Works wonders, the two inserts help a lot too considering the multiple ports that I have in use. Alongside the ability for the Micro SD and normal SD’s to be read, it’s a pretty good deal for 20. Reasonably that is. Overall, it’s been reliable and easy to use.

This card reader does exactly what it advertises, in a super compact form. It has both USB-C and USB-A connectors depending on your computer. I've used the SD card slot with USB-C and had lightning-fast file transfers of photos. Love how small it is: truly portable.

I don’t know how many of these little SD card readers we’ve gone through over the years (probably in the dozens by now), but this is one of the best we’ve come across in quite a while. This Insignia SD/microSD reader stick offers 2x the connectivity and 2x the compatibility ensuring you’ll never to bother with either a USB port changer or a microSD card adapter to get your pictures or files on/off your memory cards! The design is fairly simple with the enclosure clocking in at about the size of a thick pack of chewing gum, with a full-sized SD card slot and a separate microSD card slot on the side, and a USB-A or USB-C connector at either end. Both USB connectors are protected by a snap-on cover, and the covers even stack together so there’s less chance you’ll inadvertently lay the cover down and then lose it--like has happened with so many of our other SD card readers! Operation was plug-and-play with our Chromebook, Windows desktop, and Windows tablets instantly recognizing the memory card we used, regardless of whether we used the USB-A or USB-C connector or the standard SD or microSD card slot. Note however that this reader is single LUN which means it can only present one memory card at a time to the host computer; if you have both card slots filled at the same time, neither card will be recognized. The packaging indicates that the Insignia dual card reader offers up to 95MB/s transfer speed; I ran a series of CrystalDiskMark tests to see just how well Insignia’s claims held up. I started with a SanDisk Extreme 512GB microSD card with a rated speed of up to 160MB/s read and 90MB/s write using SanDisk’s proprietary adapter to obtain baseline “peak” performance of the card itself. Obtained results were just a bit better than SanDisk’s advertised speeds for this card at 167.62MB/s read and 106.39MB/s write. Next using the Insignia dual card reader in the ZenBook’s USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port, CrystalDiskMark reported 95.91MB/s read and 85.76MB/s write speeds which falls right in line with Insignia’s 95MB/s transfer speed claim, with just a hair lower write performance than SanDisk’s advertised speeds for this card. To see if port type made any difference, I ran the same tests using the ZenBook’s Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port. Reported results were virtually identical with read speeds maxing out at 94.15MB/s and write speeds at 85.86MB/s. Although the form-factor for this Insignia dual card reader is very convenient, I do wish it offered an activity LED just to let you know when the reader was *successfully* being accessed/used. The snap-on caps are also appreciated, though the fit isn’t necessarily very tight; some light magnets or a slightly more aggressive snap-fit would provide additional reassurance that you won’t inadvertently misplace or dislodge one of the protective caps while it’s being transported in a pocket, bag, or backpack. These quibbles aside, this is a solid and economically priced card reader that offers the flexibility of multiple device and multiple memory card compatibility with cable-decluttering convenience while reaching its advertised transfer speeds (so long as you are using a memory card that meets or exceeds the reported 95MB/s throughput limit). This reader is a definitely recommended accessory for photographers on the go or those using SD or microSD memory cards as external drives for easily transportable file storage.

I have a variety of devices that use SD cards to function. Cameras, 3D printers, laser cutters, and so I frequently use USB adapters to help me transfer data between devices and computers. I appreciate that Insignia's USB adapter has both USB-A and USB-C connectors, as I have devices that primarily use one or the other, and that it supports both SD and MicroSD cards. I also like the fact that it's relatively large while still being compact, which makes it harder to lose (a frequent problem of mine). As it's often being used in a dusty workshop, I also appreciate that both connectors have caps. Not that the device is meant to be dust resistant (the slots for both card types are open), but it does help. This card reader is advertised as UHS-1, which in the world of confusing SD card classification, means up to 100 megabyte per second reads and 10 megabyte per second writes, in ideal conditions. I tested with a UHS-3 V60 card from my camera, and the reader came very close to these numbers, with 90MB/s sequential read and 9.6MB/s sequential write, with random reads and writes being a few MB/s slower. I've had other readers that claim to be UHS-1 that don't achieve half that speed. Overall, this is a nice, well-designed device that does exactly what it says it will. Definitely recommend.

