I bought this product for my floor. Cleaning is decent but the main problem is navigation. It tends to clean the same portion everytime. It does not have a functionality to navigate all over of the house. Just didn’t feel too worthy for the price we paid.

This is the second robot vacuum that Ive tried, and honestly, I'm still not sold on these in general. I was unable to connect to my 5ghz wifi connection, so i had to go in to change it to the 2.4 ghz connection to even get started.
Once i finally got it connected to wifi, it was easy and intuitive to set up and get started, but i was kess than impressed with its mapping and cleaning capabilities. Mapping stopped twice in my living room, and i had to start over. With the mapping errors, it took over an hour to get ny living room vacuumed.
I had higher hopes for my tile floors (not as much hair or furniture obstacles as in my carpeted room) and while it did map faster, it didnt seem to pick up much.
A second pass (after mapping) took around 30 minutes for a 15×18 room, and that's my big issue with this. The vacuum is loud and it tajes 30 minutes to do a job that i can do with a traditional vacuum in less than 5. It does a good job of getting under heavy furniture, but unless you schedule the vacuum to run while you're away, the noise is bothersome. Overall, i don't think this is worth a purchase.

Great little robot vacuum

Thesw little robot vacuums are so fun. We named her Alice. She was a little tricky to get connected to the app but I think that was more of an internet issue. The app is straight forward and pairing is pretty easy since the app does most of the work. Minimal packaging which is always a positive. Had a little charge out of the box so we could see it in action right away. I have another brand of this style vacuum on a different floor of the house so it was nice to compare the two. I will say this brand vacuum is noticeably louder than the other brand. We eventually swapped and moved this to the lower level so it's not as disruptive. I don't think I would have minded as much if I didn't have experience with a quieter option. Some noise is to be expected though as it is a vacuum. This does great by stairs and didn't require me to put up sensors like some other brands. The suction is pretty powerful and the little tank to hold debri does take a bit to fill up. Overall this is a great option and I strongly recommend this for anyone with animals that shed or messy children. It doesn't replace a regular vacuum but does great for maintenance cleaning in between.

The iRobot® Roomba® 981 Wi-Fi® Connected Robot Vacuum is an excellent robotic vacuum to have for cleaning your homes’ floors and carpets. I connected it with my Wi-Fi and became able to signal commands to the vacuum with the iRobot Home app I installed on my phone. With extremely strong suction, it can run on Auto for full room cleaning and does an excellent job. A dirty carpet shows clean circular patterns after a run with the iRobot® Roomba® 981 Wi-Fi® Connected Robot Vacuum. The strength of the battery is also shown through the app. I can also program the iRobot® Roomba® 981 Wi-Fi® Connected Robot Vacuum to begin cleaning at a specific time every day. It works right out of the box, with plugging in the charging dock and then using the iRobot Home app to complete setup. The iRobot® Roomba® 981 Wi-Fi® Connected Robot Vacuum picks up dust, hair, dirt, small twigs and just about any item a large manual vacuum can pick up. It is a great addition to my homes’ cleaning arsenal. I am happy to have one.

