We finally decided to replace our pet series 500 Roomba (it would have lasted longer had it not been for 2 unfortunate pet sickness issues that shorted it out). The 960 is an expensive unit no doubt but for us well worth every penny. We have mostly hardwood floors and it does an incredible job picking up pet hair, better than the previous model. The only complaint I have is it gets stuck on our super shaggy rug.

This is my first Roomba, so I don’t have anything to compare it against but my other hand-held vacuum cleaners. I love how it just cleans while I’m at work. And being able to see where it cleaned and how long it took on the app is amazing! It tried to eat my phone charger, though. If there were a way to be able to leave cords on the floor without the Roomba eating it, I would give it 6 stars!

couldn't be happier with the Roomba 960

Purchased the Roomba after getting great review from my son. I couldn't be happier. I've had problems with my right elbow and the constant vacuuming with 3 dogs and 2 cats was painful. I have 2 large heavily shedding dogs and cats and had constant pet hair on the floor even with vacuuming twice a day. I haven't even taken my vacuum out since I bought the Roomba and my floors have never been cleaner. The dogs are not bothered by it they just climb up on their beds or couches and sleep while the Roomba makes its way around the house. I used the virtual wall barrier to keep Roomba from going down the hall to the bedrooms since that area was clean and it worked great. I was concerned at spending so much for a vacuum especially when I can easily fill a Shark vacuum canister with dog hair in one vacuuming at times and I have had no problems with the Roomba. It tells me when the canister...which is much larger than I expected..is full and I go empty it which is super easy and it goes on it's way. considering I bought at least 3 different pricey vacuums in the past that did little to help keep my floors clean this was the deal of the century for me. no more moving my heavy antique sofa or tables and he gets under my bed no problem. He does well with rugs even those with fringe. I have all hardwood floor and was so sick of the constant collection of dog hair everywhere. I can finally feel good about what the floors look like. I am able to start Roomba from my phone or send him to his home base from anywhere, but I haven't chosen to run him when I'm not home. Can't say enough about how happy I am with the purchase.

Great little vac. Does a great job for our house. It cleans the bottom floor that is wood and tile. Only issue we have is it tends to get stuck under our couch from time to time.

I went with this Roomba for several reasons: -wanted full room cleaning -price point -control via app -easy to use app Actual review after usage and to expect: -it cleans progressively better; expect to be disappointed the first time but as it maps out your place, it works noticeably better! I think the 3rd pass was where I was satisfied and happy with its performance. -wires...this thing hates wires and sometimes if you leave it around, its both amusing and annoying.. The biggest problem I've found on Roombas is that there are SOO MANY VARIANCES AND TOO FEW REVIEWS ON LEGITIMATE WEBSITES! for anyone wanting a Roomba that's affordable, this would be one of the 3 and, given the price point I paid for on Black Friday it was the best choice. Otherwise I'd say the Roomba i7 and 980 would be the only other 2 to consider. For the record I paid around $500 for this Roomba whcih was approximately half of the 980 and 1/3 of the i7. As a forewarning, this isn't a technologically friendly device! If your comfortable using apps and want a time saver on vacuuming or have pets and want to have something to assist with that function, this is perfect!

This does a very thorough job of vacuuming our floors (hardwood, tile and dhurrie rugs). Takes about 2 hours to do about 2200 sf. I'm always amazed at how much it picks up even though the floors look clean. I did, however, not have a perfect situation from day one. It was taking several hours (4+) which just didn't seem right. I contacted customer service and they did everything they could to get the problem corrected. At first, they thought the battery wasn't holding the charge so they sent a replacement battery. It still was taking too long (I have a friend with 2 dogs and about the same area which usually took about 2 hours) and so I knew something wasn't right. I was often cancelling the job even though the app showed it wasn't completed. They then replaced the whole unit and now it works like a charm. Good to know that iRobot didn't hesitate to make it work since it's pretty expensive. I really wanted this to work well as I'd end up with a terrible backache after vacuuming. If there are rooms that I don't need it to do, I just close the door (e.g. guest rooms not used, pantry, laundry). App gives a map of what areas have been cleaned and you can customize the number of passes it makes. Very happy to have it. If only I had a robot to cook! Oh, wait, I do. It's my husband!

Definitely keeps the house cleaner. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and I am amazed how much dirt and hair this collects on a daily basis. We used to vacuum once a week and now run the Roomba everyday and the dust bin is full every day. The 2 negatives that I can say are it does get stuck somewhere about every third day. If we are now home, it will just die were it is at. It has wedged itself under furniture, kicked up a throw rug, got struct in the track of a slider, etc. The biggest issue is the cliff sensor, we had to remove an area rug in one of our rooms because it saw it as an abyss and would not enter the room. It was like the Chinese people on that glass bridge, terrified to immobility. I contacted Irobot to offer a suggestion to be able to turn off the cliff sensor in the App for those of us with a single story home and no stairs. I got a very lawyerly email back from them saying that if I had read the terms and conditions, I can not offer them any advice on how to improve their product.

