Solid 5.1.2 ch soundbar system. Totally different enjoyment for watching movie or play games. Worth for its value.

I hate the auto off/power saving "feature" that cannot be disabled - If I don't have something constantly on, it shuts off and I have to restart it. It is a nuisance. Also had to unplug the sub-woofer a few times (and subsequently the rear speakers) because turning down the bass wasn't resolving that it was causing way too much vibration. Not sound/special effects; vibration that rattles windows even when it isn't a gun battle or something I would expect - I'll be buying something else and relegating this guy to the the basement TV. It's not a starter, it's a second string sound bar.

Decent not strong enough. Lacks equaliser and limited options. Would have loved some basic customisation options. The LED never goes off when it’s on

Sunds really good but the leveling of the audio when using the bluetooth isn't great, sounds like the voices are drowning in bass and synth

I’ve been testing this Insignia soundbar for 2 weeks now, and I must say that I really enjoy this one. The front stage does most of the heavy lifting, and it handles it well. With all the media I’ve watched, the dialogue stays clear, music has heft, and there is some noticeable height when Atmos is on. It’s not the full sound bubble as most Dolby Atmos systems purport, but it does a really good job for my smaller room. There are no up-firing speakers in the rear channels, but there is lift in the front channels. Also, since the rear speakers don’t have height drivers, the surround stays more horizontal than vertical, but it’s still immersive enough to pull you into the movie depending on how you have the room set. Where this soundbar really surprised me is DTS:X. I don’t know if it’s the codec or just the way the tuning is done, but this thing hits harder with DTS:X mixes than Atmos. One of my reference test movies is “Bad Boys for Life” on 4K Blu-ray (an IMAX Enhanced disc), and with DTS:X on everything, it just feels fuller and more robust. The two particular scenes are in the opening scene with the Meek Mill song playing as they raced to the hospital, and the final scene with Martin Lawrence shooting the glass roof, dropping shards at the bad guys. It all surrounds you in a way that feels more natural and super immersive. My room setup is about 10x13 with 10-foot ceilings, and the sound filled it without needing to crank volume up. I had it at 24 to have a good time. The setup was very simple: no pairing issues, no hidden settings menu, just plug in, adjust levels, and done. The only real drawback was the connection options. There’s only HDMI OUT, no HDMI IN, AUX IN, and Power input. So make sure your TV has at least 3 HDMI ports if you’re running a game console, cable box, or streaming device. It’s not a dealbreaker, just something to know before you buy. Aesthetically, the soundbar is just decent. Solid grill on the front sound bar with a mesh fabric concealing the up-firing speakers. The buttons on top are oversized, which at first looked a little goofy, but honestly, it makes them easy to see and use if you’re older or lose your remote at night. One of the main downsides is that the LED indicator light on the front does not turn off. Well, I do appreciate it for notifying you of your current setting and input; it would be great if you could reduce the brightness because it could be distracting while watching a movie. All in all, it’s not trying to compete with a $1,000 system, but for what it is and what it costs, it is actually commendable. Clear sound, strong DTS:X performance, simple setup, and respectable presence in the room. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option, I would definitely recommend it. 4.25/5