A friend of mine has owned several of these Roomba vacuums, and I have always been intrigued, and now I finally have one too. The hard part for me was where the Roomba’s home base would be. I don’t have a lot of empty space with an electrical outlet nearby. I settled on a place, which the cat would not have chosen, but for now, Roomba lives near the cat tree. I tried to put the home base in my kitchen on the tile floor, and the base kept moving when Roomba was trying to park, so that didn’t work. I might be able to use carpet tape or something to secure the base to the floor, but I’m not that desperate yet.
I had some trouble setting my Roomba up, which, now that I know, I can explain here what the customer service agent had me do in case somebody else has the same situation. I couldn’t connect the Roomba to my WiFi. I even moved the setup closer to my Modem/ router, but that wasn’t the problem. When I spoke with CS, they had me unscrew the battery cover and take the battery completely out for a minute. Then I put it all back together, and tried it again. Voila, it worked! Sometimes things like that happen, and it’s not as bad as you think it is. When I called CS the wait time was very short, it was a pleasant experience.
To operate, I just downloaded the iRobot app to my iPhone. The app has a lot of functions. The Roomba measures 13.5” in diameter and is 3” high. The Roomba itself is pretty cool. However I didn’t expect it to be so noisy. Whenever I see one of their commercials, it just goes about doing its thing, but there’s no sound. The sound is pretty much like a regular vacuum cleaner, maybe a bit less noisy. There is an eco-mode which makes it a little less noisy, and that is how I have mine set up. The app is very easy to use. I usually let my Roomba run for 15 minutes, so the cat can get used to it. Once the 15 minutes is up, the Roomba stops and makes a little musical sound and drives itself back to the base and parks, and waits for me to ask it to work again. I have also set mine up so it alerts me if the dust bin gets full, and actually stops working if it’s full. Since I have a cat, that is a real possibility if I were to forget to empty it. Emptying the bin isn’t that fun, there should be some kind of brush in the box to help scoot the dirt out. At this point I’m still just using my fingers to grab out the hair, but I’ll be looking for some kind of tool to help me soon. Maybe an old toothbrush will be helpful here.
This model 981 doesn’t come with any virtual wall barriers. My house doesn’t have any stairs down, except for the laundry room, which has a 3" drop. I just found the Roomba in there, so I picked it up and put it back up on the flat floor, pushed the Clean button, and it’s on its merry way again. I guess I’ll have to keep the laundry room door closed when I’m running the Roomba.
I’m not a huge fan of having to vacuum, especially when it’s summer. This handy Roomba will save me some time pushing around a vacuum that blows hot air at me, so it’s a win.

Awesome Little Automated Vacuum

I had previously owned an iRobot vacuum back about 2 years ago. Unfortunately, it did not need our. We’d at the time and I had to return it to Best Buy and go back to our manually vacuuming, sweeping & moping the floors.
Ever since I have continued to check out the offerings by iRobot to see what they had to offer and see is there was anything that. Oils for the bill for what we need. Since we have multiple indoor animals, and my significant other seems to shed her hair like a cat, we have to stay on top of the floors & the hair! (I’m joking but also kinda serious).
I remember back some years ago when the self-cleaning self-learning vacuums were super expensive, heck when I’s bought our iRobot I spent over $600 and got something barely over entry-level. It was simply a point in the technology’s history where it was still expensive, new, and not as easily wide-spread. Being a tech junkie k always want the latest & greatest buf being a family man, I prioritize other more important items over blowing the money on the frivolous. That said, I wish we’d have gotten iRobot vacuum much sooner!
Setup was a breeze. I had done it before but if was a cake walk wifh this new device. Getting it mapping out the rooms in our home, vacuuming on a routine thay made sense for us, all was super easy! I know friends of ours have larger homes with multiple stories and the iRobot devices always get hung up on things but this one is not experiencing that for us. We have been very fortunate to not have any hiccups along the way! It has been smooth sailing! We are extremely happy wifh our Roomba 981 & think you will be too! It looks sleek, operates efficiently & is a god-send for keeping hair picked up!

The iRobot Roomba 981 robot vacuum is a great little helper around the house. Setup is straight forward with the iRobot Home app and I didn't experience any issues with the process.
The performance of the Roomba 981 is pretty good. We have 2 cats and 2 dogs so we have lots of fur around the house. The Roomba does a great job and the hair doesn't tangle much thanks to the dual multi-surface rubber brushes.
We have hard floors with various rugs throughout the house. The 981 does a great job but did get snagged on our light weight kitchen rug a couple times. Overall, that hasn't been much of an issue, though. It's obviously important to pick up any cables, toys etc. before running the Roomba. That way it can do its job without interruption.
Another neat feature of the Roomba 981, is it tries to make neat lines in the carpet. You wont get the sporadic lines all over the carpet as you would with other brands or models.
Overall this is a great robot vacuum. I haven't had any major issues with the Roomba 981. Sure it gets stuck once and a while but that is going to happen with any robot vac. The convenience of technology today is amazing. If you're looking for a robot vacuum, I can definitely recommend the iRobot 981!

