Passable, but there's better at this price too.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had far more than my share of TV's. That's because I have standards. Merely turning on and not crapping out within a few months of the warranty isn't enough for me. I know, nothings made to last anymore. Pretty common knowledge for those living in the real world. However there are some that are simply better than others. Enter Insignia's line of TV's. I have absolutely nothing against them, my bedroom TV is an Insignia and it's plenty worth it. Yet odds are if you're getting a TV this size either it's going to be you're primary TV or one with something for you to brag about. This would be ok if you got it on Black Friday for dirt cheap or for someone just starting out with the bare bones of pretty much everything. It's not that I have anything remotely bad to say about any Insignia TV, believe me if I did I'd come right out and say it, no, it's that for roughly the same price point (within $20 more or less) there's TV's every bit as good as this. Some are roughly the same overall quality, but just give you more, like more inputs for example, others like say Westinghouse are a less reputable brand currently, but are also $30 cheaper for the same size and you really have a 50-50 shot at getting a good one from them. Get it? It all balances out in the end. Sure if you want the best out there there's way better, but those also come with a way higher price tag. Check Samsung & LG models for yourself. Also, the thing glossed over about big brands is, you only get the best from them IF you're buying a flagship (expensive in short) model and their entry-level (cheaper) models are roughly the same quality as any other, they just coincidentally sport their famous logo and charge an average of $100 more. Currently TCL & Hisense are where it's at for the best bang for the buck in a budget smart TV. Even a basic TCL Series 4 at roughly the same price has better offerings than this. While I say I don't recommend this please view it as, if you're out shopping for a new TV, I don't recommend this. At the same time, existing owners are probably plenty content with what they have. Got it for Xmas or your birthday? Maybe a graduation gift? Perhaps you had a Best Buy gift card and it was simply the cheapest readily available? Their not terrible, just nothing I'd brag about is all.

It's worth it if it's all you can afford.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can't be mad at this TV, like with virtually all other Insignia TV's they clearly tried and have created an all around reasonable final product. However at the same time there are better TV's for only around $30-$50 more (in a 50 inch for fair comparison) and those really offer a much better TV for only a little more money. So if you can spare an extra $30-$50 (roughly) go for a brand such as LG (for example) and it'll surely be far better and in this comparison only $50 more. However at the same time this Insignia, like with most of Best Buy's exclusive line, does offer a fairly overall decent TV with desirable features like smart Firestick built-in and 4K resolution, among other things. The big problem with Insignia however isn't so much with any one specific TV of theirs, but more often rather a particular model. Scour a number of reviews for whatever model your interested in and see how that particular model is working out for others. No this isn't any kind of guarantee yours will be the same, but it's probably the best reference so as to know what to expect from a particular model. And while most Insignia TV's are decent enough there are a few models that are sketchy and are prone to either needing repairs more so than others and/or that develop weird, bizarre little issues, like needing a full reset every so often. Still, given that the sale price has been at approx $300 for a good while it seems to equate to a good value. I would also say that Insignia TV's are BETTER than some popular national brands such as TCL, Hisense & Element. Honestly I'd probably put the majority of their models on particular with brands like Philip's, Westinghouse & Vizio, a lot of mid tier TV's That are also an overall good value and generally worth it. The thing with mid tier TV's usually is it's generally a total mystery as to if you got a good one that'll last umpteen years or if you got one that'll die on you in 6 months to a year or less. So ultimately suggest how your luck is in general and go with that.

Good, but also could easily be better.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Insignia is a brand that tries to come across as better than they really are. For the most part their entry level TV’s comparable to Element, Hisense, ONN, Westinghouse and other bottom tier brands. However until about 8-10 years ago most people actually had a lot of really good luck with their products and they were then more comparable to brands like Vizio, Philip’s, Toshiba, etc who all make reasonably all around good TV’s that are totally worth it. But your average Best Buy employee still tries to paint the current models by Insignia as being as good as they were years ago. Their basis to back any of it up? The same as years ago, the fact that Insignia TV’s are largely compromised of components from other, bigger & well known TV manufacturers. Perhaps, but either way the overall result is now nowhere near as good as it was years ago. Today’s Insignia TV’s, like the other lower tier brands I mentioned above, are something of a gamble. Odds are you’ll either get an incredibly mediocre and sketchy one that only lasts a few months (at most) and the warranty is only good if you get their Geek Squad extended warranty and you’ll end up cursing their name OR you’ll end up with one that after roughly half a year to a year you can trust will go the distance and last for as long as you want it for. So what’s all this equate to? Basically if your after any bottom tier brand of TV for the bedroom or kids room then it’s an easy recommendation, as a primary, main or long term TV then you are likely better served with at the very least a mid tier brand.

Getting to know my 50”
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture is good but I would prefer a remote with a keypad and there is no last or recall button to go immediately back to the previous channel. Also the sound appears to come from the back instead of the front for better sound quality. This is a good tv for a smaller room.

Great purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had read other reviews regarding the sound not being very good due to the speaker at the bottom and facing down. We have not had any issues with that at all and my hearing is not good! The picture is wonderful and setting up the device was easy. This is the 2nd insignia television we have purchased and the first one lasted many years before needing to be replaced.