Truly universal SD reader perfect USB A & C

Most of the time these SD card adapters are only USB-A but in 2023 thats not okay. Thats where this one comes in it has BOTH USB-A and USB-C that can be used so it will work with almost any device you can think of. The other major thing seen here is it has a combo of both a standard SD card slot and micro. I personally tried it out on my MacBook, Chromebook, gaming laptop, and iPad and all worked flawlessly! With SD cards you expect slow file transfer and there isn’t much change here accept for the fact that this beats all the other cheaper made ones ive gotten other places as far as file transfer speed which is nice. As far as SD cards I used some from all my devices and all are read and written from perfectly as well just as you’d want. Theres nothing more to desire here from an all in one device that has great versatility and at a great price to boot. Win win. Im really looking forward to see when the iPhone 15 drops how they will interact with devices like these as well since they are so universal it would make sense for this to work but at the time of writing that is unknown. As of now this does the job of being an SD card reader better than any one ive had before and I can recommend it.

Insignia is a highly trusted brand, best known for making long lasting, reliable & affordable electronics. This SD & MicroSD Card Reader is a life saver because of it's extreme versatility. It transfers data at a blazing 95MB/second on both SD Cards & Micro SD Cards. This card reader is compatible with Mac OS, Chrome OS, iPad OS, Android & Windows OS. It plugs directly into the latest iPads, smart phones & laptops with USB-C, and plugs into the established USB-A, as well. Using this card reader is very intuitive. Simply plug your SD Card or Micro SD Card into the slot on the side of the card reader, then plug the card reader into your smart phone, tablet, or computer, using the onboard USB-C or USB-A connector. That is it! The 95 MB/S high transfer speed comes to life, as your data transfers instantly; no buttons to push & no fuss. A protective cap covers each end, protecting the USB-C & the USB-A connectors. The caps are brilliantly designed to fit on the back of the other cap, so you never have to sit a cap down & forget it. CONCLUSION: This is a Must-Have Tool for the photographer. It is intelligently designed, a fast performer & fits in your pouch or pocket. Highly recommended!

The Insignia Memory Card Reader is just what I need in this household for all of my devices. The Insignia Memory card reader is compatible with SD, MicroSD, SDHC, Micro-SDHC, SDXC, and Micro-SDXC cards. One end of the card reader has a USB connection and the opposite end has a USB-C connection. When unboxing I was amazed that this card reader with both tip covers on the ends on only measures a little over 3 inches. You will receive the card reader, USB tip cover, USB-C tip cover and a quick set-up guide. Set-up is basically plug and play. I first used the card reader to transfer pictures taken with my Nikon camera. I put the SDHC card in the correct opening and plugged it into my Dell AIO. The card reader read the memory card and transferred my pictures. Next I used the card reader to transfer a design from my computer to my embroidery machine. The design was transferred without any problems. So far, I have used this card reader with a Windows PC, Chromebook, Android tablet, laptop, Android phone, and a 6 needle embroidery machine. Highly recommend.

Having recently bought a new laptop, I ran into an issue where all the ports are USB-C while all my old card readers are USB-A. I needed something that could read my micro sd cards and SD cards to transfer both photo and video from my devices to my laptop to view and edit. There is nothing flashy about this device but it does what it is expected to do. Has the ability to plug into both USB-a and c which is nice as I will be able to use it between both my new and old computers. The device is very small and slightly bigger than the size of a portable flash drive which is perfect for those on the go and need to carry equipment. My one concern upon first view was if it would have any issues if I were to sit my laptop on a flat surface as the laptop is very thin. Thankfully, no issues in this aspect and there was a little room for clearance which was good. Transfer speeds on this device is excellent. All my files transferred with no issues off both my micro sd and sd card. The included caps fit nicely and don’t fall off keeping the ports clean so I have no worries there. Overall, this is a great little device for anyone who needs to transfer or view files from their micro sd and sd cards. Small, compact, fast and gets the job done. Highly recommend it.

    Handy USB-C / USB-A card reader

Handy little USB-C and USB-A 3.2 card reader. It reads both SD and micro SD cards with male USB-C and USB-A connectors on both ends. It’s rated to transfer data at up to 95 MB a second. I didn’t do any official speed tests, but my SanDisk micro SD card was recognized quickly on both my Android phone and Windows PC. Transfer rates seemed quick when copying a bunch of images and video files. It’s a bit limited in terms of types of cards it can read, but SD and micro SD are the most common, as are the USB-A and USB-C connectors. It makes swapping files between my phone and PC a legitimately easy affair. I also love that it’s about the size of a stick of gum, so it’s easy to carry around and be with me when I need it most. The only drawback I’ve found is that the USB-C connector is a little short and won’t fit into my phone without taking off the phone case. Not a big deal, but something to keep in mind if you plan on connecting it to your phone frequently. Overall though, this is a solid little SD/micro SD card reader and is small enough to always carry on you. Good job Insignia!