Insignia is Best Buy’s brand is often associated as “budget,” which can be thought of as “cheap.” I’ve owned Insignia products in the past and found them to be pretty reliable. I think the better descriptor is great value. So far, I’ve been pretty impressed with the Insignia 5.1.2 soundbar. The setup is dead simple - although I have a few qualms with hiding wires - and the sound is a terrific upgrade from a TV’s speakers. IN THE BOX As you can see in the photos, inside the box is the soundbar (which is about 40 inches long) a subwoofer, which is about 17 inches high and 8 inches in width, two smaller satellite (rear speakers) which are pretty tiny (about 3-4 inches tall and 6 inches wide), 4 power cables (one for each item), a remote, and wall mounting hardware. One small omission, I didn’t see AAA batteries for the remote in the box. SETUP You have several options to connect your soundbar to your source. There’s HDMI, which requires eARC on your TV (most newer TVs support it), optical audio, and a headphone jack. There’s not multiple HDMI ports like you’d find in a receiver. So if you had a gaming system or HDMI stick you wanted to watch/play from, you’d need to plug that into the TV itself and not the soundbar. I have a small room with a projector, and the projector doesn’t support eARC HDMI, so I had to take the auxiliary route. Setup is dead simple, so long as you have nearby power outlets. Each device, as you would expect, requires to be plugged in. And for the most part, they’ll be plugged in at different spots in the room. So you will need to keep in mind what outlets you have as you’ll likely be using 4 separate outlets. Of course, you can always utilize extension cords where needed, just something to keep in mind. The three of the power cords are the same, the plug that goes into the speaker is bent, while the 4th is straight. The straight one goes into the soundbar while the others go into the other speakers. Set up is truly as easy as plugging everything in. There’s a pair button on the back of the satellite speakers (the only button on the back) but I didn’t need to push it. Once I had everything plugged in and turned on the soundbar, everything just worked. No pairing needed. Really, it doesn’t get any easier than that. Of course, if you were to mount any of the speakers - which you’ll likely want to - that will complicate the installation but that’s something you’d have to do with any soundbar. There is an installation template that you can use to help place the screws on the wall to mount the soundbar. SOUND QUALITY I have to mention that this is a Dolby Atmos soundbar with satellite speakers. Atmos gives you some terrific surround sound with a minimal number of speakers. That’s because there’s additional speakers in the soundbar itself that fires sound upwards and to the sides that bounce off the wall, mimicking surround. I should note that not all TV shows or sports have Dolby Atmos, is typically (at least in my experience) reserved for movies. I found the audio to be extremely crisp and clear. The sound quality is really well balanced and there’s depth. Characters further away on screen sound further away and vice versa. It really filled the room especially with background scores playing but again, the dialogue would come through really clear and understandable. The bass is pretty good, it’s rich and punchy but could resonate a little deeper. Explosions and gunfire however, sounded pretty darn good. I could hear bullets whizzing behind me in war scenes which really helps create an immersive effect. Again, my room is a medium to small sized room. I thought the audio was plenty loud, balanced and clear. It was a pretty immersive experience watching football as well as movies. It absolutely beats the socks off any TV speaker, but if you have a larger room you might want to consider a more powerful option. CONCLUSION Surround setups can get extremely complicated and extremely expensive. This Insignia model is a terrific value. It looks very streamlined and professional. The build quality is great and the setup is dead simple. The only minor downside is the need for 4 separate plug outlets and extra work needed to hide power cables when mounting on the walls (if you so choose).

I recently purchased the Insignia 5.1.2 Channel Home Theater Soundbar with wireless subwoofer and rear speakers, and I’m honestly very impressed with the performance for the price. The setup was straightforward, and everything connected quickly to my TV using HDMI ARC. The biggest difference is the surround sound experience. The rear speakers and subwoofer really make movies feel more immersive, and the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support adds depth that you don’t get from a regular soundbar. Action scenes, music, and even sports sound much fuller compared to the built-in TV speakers. Dialogue is clear, and the subwoofer adds solid bass without being overwhelming. I also like that it has Bluetooth, so I can easily play music from my phone when I’m not watching TV. Overall, this system is a great value for a full 5.1.2 setup. If you want a true home theater feel without spending a fortune, this soundbar is definitely worth considering.

I recently purchased the Insignia 5.1.2 Channel Home Theater Soundbar from Best Buy and wanted to share my feedback on the system. Given its price point, it is an exceptional value that outperforms many 2.1 and 5.1 alternatives in the same category. The sound quality is impressive, featuring rich, immersive audio supported by a wireless subwoofer that provides significant depth to both films and music. With 5.1.2 channels and support for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, the system delivers a genuine surround sound experience suitable for movies and gaming. The setup process is straightforward, requiring only a power supply and minimal cabling without the need for a complex receiver. The wireless connectivity for the subwoofer and rear speakers allows for flexible placement while maintaining a clean aesthetic. Overall, this system offers excellent performance for its cost and is a highly recommended upgrade from standard television speakers or entry-level soundbars.

