The Insignia NS-APLWH2 is a 497 ft2 HEPA air purifier designed to handle large sized. This is a plug and play device without any apps or device connections needed. Design The design of the unit is pretty nice to be honest. Its big was my first thought when I pulled it out of the box. It clocks in at 25 x 12 x 12 inches and weighs 18lbs. The top of the unit is a slatted surface that allows fresh air to pass through. The front of the body has a nice LED display. The bottom half of the front has a perforation pattern that looks pixelated as you move upwards – gives it a cool and modern look. On either side is a small hand hold for moving the unit around. The backside has a similar pixelated perforation pattern but also functions as the access door to replace the filter. The filter is a cylindrical HEPA filter with activated carbon. Before first use the only thing you really have to do is remove the plastic bag the is around the filter and put it back inside the machine. Close up the hatch after the filter is in and it is ready to power on. The top of the machine has 5 touch sensitive buttons. Power, auto mode, timed mode, fan speed, and filter reset. The auto button also doubles as a child lock if you press and hold it for 3 seconds. The front face of the unit has an admittedly nice looking LED display. The number displayed is the current air particulate reading (PM 2.5 readings in this case). light at the top. This light strips above and below the number indicates indoor air quality. Green – great, yellow – okay, orange – bad, and red – hazardous. My light has been consistently green this entire time. The highest number I saw was in the mid 50’s and that was right after initial startup when it was still clearing itself out a bit. Since then the particulate count has hovered around 2-10 consistently. If I happen to vacuum or leave the door open to the outside I can see the numbers jump up in real time. Care and Maintenance Maintenance of the unit is pretty straightforward. The filter life is rated at 3 months, but that is dependent on your air quality. The filter reset button will flash blue when its time to replace the filter. The filter is available to purchase on Best Buy’s website at the time of this review (Model NS-APFL2), so that’s nice to see. When its time to replace the filter the manual tells you to wipe the inside out with a damp cloth and clean away any trapped dust. Once the filter is replaced you close everything back up and press the filter button for 5s to reset it. Performance and Usage Using the purifier is pretty easy. You can set it to Auto and just walk away if you want to. The unit will run at whatever level is necessary to keep the air particulate count down. You can schedule a timer to run as well if only need it to run for a few hours while you are home, or something. You have options of 1, 2, 4, 8, and 12 hours. Or you can set it to manual and control the fan speed itself. On the highest setting it is really moving some air around. It still doesn’t get very loud, so you can have it right next to your couch while watching TV and it won’t be noticeable. Performance wise it does a really good job of knocking down a lot of floating bits in my air. I have a husky so I am used to seeing floof floating through the air in my house. Since dropping this unit into my living room I have noticed a drop in the amount of floating dog fluff. Time will tell how well it does at keeping dust levels down, but so far it appears to help one of my kids who has seasonal allergies. There was a lot of leaf raking/blowing this last week which usually makes him miserable due to the dust. This year was not as bad. This could be a placebo effect or a real outcome of using the filter. Overall This Insignia unit has a sleek looking design that should look good in most settings. The filtering seems powerful while the fan stays fairly quiet. I’m impressed with it after this first week. It has done a nice job so far.

May be good for small dust particles, but not useful for larger airborne dirt and dust brought in by giant dogs. Does not create sufficient air flow to catch and trap particulate that isn't very close to the unit. Otherwise, controls are simple and unit is light enough to move easily. Also very quiet at lower fan speeds.

