HDMI video signal can flake out occasionally when splitting it (turning the source off and on again a few times fixes it) as is typical with HDMI. If you're wondering, it does send audio to both the analog (RCA) and digital (HDMI) outputs. Very happy with this device, as it allowed me to continue using my analog stereo receiver and speakers with my Google Chromecast HD.

This device works very well as an audio extractor, Audio out is excellent quality and allows me to hook up my HDMI devices to my computer speakers AUX or optical input. I use a computer monitor as my tv as well, so it has no sound out, so I needed a solution to get sound from stream boxes and my xbox. Works great, with one exception. With this inline, the Apple TV 4K 2nd gen i recently bought, refuses to change Display settings. It gives error screen that says there was a problem changing and the tv may not support the setting. Plug Apple TV direct to the monitor, or through my hdmi switch, and I can change to any resolution SDR or HDR it offers. I can set say 4K HDR, then unplug the cable, put back into extractor, and it works fine, just can not change it unless its removed again. This is a big issue, since the Apple TV does not support Auto HDR switching and I mostly watch SDR content, but want to change to HDR when needed. It works perfect with my Nvidia Shield, no matter what resolution or Auto HDR, SDR mode. Just be warned, it does not work well with Apple TVs.

I’ve been using this for a bit now and it’s been working perfectly. Setup was simple, performance has been consistent, and it does exactly what it’s supposed to do with no issues. Compact, straightforward, and reliable. I’d definitely recommend it if you need something that just works.

What I needed. Able to get audio to a sound bar out of a tv that has no Bluetooth or optical out. Sometimes it seems to be problematic with “understanding” the video signal at first but then works fine.

Audio output is satisfactory, but when playing HDMI audio from the source (Dell Inspiron) through the TV (LG 32), as well as into the stereo amplifier (AR 1515) there is a slight processing delay in the signal going from the audio extractor into the stereo. This results in an 3ms echo. Setup required quite a few configuration changes in the Dell computer audio setup to ensure the audio output of the extractor was high enough to play properly from the stereo.

I bought a new TV and found out a lot of smart TVs don't have analog outputs for my Sony RF headphones. So, I bought this Audio Extractor and I plug my Roku streaming stick into its HDMI input, TV HDMI from my Vizio TV plugged into its HDMI output, my TV optical audio to its optical input, my Yamaha soundbar to its optical output, and finally my Sony headphone transmitter to its 3.5mm output jack. Everything works like a charm!

Thank you for the detailed feedback. We're glad to hear that the audio extractor worked perfectly for your setup and allowed you to continue using your Sony RF headphones with your new smart TV. It's great to know that everything connected smoothly and is functioning just as you needed. Your experience is a great example of how adaptable solutions can enhance modern entertainment systems.

This Insignia 4K Audio extractor does an excellent job, we use it to connect hearing aids for better listening experiences. Everyone can listen to the volume appropriate to them. Simple design that is easy to tuck out of the way.

This does exactly what I need it to do. I have a 4K monitor that doesn’t have any speakers, audio jacks, or anything that I can run audio from. I play a PS5 on it, however, I’m forced to always play with a headset to hear the audio. This device allows me to run the audio through a set of decent speakers/subwoofer. I was a bit skeptical that there would be some lag or loss of video/audio quality, but nope, there doesn’t seem to be any lag or quality drop off at all. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is just because the design is kind of basic and ugly and doesn’t look good at all sitting on the desk. I’ll likely rig it with some velcro or something underneath the desk. Time will tell on that I suppose. It’s worth nothing that I only need to it run 60 FPS and 4K. I can’t speak to its performance at a higher frame rate.

I bought this because I have a Blu-Ray player with no analog audio outputs and no way to provide input to my portable speakers with the projector attached. By putting this between the player output and the projector input, I'm able to use the 3.5mm jack to connect some desktop stereo speakers. The output is perfectly adequate for this purpose. Unfortunately I did not test the optical digital audio output, but I'll assume it works. My only complaint is that I would have liked to have seen analog audio outputs for the additional (rear/center/SW) channels, and I've seen options from other manufacturers that support this.

I went looking for something that did this and the techs helped me find this as well as talked to me about the things that I was hoping to discover about how to improve my home theater system.