I got the sound bar system on sale for under $150 bucks. I wasnt expecting much, but figured for the price it would be an upgrade over the standard tv speakers. I will start by saying I have never had an easier quicker experience setting up a surround sound system. It took about 10 minutes. Everything connected easily. Compared to Vizio and the hisense soundbar systems the Insignia was by far the easiest of them to hook up and experience immediate results. Now lets get to the sound. After turning on, I was blown away by the sound. It sounded better then my old 5.1 receiver and speaker system and also better than my more expensive vizio system. The sound is is clear voices are clear and the rear speakers really add to the system. They are not quiet by any means. The sub woofer really packs a punch and I can hear the rumble throughout the house. If you are looking to upgrade your home theatre system on a budget i highly recommend this system.

I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to electronics and this item was very frustrating to pair. The item is in my dining room attached to an 86 inch LED TV. The soundbar is connected via HDMI. My subwoofer is about 8 feet away from the soundbar and the satellites were about 10 feet away with no obstruction between the soundbar and the satellites and sub. For the first 45 minutes it would not pair! I followed the manual verbatim and waited at least 4 minutes in-between pairing attempts and I must have selected "RESET" about ten times. Right when I was ready to pack it back up and return it, I read one of the reviews here from someone who had the same problem and was given advice from Insignia support. I actually had to have my wife help me with this 1. I turned ALL units off ( unplugged the outlet from the soundbar, sub, and satellites). 2. I turned on the power outlet for the sub and satellites and then my wife and I pressed and held the pairing buttons for them until they started to blink. **YOU NEED TO HOLD THE PAIRING BUTTON DOWN FOR THE SUB AND SATELLITE SPEAKERS AT THE SAME TIME. 3. I turned on the soundbar then pressed the pairing button until the soundbar displayed "PAIRING". 4. The system finally paired, lol. After turning off my TV and turning it back on for the past couple of days, the system has remained paired. SOUND Although it says it's a 5 channel system, the satellites aren't really isolated. I turned up the volume on the satellites to their max and played a YouTube video "Testing your surround sound system" in which the video would purposely play a sound through each separate speaker. The soundbar played the "front left/center/front right" clearly. When it played the "rear left/rear right" the sounds came from all of the speakers instead of each separate satellite. (I have a 7 channel Klipsch system in my theater room and when the same YouTube video was played, it was able to isolate the sound from each of my speakers accordingly.) Is that a dealbreaker for me? No, I am keeping the Insignia because for my purposes, I did not expect true surround/Atmos sound. I just wanted to upgrade the volume that my TV puts out and the sub and surround was a "bonus". If it wasn't for the pairing frustration, I would have given it a higher rating. The rating is based on the friendly price due to the fact that you get 2 satellites and a subwoofer and the sound quality/volume is good coming out of the soundbar.

Excellent Sound for the Price This Insignia surround sound system exceeded our expectations. The audio is crisp with great bass, and dialogue is much clearer than our TV’s built-in speakers. Setup was straightforward, and the system paired with our TV without any issues. It’s a big upgrade for movie nights and everyday viewing. Highly recommend if you want great sound without spending a fortune. Best part is all wireless and Bluetooth. Just hooked the hdmi to the tv and all speakers paired in seconds

