This is a decent little Android tablet if you're not in a hurry to get things done, or jump from app to app. If you're going to open an app and stay in it for a while, this is PERFECT for the money. The processor is a little slow, and I can only find 2g wifi signals.
On the plus side -- it is a good size. It's not too big, nor too small. I can open my newsfeed reader, or my social media program, and catch up on things easily.

I bought this tablet and a Samsung at BB for Christmas presents. After less than a week the Insignia started freezing up and getting very hot. I live about 2 hours away from the person I gave it to so I drove back up there and exchanged if for another of the same type. Turns out this one was very slow, got hot and now the screen has fractured INTERNALLY within 2 days of the exchange. Maybe built up heat? Wasn't dropped or anything like that. With the screen broke I'm sure BB won't go for a third one so I guess I'll give up and NOT recommend this tablet for anyone(it wasn't handled rough at all & still has the original screen protector on it.) Really have enjoyed BB's products until this one and have been a good customer for years... Out almost $70 on this.

Get what you pay for and probably not too much more. Short battery, warm when used for extended time. Biggest issue is that it takes awhile or doesn't pick up home wifi. But for $60 what could you really expect.

Bought this for my 9 yr old. She would only play it for about an hour every couple of days since Christmas. The battery life says it should last about 4.7 hours on a full charge. Lie. It doesn't even last 2 hours wit her just playing normal app games. Also, while she is on it for just that long, it heats up and the back gets very warm. Lastly, 3 of the times that she has played it, it has randomly shut down and restarted itself for no reason. I returned it yesterday and will be purchasing a better tablet from somewhere else for her. I was Very disappointed. No I would not recommend this to anyone.

Got this tablet for my kids. The first one stopped charging within a year of purchasing it, so we got a replacement under warranty. It's not a fast or high-powered tablet, but it works.

This works, and if you are patient and have modest expectations, it works reasonably well, for its price. I paid about $50 for an open-box. If it had been $100, I would give it 3 stars ***. It is slow to start - well, it is slow for most everything - and you may need to help it find your wifi, even if it knew it before. I got it for use as a map unit in the car, with pre-downloaded maps (Osmand, Maps.me, ViewRanger, Here WeGo, Locus, Galileo, etc), to save battery on the phone, so I am not switching between apps so much, and so I can see it without picking it up. It does have a GPS, albeit a poor one. It can only track a few satellites at a time, I think 8, and in poor reception conditions, can take a long time to work out which handful of satellites will give it a location. Better quality devices will simultaneously track twenty or more. If haven't used it for a while, it is a good idea to refresh A-GPS (https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Assisted_GPS; A-GPS apps are available via Google Play store) and get a fix while you are on wifi and can leave the unit sitting with a good view of the sky for a while. Maybe a half an hour. You can be updating apps and maps during that time, and making sure the battery is charged, so the time isn't wasted. Once the GPS is working, it has been reasonably useful for me, keeping the map more or less centered, though not necessarily updating quickly enough for turn-by-turn navigation, especially if you don't have a moon roof, so have metal instead of plastic between the tablet and the sky. Amazon Fire tablets don't have GPS, except older models with cellular data, so in the lower price ranges this is a better choice if you want GPS, If you don't care about GPS, you should look hard at the Amazon products, or pay more. If you want a good, quick GPS, pay quite a bit more. All things considered, I like mine, but I have other devices that I use more and like more.

Wanted to buy my son a cheap tablet since I broke the Kindle Fire 7 I got him last year. Those Fires are great and all but you only get 1 drop with them and the cheap screen breaks. But this isn't a review of the Kindle Fire7. The Insignia 8 looked a like a good replacement towards the Fire7. It has a bigger screen and the display model seem to be quite responsive. I didn't want to spend too much money on a tablet for a 3 year old. It only need to load a couple of simple games and YouTube.
Out of the box, the quick setup guide said to charge the tablet for at least 8 hours prior to use. I did that. But battery life was really poor. Only around 4 hours or so with consistent use.
The major problem with this tablet is the slow response time. App took way too long to load. And this is where the tablet ultimately failed and broke. My son is not patient and because if this, he kept pressing everything on screen which cause the tablet to error out. Blue screen and restarted. For whatever the reason, once the tablet restarted, I was unable to unlock the darn thing. Google verification kept saying I wasnt the original user although I set up a new google account just for this tablet. So it became unusable thus, I returned it. Used it for roughly 3 days. Each day, the tablet got slower as more automatic updates load. Had to manually turn off automatic app updates. Even so, the tablet ran slow. I just wanted something that can load YouTube. This tablet can't even do that effectively.