I bought this almost 2 years ago. The robot is great. I am very pleased with the performance. I have to empty the bin after every run, but it can usually vacuum the entire first floor without filling and I run it at least every other day. No more dirty floors!! Picks up pet hair well. Gets the edges well. It’s fairly quiet but I prefer not to be in the room while it’s running. My little dog feels the same way! Big dog doesn’t mind the vacuum at all. There is a low pile rug that has dark circles and sometimes the vacuum thinks it’s going to fall off a cliff and stops without cleaning in the circles. That’s a minor flaw, I just use the regular vacuum on the rugs for a deeper clean. Overall it’s a lifesaver especially if you have bare floors.

    Gizmo

I bought Gizmo as a birthday gift to myself. I have three cats so track litter all over my living room floor and my Roomba (which I named Gizmo) is great at keeping that mess to a minimum. The first time you start it up, it will wander around randomly and bang into everything. It's mapping your space when it does so. Once it has a layout of the floor, it'll move in a more structured pattern. My one complain about the Roomba is that its bin is not very large, so even though all that Gizmo is cleaning is litter, it can only hold about 2-3 days worth before its bin needs to be changed. Not a big deal, but it also doesn't tell you that it's full until the middle of the cycle. The app is great; when I went out of town I was able to let my apartment-sitter know when there was a problem with Gizmo so he could easily fix it. If there is any problem with the Roomba, the app will tell you what the problem is and provide a video of how to fix it. It enjoy having it; using a regular upright vacuum scares my cats and they freak out whenever it turns on. Gizmo is small and not particularly loud, so they aren't afraid of it. I'd recommend it to anyone who isn't able to clean consistently or isn't home all day and can't vacuum at night.

Clean Floors, but not worry free...

I had been eyeing a robot vacuum for a short wile. My 11 month old son got the nickname "Roomba" as he's roaming the floor putting whatever he can find in his mouth - stuff I didn't even know existed would find it's way in there, so I said maybe it's time for something that will keep the floor cleaner than I was able to do on a regular basis. Let's get to it. The good: This thing does a great job cleaning, which is it's primary function. My floors look great! I have a 2,970 Square Foot home, split between two stories. My Roomba lives on the first floor and that level is a split between hardwood and standard carpet that's probably 13 years old. The Roomba runs M-W-F in the morning after my Son goes to day care, so he's not an obstacle. Emptying the bin always amazes me at what this thing picks up - not just objects, but literal dirt and general fuzz from the floor. My biggest concern was cleaning under the cabinets, and the Roomba 960 far exceeded my expectations in that regard. I thought the app might have more knobs and switches for me to play with, but it really doesn't. You set a simple schedule and tell it to clean and it does it's thing - so operation is pretty simple. Most of our home is controlled by Alexa, and the Roomba is no different. When setting up your robot vacuum, you give it a name. So literally, if I want the robot to clean out of schedule, I simply say "Alexa, ask Jeeves to clean." and boom - my floors are being cleaned. If Roomba starts and it's an in-opportune time, I can simply say "Alexa, ask Jeeves to go home" and boom - the robot goes back to the dock. I am impressed that the robot can judge it's battery well enough to go home and charge, and it's never lost it's way home. The map that I get in my app at the end of a job is also pretty cool - it highlights where the robot was able to clean, and where it needed a little extra attention because it detected areas that required extra cleaning. The not-so-good: This thing requires a LOT of maintenance. I expect to have to empty the bin, but it seems that after about two weeks, the bin capacity somehow got cut in half. The bin is nowhere near full and the robot is frequently cutting jobs short due to the bin being full. With that being said, I suspect it has something to do with the bin-full sensors. Sometimes emptying the bin does nothing, but wiping the dust off the sensors seems to clear the issue. The robot has gotten stuck a few times. Though I'm impressed at it's ability to go under things, like my bookshelf in my office or my Son's Cozy Coupe, I get notifications that a wheel is stuck and the robot needs tending to. I also tried to schedule it to run at night, but that didn't work so well. It typically takes about 2.5 hours to clean my lower level, but the nighttime cleans only ran for about 30 minutes. I suspect it's due to the mapping feature and the onboard camera requiring light to operate. I also thought with the mapping feature, the robot would get smarter over time as well as allow me to identify areas and have the robot clean those areas. For example, I'd love it if I could send the robot into the kitchen every night to clean the floor after preparing dinner, but this is not a feature of this model - I guess you have to move into the i7/i9 series to get this feature. Shame on me for not doing complete research on this, but when I went to the store, it was essentially explained to me as "mapping vs random pattern (no mapping)" robots. The robot doesn't seem to learn the house via it's mapping feature either - from what I can tell it uses the information available to it at the time of the clean - no historics are used. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the purchase, however I may have sprung for a better model had I known about some of the shortcomings of this device, and I wish it required a bit less maintenance.