I was disappointed to learn that the Xbox Series S has no optical audio out! I am still using a Yamaha receiver with 5.1 as my sound system (old school, I know!) and really needed to get the optical to hear 5.1 This Insignia box did the trick. Two things to watch for after you install it: 1) Make sure the switch on the box is set to 5.1 2) After installing it, you will need to set the audio out in the settings of the Xbox Series S. Make sure to mark the the "Pass Thru" on the audio options screen.

Can confirm 1080p 120hz works with this paired with a ps5. Have not tried 4k 60hz as it is advertised but the 120hz capability in 1080p tells me it would have no problem doing 60hz in 4k. It's a simple and sleek product that gets the job done. Now able to channel audio from my ps5 to my Schiit stack and run hdmi to my monitor.

Using my soundbar HDMI arc wouldn’t allow 1440p. Got this thing, connected to soundbar with optical cable and good to go! 1440p @ 120 Hz HDR.

It did not work with a 70 inch LG TV with HDMIARC. I wanted to play the TV sound through my old Kenwood receiver with RCA inputs. I didn't get any sound from the RCA or headphone output. I tried the unit on my computer and had very good sound, of a video playing, from the headphone output to play on a 3 piece computer speakers system.

This worked perfectly for my needs. I needed to send a 4k HDR signal from my roku to my projector and receiver separately because my receiver isn't new enough to pass the signal through itself. I tried a 4k hdmi splitter first but it downconverted both signals to 1080p because of my receiver. This extractor pfixed the issue and was cheaper as well!

This adapter is great for connecting sound to old systems, like my Denon receiver. I was unable to enjoy the connection of a new HDMI cord to my receiver because the technology is old. I am glad that I can enjoy listening to sound through my Denon receiver using this adapter especially through my woofer

Used for pulling audio out of projector signal to feed to theater receiver. A little finicky but I suspect that’s mostly due to the receiver.

Insignia has answered several questions on this product page stating that it does not support 120hz @ 1440p and they are wrong. HDMI 2.0b (which this product uses) supports up to 144hz @ 1440p so I took a chance and picked one up today. I hooked it up to my Xbox Series X and it works just fine at 120hz with a resolution of 1440p. It is important to note that you cannot use VRR. Also, the cables you use absolutely matter. I have the HDMI 2.1 cable that comes with the Series X going from the console to the Insignia HDMI Audio Extractor, and another HDMI cable that is rated for 48Gbps (way more than this outputs) from the Extractor to my monitor. If you can't get this to work at 120hz @ 1440p there is likely an issue on your end so check your settings.

This review is for three items purchased from Best Buy. First was LG 24" 24LF454B-PU, this was to replace TV in my motorhome. Did not need top end TV when only used up to 30 days a year. This TV only has (1) one HDMI and no other output/input Port. The internal sound on the TV has a lot to be desired. With the generator running was about impossible to hear. Had been using laptop to watch DVD, this was no good either. I went to Best Buy and explained my issue, and wanted a DVD and a Mimi Sound Bar. I took the spec on my TV showing that it only had one HDMI port. The first sales person said that it was not the best solution but sold me Sony DVD player, Insigia (Best Buy brand) Mini 2.0 Channel Mini Sound Bar, and also Insignia HDMI Audio Extractor. I had no idea on what to do with the extractor. I ran the HDMI cable from the only port on the TV to the Sony DVD player. The Sony player has RCA output. I ran the RCA output to the Sound Bar, that has RCA input. I am not good about reading installation instructions, they refer to many things I do not understand. I did get sound out of the sound bar one time. The next time I tried to play a DVD no sound. I also was having problems entering program setup on the DVD. Pack up DVD, sound bar and audio extractor. I returned the audio extractor. Talked to a second salesman ask how use setup to use the sound bar. Told hem I had got audio from the sound bar. Asked hem about installation instructions. He told me that he did not use them. Maybe he better start, and maybe he should know about Insigia (Best Buy brand) Sound Bar capabilities. He check out the Sony DVD not entering setup, and found it to be defective. Best Buy gave me a new one. I went home and called Sony tech support. He was very good. He said if the sound bar had RCA input, that it should have some setting for the RCA input. Sure enough I read the installation instruction showed settings for RCA inputs. May Best Buy sales people should understand they do not know everything, or do not tell customers they do.