The Insignia Large Room Air Purifier is designed for rooms up to 497 square feet and it seems to be very capable of at least that. We have one other large room air purifier in our home which only has 3 fan speeds while the Insignia model has four. I really appreciate the flexibility that the four speeds offer. While speed 3 is still noticeably audible it is still quieter than our other air purifier on speed 3. The Insignia air purifier is a sleek modern looking air purifier with a nice display on the front of it and a color-coded air quality indicator lines above and below the round numerical readout. The air quality indicator lines change colors with green being great air quality, yellow being okay air quality, orange being bad air quality and red hazardous. Strangely it tells you to move the air purifier if it indicates red hazardous air quality. My thoughts about that are that if the air quality indicator is accurate and your filter is clean you may want to do some testing of your home’s air for different pollutants. However, I have noticed if dust accumulates on the filter of my other air purifier it will indicate orange until I clean it. However, it has never turned red. My wife and I both vape so I tested the Insignia air purifier by blowing out some vape in the air near it and it immediately was sucked up by the purifier and vanished from the air. Therefore, I would say that this Insignia Large Room Air Purifier definitely works well and that was only on speed three. Speed four sounds very powerful but is also quite loud and I found speed 3 does a satisfactory job for our needs. While the Insignia air purifier is not connected to the internet and does not have an app like our other one it does have a timer you can set so that it automatically turns off for anywhere from one to twelve hours later. It also has a child lock feature but we will not be using any of those two features since I like leaving our air purifiers on all the time and our only child is a dog child. The lack of WI-FI and an app does not bother me since this Insignia brand air purifier is about half the price of our other one and does its job of purifying the air just as well as our other model of a different brand. If you need an air purifier for a room up to basically 500 square feet this Insignia model is a great buy and is priced very reasonably especially if you catch it on sale like it is now for $60 off at $189.99. If you need a good large room air purifier I doubt you can do better than this Insignia model for the price. I would definitely recommend it!

I’m in a location that suffers from smoke due to forest fires a lot and have allergies, so originally got a smaller air purifier which yielded good results, to my surprise. Since I was impressed with the small one, got a larger Insignia Air Purifier for the living room. This air purifier very easy to operate, is a good choice for improving your indoor air quality and avoiding health issues that come from indoor air pollution. When I first opened the box really liked the design of unit since it matches with the décor, has handles on the sides to easily move it and came with detailed instructions. The big display in front is convenient which shows current air quality by color indication (Green = good, Orange = bad), plus filter life. Unit is designed for rooms as large as 497 sq. ft. The HEPA-certified filter removes allergens, mold, dust, pet dander, smoke and pollen that captures 99% of particle pollution in the air, removing irritants and improving visibility. You have an option of 4 fan speed modes to select how quickly air is purified and a timer up to 12 hours. There is also a child lock feature that prevents accidental setting changes. While in auto mode it detects air quality and sets fan speed according to how bad it is, so no kind of complicated method to operate it. Just turn it on and let it run, also the optional timer that shuts off automatically is nice too. The device would detect smoke & odor then run the fan at higher speeds which got rid of both in around 20 minutes. I also notice that my allergies have decreased along with dust accumulating on the furniture in the living room. This air purifier is good all-around with it being simple and works well with cleaning indoor air. I should have bought one these years ago.

TLDR: An excellent choice for HEPA air purification in a large room. Priced competitively for its performance. Has PM2.5 detection and auto adjusts fan speeds accordingly. Runs quiet at most settings, with the exception of the fast and fastest settings. Provides a nice display to show overall air quality and PM levels. Has child lock for the little ones. It is a tall, yet relatively thin rectangular shaped unit with handles on side for easy transport. Doesn’t have any wifi/smart home capabilities, if that’s important to you. Replacement filters should be readily available thru Best Buy when the unit signals for a filter change. No tools required to replace filter. The overall mechanical design is no different than most other units on the market; air intakes on the lower panels (front and back) and exhaust on the top. The lower 60% of the unit houses the cylindrical air filter, which is a combination of the pre-filter, charcoal filter and HEPA air filter in one package. Nice. No need to manage them separately. With a filter like that, the benefits are the removal of allergen, mold, dust pet dander, smoke and pollen (via HEPA filter) and the removal of odors from chemicals like ammonia, formaldehyde and nicotine (via carbon filter). The pre-filter picks up all the big nasty stuff that you can see with your own eyes. Finally, the upper 40% houses the fan. The control buttons sit atop of the unit and are capacitive touch, meaning there is no mechanical push or click, but just a simple touch much like on your cell phone screen. I like this because it’s easily cleaned with a little solution and won’t ruin the internal electronics. You get fairly simple controls such as an Auto button, timer button, fan speed button, a filter replace reset button, and of course the on/off button. Each press will emit a beep from the unit. You can child lock and unlock the unit by holding the Auto button for more than 3 seconds until the child lock indicator toggles indicator state. To reset the filter replacement light, you need to hold the filter replace button for 5 seconds. This prevents any unintended resets of the filter replacement light. Overall, I’m very happy with the Insignia Large Room Air Purifier. With its performance rated up to 497sq ft, it is a nice complement to my dining room and living room space. I have it running in automatic setting, and with the child lock on (well, because of the kids). For the most part, I will run it like this and go about my daily routine, not having to worry about it. Set it and forget it, right? I only turned up the fan full blast for its initial 24 hour debut, but I will do the same when there is a little smoke coming from the kitchen stove. Otherwise, I enjoy the day knowing my air is being monitored and cleaned.

