on all night. It was easy to set up & I got it on sale for a great price.Good bargin.

The pros: great price for the specs. I couldn't find anything better - not only for the power but this unit also can be used as a dehumidifier. The unit worked well and pumped out cold air at a good pace. The area immediately around the unit was a little warmer than the surrounding air. Biggest complaint was that the window slider to fit in the window for the hot air release didn't fit my standard window. I had to use a hacksaw to cut it down to the proper size and have the slots fit.

Purchased this since living in a 4th floor apartment the height makes window units a bit difficult to install and should have done more research. The unit is about as loud as the noise machine I would have on and the fan is really nice to get a breeze going. The included remote is very handy and the casters make moving this unit from space to space easier. But - The window kit that came with this was partially useless to me. The elongated window panel was too long to install into my window but the original panel only partially filled the window so now I have a hole in window side that I have to secure with plastic and tape. Insignia really needs to include a smaller additional piece for this. The unit takes up a decent amount of space but does a good job of cooling a decent sized area. The real issue is the negative pressure that it creates. There are immediate drafts from everywhere including the windows and doors. This forces hot air into the JUST cooled area to then circulate, be sucked up and then forced back outside only to potentially get sucked back into the room. The air also feels stale, after a while and the entire process while claiming to be energy efficient really isn't. If you need an AC unit get a window unit and try to make that work first. If you HAVE to get a portable air conditioner - get a dual hose. I would have returned this and purchased a unit that fit my needs but Best Buy's not so generous return policy has passed (kept it for more than 15 days) and I also threw out the box.

Ok my bedroom is hit by direct sunlight during the day & is the one room in the house that doesn't get AC. So I bought this thinking it would just be "OK". Well, I'm surprised at how nicely built and quiet it is... although you do get the occasional noise from the condenser kicking in. Otherwise it really makes it cold in here. So far so good.... The instructions were about worthless but it was easy enough to figure out. I had to physically CUT one part of the window insert which I did not feel comfortable doing. But there was no other way to make it fit in my standard sized windows (wth). I wonder how it will fit if I transfer it to another room.... Oh and don't be surprised, this thing is about the size of R2D2.

This unit proved sufficient for supplemental cooling in my home this summer so far. It's moveable and comes with an ample amount of cord and exhaust tubing. It has been extremely humid so YOU MUST ATTACH A DRAIN TUBE TO RELEASE THE WATER COLLECTION. I've read reviews that it's not necessary but it absolutely IS NECESSARY. It won't run efficiently if you don't allow the water to drain. I run it for at least 8 hours a day and it does very well. Definitely download the manual and Print out to refer to. I've had no problems so far with it.

Had this for a month now and it keeps small house cool. Rarely had it on high fan speed as low or medium works well enough. My only complaint is the exhaust hose piece that goes in your window is poorly designed. I have to tape it in the window because the plate is not wide enough for my 30" window after having to cut out for the exhaust piece. I am working on a better way to do it.

A wonderfully inexpensive way to cool down in the Summer. The installation was fairly easy. The window I used was smaller than the smallest adjustment I could make to the window insert so I needed to cut the insert down. Easy with any moderately sharp saw or new sharp razor-edged blade. They don't tell you that if you have one of the new Energy Star replacement windows you may need to raise the window insert perhaps an inch. Because I had plenty of extra insert I was able to set one on another and the unit now looks like a perfectly planned custom insert but a small (say 1x2) piece of wood would also have worked. The unit quickly cooled down my parlor which is perhaps 33% south facing glass windows. So it should work in most other applications. It is quiet enough so that it should not bother most sleepers.

My master bedroom and adjoining master bath get cooled down quickly. I have separate dehumidifiers I use to assist it. If its under 85 degrees out; it will cool down the other two bedrooms on my upper level. Total upstairs square footage is about 650 sq ft. Can not watch tv in bed with it on since it is loud. What swayed me to buy it were the quick responses to my questions from: Insignia, Best Buy and other purchasers. Glad I got it on sale. From all my research on portable a/c units and personal experiences; if the retail price is ABOVE $300; it will have few issues and work better. Definitely Recommend this unit!

Purchased to cool a bedroom area for my son who works nights and has to sleep during hot, muggy Portland summers. It does a great job and could easily cool a room 3 times the size. You do need to drain water from it every so often (once a month or so) if you use it in a high humidity area. The unit itself is rather large and does take up a decent amount of space. Comes with everything you need to get up and running including the window mount. The BB description says it's not included but it is in fact in the box. Overall 5 stars for this and time will tell how long it lasts since it's only used for 3 or 4 months a year.

The Insignia portable AC unit is an easy way to cool down rooms with no AC or rooms that aren't getting sufficient cooling from the main house AC. It moves easily on the wheels to anywhere in the house and needs a window to exhaust hot air. The AC unit has easy to use adapters and components to set it up in a window via flexible exhaust hose . It has a remote to control for ease of use and does a great job of cooling down spaces. A Good product for a good price. I've enjoyed cooler spaces in my house thanks to the Insignia portable AC

Finally was able to test this out last weekend. Heat wave got us turning on this machine and I got really surprised. This bad boy was able to cool down our big bedroom. Its not that chilly but I couldn't tell if it was heatwave. Why only 4 stars? because it was really really loud. I love white noise but this one is really loud that it wakes me up sometimes in the middle of the night.
