Far better than your average FM transmitter

I've owned a handful of FM transmitters over the years, starting with the commonplace SoundFeeder line of products, and more recently the Belkin TuneCast. A common complaint of these transmitters is the sound quality of the transmission. Usually it's far too quiet, with lots of static, and the stereo separation is practically nonexistent. Top that with the difficulty of finding a clear station in your area as you travel, and you're left with a slightly better than useless device. The iSimple Jamcast is a completely different experience. I picked one of these up, and within 2 minutes of having the box open, I had it hooked up to my Palm Pre, listening to my music and podcasts with near-perfect clarity in my car. Stereo separation was far beyond what I expected from a plug-in device, and when the music was turned off, the transmission was static-free. Setup is simple as can be. Just turn it on and hold the two outer buttons to start scanning for clear stations. About a minute later, it sets your memory slots to 4 stations in your area that will make excellent candidates for use. The longer-than-usual cords also make it easy to use no matter where you sit in the vehicle. Anyone who's been frustrated with the low quality of FM transmitters would be well advised to pick one of these up.

At first I was very happy with this product. I loved the fact that it had a separate USB port to charge any device while listening to music, and the fact that it had an auto scan feature (a feature that was lacking in my old itrip that I've been using constantly for about 11 years until the cord finally gave). The sound quality was about as good as expected - I drive a car from 96 in a city that has no vacant channels and so some static over my music is the norm. The problem that I encountered and what will lead me to return this device and look for something else is the fact that it doesn't automatically turn on when my car does, and it doesn't stay at the last frequency that I was listening to. My work involves me driving around and stopping at various places, and to have to listen to the loud sound of static and whatever distorted sound of the station that was coming through when I turn on my car was irritating. I would then have to manually turn on the FM Transmitter and then scroll through to the third preset (the channel I found to work the best) every time I started my car back up. I would love this device if it only turned on automatically and if it stayed on the same channel that it turned off on.

I went in looking to buy a cable set to be installed into my 2005 Cadillac CTS. Unfortunately, they didn't have the hardware in stock, so I settled for this product. After deliberation with the Best Buy employee, I rolled the dice (knowing they have a 30-day return policy if it was awful). I played with it a bit and found a station that was fuzzy (88.3 if you live in DFW, TX). I learned that you cannot have the volume on your ipod up the entire way or else the sound quality is horrible. I have my ipod volume to around 50% and the product works very well. I used to own one of the more expensive FM transmitters (Belkin, I think), which broke. I am surprisingly, and happily, satisfied with this product.

Works just as it should, if you have common sense.

This works perfectly for me. I bought it, followed the directions (let it pick the stations), and it worked like a charm! I live in a city, and if I drive 20-30min out into the county, I sometimes have to change a station, but once I change it, it works perfectly again. I agree with other reviewers not to turn up the volume on your iPod all the way, or the sound will break up, otherwise the sound is good. It's just what you'd expect coming from "a radio station". Of course the sound isn't going to be as good as it would be from a CD or if you had a AUX plug directly in your car stereo, but the sound quality is better than a regular radio station. For the technology, I don't think you could get any better. I have a 2006 Toyota Camry.

The product itself is great. For $40 and instant connectivity over FM, this device takes the cake. It plugs right into your cigarette lighter and provides an extra USB connection to charge your device of choice with a user supplied USB cable. The transmitter module has three user adjustable and programmable channels. I have FM2 on my receiver set up to correspond with my 3 stored FM transmit frequencies on the stock receiver. The 3.5mm audio plug (this plugs into your headphone jack on your media device) is not the best, this is the only con. The jack must be inserted so that it makes good contact, it only does so if it is inserted one of a few ways. It's not difficult to find the sweet spot, but 1 out of 3 times I have to re-adjust the plug from the transmitter that goes inside the audio jack on my phone. The perks of going with a $40

This product worked fine. For 2 months. Then it completely fell apart. Literally. The part that plugs in came completely apart one day when I was pulling it out and was rendered useless. But having no other option, I decided to shuck out another $45 a got another one. I still have that one and use it almost daily, but it's a constant headache. The signal strength is pretty decent, but it can be difficult to find more than two clear frequencies in the city. It's almost as loud as the normal radio with my phon . However The jack is extremely sensitive and will turn off if bumped, and it has major feed back when plugged into a phone that is charging. I recommend finding a better alternative. This is not worth the almost $50 price tag.

I live in the DC Metro area, where radioradio stations are plentiful. With other fm transmitters, it was always a pain to have to constantly adjust to a clearer frequency. When I initially plugged in the Jamkast, the presets out of the box noticeably cut through the stations with a good, but staticy signal. After using the scan ability, the clarity was excellent! Very easy to use, and handy that it keeps 4 presets. The only thing I don't like is the control module itself. It is physically really small, the screen even smaller, and it feels rather fragile. I hope the build quality is enough for it to last awhile. Overall, I do feel it was a decent buy, and great alternative to shelling out money to get a new head unit with an auxiliary input installed.

I always wait to write reviews to make sure the product is reliable before telling others to buy it, and thank goodness I do that. I bought this aux cord at the start of July and 2 months later it is out of commission. First the cord would only work if I wrapped it around my phone so that it was positioned just right (annoying) but now it won't play my music at all (also annoying). Very frustrating as this product cost 40$. I am a college student and treated myself to be able to listen to what I want while in my car but now I feel as if I threw 40$ out the window. Do not buy this product unless you have enough money to repeatedly replace it.