The Insignia purifier is a HEPA air purifier that’s capable of cleaning a large size room of 497 square feet. The purifier removes common allergens including mold, dust, pet dander, pollen, tobacco smoke and other large irritants. All the things that make you sneeze and you don’t want to breathe in! The design of the Insignia purifier is clean and simple, but nice looking as well. The large display has a easy to see visual indicator of the air quality. Simply look at the row of dots going across the top (green is good, yellow is okay, orange is bad, and red is hazardous). In the middle of the display is a large digital display showing the number of particles < or = 2.5 micrometer in diameter. I can see this display when I’m seated 10’ away. I have this setup in my home office in the basement of my home. I also have another purifier with all the bells and whistles that costs 4 times as much as the Insignia sitting next to it as the benchmark. I have the Insignia set on “Auto”, this will control the fan speed based on the air quality. To test the air purifier, I used my air brush to paint my model for a few minutes. The paint is acrylic and not much odors, to me anyway. After a few minutes, both air purifiers detected the odors and sprung to action. The Insignia purifier went from the normal 10 particles to 50, the green row of dots turned yellow and the normally whisper quiet fan is now moving at a faster speed that’s more audible. As far as noise and fan speed, on speed 4, the fastest speed, it’s fairly loud. Loud enough where you probably can’t watch TV at the same time if it’s in the same room. This seems normal though, if I set the other purifier to speed 4, it’s fairly loud as well. I also like that the Insignia purifier blows the air up instead of at you like a fan. I have a friend that has this older air purifier that blows it out forward, I walked into his apartment and this cold air was blowing at me, I than realized it was his air purifier. Not so comfortable in the winter months. After using this Insignia air purifier in my home office for 4-5 days, I feel like I can trust it to detect pollutants and clean the air as well as the pricier purifier. It just doesn’t have some features such as an app to control it or eliminate germs. After reviewing this purifier, I will most likely purchase another one for my family member. She’s in her 70’s, so the easy to understand buttons and “Auto” mode are a welcome feature. Replacement filters costs $60 (on sale for $45), which seems reasonable. The purifier itself is priced reasonably at $250 ($190 sale price).

As a WTC first responder, with 20 years of respiratory issues since, clean air is very important to me. We have two long haired dogs as well, which only complicates matters. So, that said, I feel like I'm a good candidate to judge air cleaners based on my conditions and living situation. We have a modest townhouse, with 4 adults, and 2 long haired dogs. There is constant movement in the house, in and out, here and there, etc. So dust from outside, dust from inside, and the dog hair/dander is quite a bit and I vacuum often to get it all under control. This air cleaner has some interesting features for the price point. First let me say the filter (of which you need to remove the bag before using) is behind a door that you remove to clean/replace the filter. The door has a little viewing window on it, so you can see the filter from the outside of the door. I vacuum my filter often, with a high power vacuum, to extend the life and usefulness of the filter. This seems to help with air cleaners in general. Air is drawn in, the cylindrical filter does its job and clean air comes out of the top. Pretty straightforward design. The filter is meaty, it isn't some thin piece of junk. It is big, unexpectedly big, and heavy for what it is. That is a good thing because it means it is built to work well and last! The unit itself has a decent control panel to let you select things ike auto-mode, speed override if desired, and a timer function to turn off after a set number of hours. That is your decision on if you want the timer or not. Plus there is a sleep speed setting. Most impressive is the air quality monitor and display. Awesome!. Green for good, yellow for not so good, and red for bad. Plus it has a number for the 2.5 level which is the smaller particles of dust/dirt floating around. The display looks like an OLED; it is sharp and crisp! I've been using this in my kitchen, and it has removed all cooking odors in a short period of time. The CADR rating is impressive, at over 300 with an effective room size of nearly 500 square feet. Bravo, this is a nice first floor unit at a decent price. For those who are Insignia brand fans, like me, you'll realize this meets the expectations of the products you have come to rely on for quality and overall value. Oh yes, sorry, the unit is like 12x12 (width and depth) with a height of 22". That is a nice sized unit without being overly large.