As others have noted, this is not a high end tablet. For the price, it is a remarkable value. I received a gift card for my birthday from my daughter and picked this up to replace my old Samsung 10.1 tablet (first generation!) which doesn't boot after 5 years of continuous service.
Colors and contrast are good to very good, depending on what you are doing with it. Stream video works smoothly for me on a wireless connection with Netflix, Amazon, Youtube and general internet videos.
I have not had any problems with loss of network connectivity as some folks have reported: those kinds of problems can be caused by other factors.
Speed for the kind of use I have..email, checking news, playing simple games like solitaire, reading...checking out videos, cruising the internet is fine for me. Delays are more often caused by densely populated web pages with dozens of video links and animations than the tablet itself. I have the same problem with my i7 desktop.
The touch screen seems to capture skin oils more than other touch screens I use. It does not affect normal use, but is obvious when powered down.
I may have a problem with the included transformer. After my first charge of the tablet, it only recharged to 61% after an all night charge. Using a different transformer of same specs charged it OK. One other note on charging: I found the charging display estimate to be inaccurate. I'll give an update on the transformer later if needed.
As for giving this to a child, I would make sure they are responsible. Construction is OK, but not as solid as more expensive tablets which could be a better alternative if you want them to use the tablet for things like school.

I just bought this tablet a few days ago and let me just say how impressed I am with it. There is a lot of internal storage space on in the tablet. When a microSD card is inserted into the tablet, there is an option for it you to set it as the internal storage, which while downloading apps will actually conserve the onboard internal storage while downloading files to the microSD card, which is a first for me. The Intel quad-core processor is super fast, but tends to lag when too many tasks are running at once. I am impressed with the battery life as even after downloading files after 3 hours there is still 2/3 of a charge left. The only complaint I have is that the Wi-Fi tends to lag when there is a weak signal and that can slow downloading speeds, even on high speed networks. Other than that I think this is a really good tablet for the price. It is perfect for anybody who want to get the job done yet save a few bucks.
NOTE: The tablet that is sold in-store is different in appearance and design than the one pictured. For pictures of the actual unit, you can go onto eBay, type the model number in search, and from there see auctions/listings with pictures of this before you decide to buy it.

Looked for an affordable tablet for educational lab use and found a pretty decent device for web and light android apps. Pleasantly surprised. Planning to buy 10 inch version for elderly parent with older model iPad that runs slowly. Really no need for Apple price or high end device which will only be used as reader and web browser.

I bought this as a replacement for my old Samsung. The screen resolution is great. The tablet is easy to use thanks to its Android 6. It has 16 GB storage (expandable). I use it mainly for reading e books while listening to music. I tried it for streaming a movie recently and it did a good job. For the price, it's a great buy

This tablet has such a low price, it makes it hard to review it harshly. Everything seemed to work quite well, and the Bluetooth was especially impressive (better performance than Samsung 7" tablet) but it is noticeably slow and has lag times. After a few days of use the wifi and Bluetooth connection became unreliable and that ultimately made me de use to return it. I don't know if I got a bad one or if this is a problem with the model. If all you need is a basic tablet, this one may serve you well for the price.

I can recommend this tablet as a cheap gift, its great for web browsing and media consumption. It can be hold with just one hand and it offer expandable storage; it has 16gb of internal storage. My only 2 complains so far is sound quality of the speakers and that if you push it to hard it can get warm. But again is cheap so for that price gets the job done.

After having an Insignia tablet that I wore out, I was excited to upgrade to a slightly larger memory. This tablet is a nice basic unit. My particular tablet has developed a glitch of occasionally not wanting to turn on, but it has not been a major problem yet. I use mine mostly as an e-reader, and for that, and surfing the net, it is great.