I read some of the reviews before I bought this device and came close to returning it. Out of the box, the signal was not clear at all and I did hear a hissing sound frequently. Before I took it back, I felt I better read the instructions and try to tune it per instructions first. I am glad i did. After having the device seek out the strongest 5 channels it has worked very well for the past few months. I use it locally and on weekend road trips. It works great in both settings - no static or hissing noise - just clear music

The JamKast works great. The auto-tune feature that finds the best stations to use for the FM Transmitter works much better than other products I have tried. Even when driving around Downtown Denver, it had no problem finding frequencies to broadcast on with my Zune HD. Of the 4 frequencies it chose, 3 were excellent connections. Very simple to use, and good sound quality. Does what it should. I just wish it had an extra USB port like other FM Transmitters so I could charge a phone or media player while this one is occupying the 12v plug in. Overall I am happy with the purchase.

I get tired of talk shows. Especially on long drives. I'd rather listen to a good audiobook. Which I can now do, thankfully, from the comfort of my old car that doesn't have bluetooth. I can play it from my mp3 player or smartphone, and avoid listening to DJs rant about mundane stuff, or listen to commercials that I don't care about. And if I tire of my audiobooks, I can listen to my music, stuff that I'd want to listen to. From my phone. via a radio. Our founding fathers would be dumbfounded by this technology. (And feminism too, likely, now that I think about it). (Reminder to self: look for an audiobook that exposes founding fathers to technology. And feminism.)

I read all the reviews before buying this and a few of them were pretty bad. They mentioned poor build quality (not sure what they're talking about, the build quality is excellent) and some said that it didn't work very well. So for someone that's had more than two of these i can to tell you that it is by far the most powerful FM transmitter i've used, as a result you have very little noise or interference. The other two devices were not like that, i always had to look for a clearer channel, one of them just didn't work at all and it was the most expensive one. Buy this right now because its an excellent product for a very inexpensive price.

This was a great “quick fix” to be able to play recordings from my phone on the car radio, as well as stream I❤️Radio. Device searches for a clear frequency and then broadcasts your phone to the car radio. If you run navigation on the phone, it will automatically override whatever you’re playing. There can be some static, but great value for the price. Plus, unlike installing a new radio with USB, you can take this device with you to plug in to rental cars, friends’ cars, etc., as long as there’s a cigarrette lighter.

The iSimple Jamcast unit works well, transmitting cleanly and clearly. The search function for open frequencies works well to avoid broadcast stations as you travel. Two points reduce my rating to 4 stars from 5: the power port for the unit does not include a USB charging port on the back of the power plug so you need two power ports to both play audio from and charge your portable device; and as is common, the audio plug housing has difficulty fitting through a case port. Neither of these limitations are deal breakers since the unit works as well as it does, but it would be even more useful if both were resolved.

These devices are generally not that user friendly. Many factors go into this. If you are using the device, you likely have an older vehicle. I am more likely to use it if I'm going on a long trip but as far as using it daily? The stations do not consistently come in that clear and the music can be suddenly static. But when it works well, there is nothing like playing your favorite playlist in your car. Doesn't seem like it is worth $40 but I guess it gets the job done.. just requires a little patience and basic understanding of how an FM transmitter works.

Avoid the new model with USB

I had one of the old models of this product without the USB port and loved it! The quality was incredible and it lasted an entire year before breaking when I closed it in the car door. I promptly went out to buy a new one and was very happy to see the new ones came with a built in USB port! Unfortunately to my dismay, after 2 weeks of use this model has proven to have very poor sound quality, despite using the same channel as the old one I had, and trying multiple other channels. It appears they may have taken some power from the built in antenna in order to accommodate the USB port. Not good.

I should have done what you are doing now. I should have read online reviews. Instead, I bought this on-sale item (still expensive) and thought, "Surely, at this price, it'll work great!" It doesn't. I get constant feedback when it is connected. I have tried the presets, made my own, made sure it wasn't touching anything, made sure that the channels were not too powerful and that I tried unused frequencies. It does not work properly. Worst of all, I mounted it with the provided sticky pad before testing. My mistake. Don't let it be yours.

I bought this on the advice of the awesome wacky associate that recommended it. He said this is the only one that doesn't get returned regularly. He even gave me a good frequency for the city we're in. The things not feature packed; there's no microphone, it's not Bluetooth, but the one job that i bought it for, being able to play my music, it's spectacular. Little to no interference, and it automatically comes on with the car. Just push play on my old iPhone and boom. Who needs an aux when this is available?

Horrible product. First, you have to turn the transmitter on every time you turn your car on or switch from different audio source. Second, It also will stop connecting to iPhone and start transmitting 'fuzz' if you don't have music playing (for ex if you are on the phone when it's hooked up, the transmitter will start playing loud fuzz during your phone call). Third, it is poorly manufactured. The plastic covering came off, which eventually resulted in the product not working at all. I would never recommend this product to anyone.

This product cost almost $50 but it really works wonderfully. My internet radio app on my phone sounds better on the car radio speakers. I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to set it up pretty easily. It works using the power plug in the car if you do not have an aux plug. Then you put on your app and plug the cord into the earphone jack on your phone. Then you press the scan button on the transmitter and it will show you the best fm channel to turn to. It is really fun to use when things work well like this.