I am very pleased with this robot. It cleans really well and operates from your phone which is convenient. I have dogs and it does a great job picking up the hair so I don't have to dry mop 2 times a day.. Great purchase. I gave it 4 stars only because it is a little expensive and I need more time to evaluate it.. But for now, this one s great!!

Our iRobot, Roomba 960 is wonderful! We have two German Shepherds who spend half of their time inside and half of their time outside. This leads to a great deal of dirt and hair in the house and I was vacuuming multiple times per day. Now, the vacuuming is done while I'm at work and it is done very well. The Roomba cleans better than I ever could because it fits under furniture vacuuming every bit of floor space every time. It is a pleasure to come home to a clean house instead of coming home to clean the house.

A few days before this, I had purchased the Roomba E5. It was so horrible... when I asked or sent it home, it would always get lost and have an error. Either that or take forever to go home and the battery will die out. The 960 is almost a new ball game. Especially with the map layout. As long as you don't carry it to some unknown territory, it won't really get lost. Around this time of year though, i had a christmas tree, sleigh, and a lot of mail box and presents laying around, it actually had a difficult time getting to it's location. Maybe obstruction? Maybe i misplaced the barrier that Roomba offers to block certain areas of the house? When everything was cleaned up, it was normal again. I did noticed that for my bedroom, i have a pretty uneven level from the hallway to my room. I'd say about 1 inch lower, so it would think its the stairs and stop while the E5 just jumped the gun and went down to clean. Maybe that's something to keep in mind? I'm still amazed how intelligent this vacuum is and that the mapping is awesome. Works well with Google mini.

We try to keep a clean household and have a service come once every two weeks. That said, after purchasing two of these (one for up, the other for downstairs), I was shocked how much dust and pet hair these guys pick up, running every day. Definitely worth the purchase. The setup with the iPad was a little clunky, but once done, it works very well. You do need to give it a few seconds for the iPad to find the Roombas as the WiFi signal has to reconnect itself after the iPad goes to sleep. Great product!

I've waited a long time to get a great price on this item, and Best Buy came through with a great early Black Friday price, so I jumped at the chance to purchase one. Speaking as someone who has a bad back injury and is unable to push a vacuum, this Roomba is a Godsend. It does a great job on both my tile floors and my carpeted areas, and it is very thorough. I still cannot figure out the pattern it follows, but it appears to get all areas thoroughly. There are only a couple of areas where it doesn't fit, but I can handle sweeping those tiny areas instead of having to do the whole home. I run the vacuum 3 times a week, and that works great for me. I love that it goes under my dresser and other furniture. I pull the dining room chairs out, and that helps the Roomba to get under the table more easily. Now, I'm watching for the Braava jet to go on sale, and I won't have to try to mop either!

My wife and I have been amazed how great this little guy is ( kids love watching it). We have hard wood floors throughout our house and a throw rug. It literally has helped keep the house looking great. And having a 4 and 5 year old that is an amazing feat. It helps out so atleast 2-3 times a week it thoroughly cleans our floors. It’s amazing to see how much dust and dirt it collects. Here’s the thing it’s very expensive. And it’s not going to replace a good strong vacuum nor a good hardwood floor cleaner. We thought we were going to give it a try and return it because of the cost. But the performance sold us. It picks up a lot of dirt and dust. We have not had it get stuck. A few times we watched it but it worked it out on its own. Sometimes if it’s doing the whole house it may need to recharge which it takes care of itself and sometimes the filter and debris colllecter needs to be emptied but it will let you know. It did a good job on our rug as well. I can not tell a person who has all or a lot of carpeting throughout the house that this is a great purchase. But for the hardwood floors it worked great

We have a yellow lab who sheds like a fiend! He is the sweetest boy, but the hair drove us all crazy!! No more!! Roomba sweeps up all the messes on the hardwood floor, and leaves a trail showing his work on the (low pile) carpet. I put off purchasing because they are so expensive, but wait for the coupon that comes out a few times a year for certain models (and best buy will match competitors pricing, I think) I have a friend who has 2 older irobot models and she recommended hers highly, so other models would be worth checking out too - I spent a long time researching which one to get, and honestly, don't know that it matters a whole lot - think they are all pretty well rated. Oh, and as far as the app for the 9hundred models, it seems that you have to be on the same wifi for it to work... so that's kind of a bust - it isn't like you can set it to go while you are out and about, but it does alert me if it gets stuck somewhere in the house (as long as I'm home on the wifi. It can display a map of its work, keeping a history of where it has cleaned. So far, it is easy to clean the different components. There are tutorials on the app.