Insignia™ - 497 Sq. Ft. HEPA Air Purifier - White The Insignia Large Room Air Purifier is very easy to use. The set up was very easy, just remove plastic from unit, filter and plug. Then remove tape from around the removable door. Plug it in and select the setting you would like and let it do the work. I have it set to Auto and the filtration runs on the lowest setting and is very quiet. If I change the setting to #4 it runs much noisier. The air readings stay in the green and around 8-14 in numbers. The difference in the air quality is noticeable. It seems fresher and not as dry smelling. I would give this unit 5 stars even though the noise is louder on higher settings. I would recommend it to others.

AMAZINGG. i love that it has a screen to tell you exact numbers because i have panic disorder and can overthink things if i dont have exact factual reassurance. Love this thing so much!! Its super quiet i dont even hear it tbh. The only time i hear it is if it goes up to the highest level but its never for too long anyway. and that rarely happens its always on the lower levels. Its super sleek looking and is easy to fit in anywhere. Its also one of the best for this price point tbh. And you get it from a trusted brand. I'd say if youre on a budget like me, this is the best bang for your buck on air purifiers.

We have only had this for a few weeks so here are my impressions so far...... My boyfriend purchased this because for some reason, his teen asthma has resurfaced in his 30's. I think we have mold in our house and it gets better and worse depending on the weather. We live in the Lowcountry SC and it is VERY humid here. Lately, he has been having issues sleeping and breathing in general. I told him if he didn't leave his clothes all over the floor on his side of the bed, it may help - he didn't believe it. LOL It may be that we have rabbits and cats and were fostering some kittens. I think they were just stirring everything up. We have this literally in the space between the wall and his side of the bed. It is SUPER quiet. It has a bright digital display on the front which I put a post it note over since it faces a mirrored door on an armoire and it is very bright at night. If you push the post it tight, you can read the numbers through it if you'd like. We have noticed the numbers increasing and decreasing depending on what we are doing. It goes up when we are cooking, and other activities. What exactly are these numbers? Particles? The manual doesn't explain very clearly. He seems to be doing better - but we also have adopted out the kittens. I suppose it works - but how are we to really know with any of these things if they really do something or we are just paying for a tall air circulation box? I am pretty sure it removes stuff - I guess I have to believe the numbers on the front. Bottom line - attractive, quiet, seems to do something. Would have liked a better explanation of function or better instruction manual, but that seems to be the norm these days - minimal information.

I was expecting a long drawn out process in getting this air purifier up and running, but I quickly found that it's really a plug and play style...super simple. I really don't have any complaints with this purifier. The two main things I need from an air purifier, this one has which are auto adjust and child lock. With the auto adjust it automatically detects the air quality of the room its in and increases/decreases fan speed accordingly. This is helpful that I don't have to remember to turn it on or up, plus I definitely know it's working because it turns on every time I cook on my gas stove. It is absolutely perfect in size for a living room as it is a slender rectangular shape; it's just big enough to know it's making a difference in the air, but not too overwhelming for the room. Plus, as far as good air purifiers go, this one is affordable, requires no tools for filter replacement, and is safe for a house with little kids (child lock works along with all the other features).

So far this purifier has been running smoothly and working hard. We have 2 cats, high pollen and dust in our environments. I love that it frequently will calibrate to assess new dust and allergen levels, and it will increase the speed based on the dust level. I fully was expecting this machine to have a high performance, especially for the price, the HEPA filter is well built, easy to replace and clean.