New Roomba, better than the old Roomba

This vacuum has excellent suction. It picks up much more than my "nice" push vacuum, and picks up way more than my old Roomba. The bin is the same size as the previous model that we moved to the basement, but this one compacts what it picks up to make better use of it's capacity. It also doesn't clog with dog hair like the old one.
I really like sensor that detects carpet/rugs and hard floors that automatically increases/decreases suction. The volume difference between the two stages is significant so the lower suction mode on all the hard floors is nice a quiet compared to the old Roomba.
I like that this Roomba cleans in rows rather than just wandering around the house like the old one. It seems to do a better job of cleaning all areas of the house. The mapping feature is fine, but it doesn't really have a purpose other than showing you a strange shape that you have to try and decipher. The map does not look like the layout of my house at all. This must be due to all of the obstacles Roomba encounters.
I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a very good robot vacuum that does what it's supposed to. I've been pleased with both Roombas I've had to date.

I really like this vacuum. Setup was very easy and it has a voice to help walk you through getting setup and ready to. Setting up with the App was simple and it walked me through without any issues or having to do anything weird to get them on the network and working.
Once you start it goes and cleans great. I have two dogs, so the first few vacuums the robot needed its "bag" emptied. However once that occurred it now takes a few days before I need to empty the bag. This really helps in keeping the carpeted hallway that everyone runs around in maintained and clean. This helps me save time in the weekly clean since I don't have to worry about the area the Robot covers.
I also enjoy the fact that instead of beeping it will talk to let me get a better what is wrong and helps me fix the little guy so much quicker and get it back to cleaning.
I appreciate the rollers too they really seem to do a good job of getting into the carpet and getting the Dog hair and dirt sucked up. Overall I am very pleased with this and the fact it helps me keep the house clean by giving me more time. I do recommend letting your kids add googly eyes and name it, adds to the charm.

OK Noisy Vac

iRobot was an early, if not the first, entry into robotic vacuum area and has built a good name for itself. As a consumer, I have owned vac bots for a few years now, one upstairs and one down. Being in the market for a new more updated model, the features of the Roomba 981 made it one to consider.
Out of the box, the 981 looks great. Setup via the iRobot app was extremely easy. The time for getting a full charge before use is reasonable. So, when ready to go, I was looking forward to setting it in motion downstairs where the floors are wood, except an area rug in the living room.
As soon as the vac powered on and started to vacuum, I was almost blown out of the room by how LOUD it is. There are three power settings: Automatic, Performance Mode, and Eco-Mode. When it is in Automatic it’s supposed to boost power to deep clean carpets. Even though, it was working on a wood floor, it powered up and down, making it hard on the hearing. Performance mode is always boosted, so the loudness is continual. Eco-Mode is the lowest power level, and its noise level is reduced. However, it's still louder than my older bot vacuums.
As to actual vacuuming, it did OK. Trying it out for the first time, I laid out some crumbs in two areas. In one area, it picked up most of them; but in the other area, it picked up a few and scattered the rest. When the vac got to the area rug, it would turn around and not even attempt to clean it. This has never been an issue for other vacs. Lastly, it still bumps into furniture, walls, etc. even after having run the same area several times.
Upstairs on the carpet, other than the noise (muted somewhat by the carpet) and bumping, it did an OK vacuuming job. The one feature that worked very well is its ability to avoid going over the cliff and falling down the stairs.
Finally, emptying the dust bin is a bit awkward. There is more to the process than removing the bin and shaking it out.
Though the 981 does a fair job overall, though it’s overshadowed by loudness and spotty effectiveness.

I have had many robot vacs over the years, and this by far seems to be the smartest one yet, and it looks good as well. Unpacking is simple with quality packaging.
It vacuums the entire floor leaving the edges last. It does tend to get hung up on corners of rugs, but thats difficult for any vacuum. A little carpet tape seems to do the trick. It finds it's base with zero problems instead of wondering around till the battery dies like most robot vacuums. Cleaning the dust container is a cinch. I like how it automatically adjust power when transitioning from carpet to tile or wood and back to carpet again.
However with all those great things I can't get it to connect to the app, I've tried everything. There are so many great features that are included in the app. Not having that option is frustrating. The vacuum can still be used without the app by pressing the button on the bot. Connecting to the app is an issue with many iRobots though, I have experiencedthis as well as others I've known.
Get that fixed and I think its the best one to date.