I got this on sale for Black Friday. For a surround sound 5.1 setup, the price is really good. You won’t find that kind of a price from a trustworthy brand anywhere. I had an Insignia sound bar in a prior home with just the bar and subwoofer and it was pretty good, just had to leave it behind while moving. This setup is definitely even an upgrade over my previous one, so I trust Insignia brand audio products. This particular speaker I heard is manufactured by the same parts distributor as Hisense, so you’re not getting anything knockoff. Now as for the speakers themselves, they are very good quality. The subwoofer is boomy (depending on the content you’re watching). I find it to be maybe not as loud as some other setups I’ve heard but I feel it also prioritizes lower notes over the midtones which I like particularly with this subwoofer. It makes it more cinematic and less bee-buzzy sounding like others. The soundbar itself is great quality and very clear and crisp. Dialogue is so much easier to hear now in movies that I can turn of subtitles. Now, the magic with this one is obviously the rear speakers which make it 5.1 surround sound. These aren’t necessarily the most high quality part of the setup; definitely what makes the package cheaper. But they don’t ruin the experience. If you put your ear to them, you notice the audio quality is a lot lower from them. More buzzy and static, and very little bass coming from them. They’re small so that is understandable. Very noticeable if you put your ear to them, but you’re not going to do that. In a regular listening position, the front speakers make up most of the sound and the rears complement that so they’re less noticeable and actually fill out to a very rounded out audio experience. The one con is sometimes if music is playing loud enough on the rears you can hear some of the staticiness from them but not extremely noticeable. If you’re an audiophile you may notice more. When watching actual surround sound content the whole setup works really well. I don’t have much experience with other surround sound setups but to an average listener it sounds really cool. The rear speakers are the weakest link but in the full audio experience they complement well and don’t detract too much. If this is something you’d notice or be picky about I’d recommend a setup with bigger more quality rear speakers because I doubt these are upgradeable. Another con is that since this setup is cheaper, it doesn’t have an HDMI passthrough port. So, one issue with this was what audio formats your TV supports. I first tried this on a 2016 or so Samsung TV and it supports Dolby Digital but not Atmos, so when plugged into that TV you can NOT use Atmos content, just regular 5.1 surround if it supports it. I’ll be honest, I can’t tell the difference too much. I know Atmos implies directional sound up and down and I guess I haven’t listened to much content that actually uses that. But another con is that if a device ONLY supports Atmos surround and your TV only supports Dolby Digital, you will get no surround sound at all. Particularly when using a Windows PC or gaming console (my Fire TV worked with surround sound just fine). So if you want an HDMI passthrough, you can plug your PC into the sound bar directly and get surround sound while also still getting it to show up on the TV. If your TV supports Atmos or you use another port like analog or optical this doesn’t matter all too much. And I upgraded my TV shortly after so it’s not an issue anymore. So overall, if you want an amazing upgrade from TV speakers and are interested in surround sound, this is a very good starting point and you don’t need much more if you’re not picky about the rear speakers. The overall sound is great, the subwoofer is very low and powerful, and the surround sound experience is still really great for me; you can noticeably get sound from all sides of the room. I’d totally recommend especially on sale because you won’t get surround of this caliber at this price from anywhere else.

If you're an audiophile, I'm sure you can give a whole host of reasons why this unit isn't great. I'm also sure that if I was willing to spend a whole lot more money that I could get something that provides a better experience. However, in the sub-$500 price range, I just have a hard time believing it's worth paying more than the $140 I paid for these while they were on sale. The base is boomy, voice and dialogue comes through clearly, and it was as easy as plugging everything in to get it working. For a basic home surround sound setup, I'm really happy. Completely transforms the living room movie experience. Would buy again for another room if I had the need.

Got this on sale and i am blown away at what a small subwoofer can do to change up the vibe of your movie game! The sound bar gives you a good head on premium sound and the small speakers don’t make a whole lot of sound, but i honestly prefer that because they add to ambience rather than just emitting straight sound of what you already here coming from the soundbar. Good for small tv setups and the quality of the whole package feels sleek and designed well.

I’m extremely impressed with this Insignia 5.1.2 soundbar system—especially for the price. Setup was straightforward, and the wireless subwoofer and rear speakers paired quickly with no issues. Within minutes, I had a full surround sound experience that completely transformed my living room. The Dolby Atmos and DTS:X performance is excellent. The upward-firing speakers add noticeable height and immersion, particularly when watching movies or streaming shows with Atmos support. Explosions, dialogue, and ambient sounds are well balanced, and the subwoofer delivers deep, clean bass without overpowering the room. Bluetooth connectivity works flawlessly, and switching between TV, streaming apps, and music is seamless. Dialogue remains clear even at lower volumes, which is something I really appreciate during late-night viewing. For anyone looking for a true surround sound system without paying premium-brand prices, this is a fantastic value. Insignia really exceeded my expectations with this one. Highly recommended.

This is a great surround sound for the price. Easy to set up. Makes watching movies extra fun with sound effects bouncing around the room. The first movie we watched after we connected it was 1917 and it was amazing!! So much different than watching it without the sound bar.

Picked up open box (excellent condition) about 2 months ago and was pleased with the condition and nothing missing from the packaging. Set up was easy, rear speaker and sub placement was not an issue. During testing I was blown away by the amount of bass from the sub. Rear speaker volume is decent. Have read some comments about a possible auto shut-off or eco mode that cuts the sound during quiet scenes or when playing music. Right off the bat I tried holding the power and volume down buttons for a few seconds (found this solution by searching online), and have not had any problems with the sound cutting out or being delayed. For the price I am happy with this soundbar, so much so that I may pick up another one.