Very Cool Vacuum But Still Some Work

I have always been curious about Roomba Vacuums. I mean it sounds like a great concept. A robotic vacuum that will vacuum my house seems like it would be a great time saver. After using the Roomba, it is cool, but it just creates a different set of things to worry about.
Out of the box, there is a bit of a setup involved. You likely will not be able to pull it out of the box and let it go. I had to go through the manual setup of the unboxing, finding a place to put it, plugging it in, and letting it charge for several hours before it was ready. On top of that, there is an app for your smartphone that needs to be downloaded and setup. The app is used to connect to the Roomba and tell it when to be used. You can tell the Roomba to run on demand or at specific times.
After everything was ready to go, I turned the Roomba loose. It is actually very interesting to watch the Roomba work. It methodically comes of the base and immediately begins to work. It moves in a straight line until it detects an object such as a wall or furniture. It then works its way around the object while covering the whole floor. It begins to map out everything. It also remembers where it has been, so it doesn’t just go over the same area again and again. I found the Roomba does a good job of transitioning from hardwood to carpet and back. The carpet really did not slow the Roomba down. When the job is done, the Roomba remembers exactly where the base is, and returns itself to the base for charging.
In being ready for the Roomba to work, you might want to make your areas Roomba-proof. If you have an area such as a room you want the Roomba to stay out of, you need to make sure that room is shut. If the door is open, Roomba will find it. Also, if you have any cords such as electric cords from a lamp, the Roomba may run over them. Just something to consider when you select when and where the Roomba should work. Also, if you have pets, it may scare them. Golden retriever puppies may fear the Roomba. May sure the puppy has gone out before using the Roomba or there may be liquid on the floor to clean up.
Aside from making the house Roomba proof, the Roomba receptacle is not as big as a conventional vacuum cleaner. It will fill up quickly. You likely will have to empty this every cleaning, especially if you are cleaning large areas. As a result, the Roomba may not be well suited for large one-story houses as the Roomba may fill up before finishing the job.
In the end, the Roomba is a very cool device. The Roomba does a good job of cleaning the floor without the work of doing it yourself. You still must empty the receptacle and make sure that everything is out of the way. The Roomba also operates at a slower pace than a manual vacuum. With the Roomba picking up cords and everything else, you may need to supervise it, so you must see if it works well for your situation. I still recommend the Roomba to people. It does a great job for what it is designed to do.

Perfect kitten fur cleaner

My wife finally caved in and let my daughter add a new member to the family that we can keep indoors. A little kitten has now made her home in my daughter's room. With the addition of a furry creature comes furry floors and in comes the iRobot Roomba 981 to save the day.
At the beginning, my daughter was vacuuming manually and was getting tired of doing what she's supposed to do - take care of the pet and the environment the cat was living in. So, to help her out a bit the Roomba resides in her room. The room is about 20'x26' so it's a nice size space for the kitty and the daughter (honestly I don't know which sheds worse!). We downloaded the app and got everything set up and let the Roomba do it's thing.
Since it's an active playroom for the kitty, things move around a lot. Because of that it gets stuck quite a few times, but I can't blame the Roomba for it. If the room were static like a more normal room there wouldn't be issues. Because of this the Roomba is only used manually by pressing the button and letting it roam and rescuing it when it gets stuck on of the kitty's toys.
Performance was better than I expected. While it's not corded vacuum level suction, it does extremely well and makes up for it by vacuuming more often without much work from one of us. So the trade off of getting to be lazy makes up for giving up some suction, which is probably easier on the carpet anyways.
The Roomba came at the perfect time to fit the need of cleaning up after a kitty. Definite timesaver for my little girl, who loves her cat.

I have had older models of the Roomba and always appreciated how well they worked. I would schedule to run overnight and forget about them. They did their thing, and I had clean floors and carpets in the morning
When it was time to replace the current one, I went a step up with the Wi-Fi connected model just because I could
I have a 125# Mastif in the house at all times, so dog hair (the thick needley kind) is a priority. This breed does shed some, but it a thick short hair that will penetrate and stick to everything
Unboxing and set-up was simple and the app definitely made a difference this time. Literally took me 5 minutes to have it ready to go. Of course the app was ready once I decided on the model but before I picked it up
It did it’s thing later and made quick work of the dust and dog hair on the floor. No issues and the dust bin proved that it worked
I am not surprised with the job that it did, since our prior one worked well, and Roomba has an excellent reputation. This one only seemed even better

It won’t lay-off the rugs. You watch it as it goes goes over and think your in the clear and the next time it goes over the same corner it won’t stop or let go. Even heavier rugs aren’t safe.
