I regret to hear that you were not pleased with this multi adapter. This adapter will seem warmer that other electronic devices that you may be used to due to its aluminum casing. The aluminum will transfer more heat away from the internal components. A plastic case will act as a thermal insulator keeping the heat generated by the internal components inside of the device.
In the event that the device is defective and overheating we back our products with a two year limited warranty. We appreciate your feedback.

Hi Harry, devices that are built with compactness and portability in mind, is expected to observe that the aluminum shell of the USB-C hub gets warmer, especially if the USB-C pass-through charging and/or all ports on the hub are utilized. I'm really sorry to hear about this! We do expect that the device will get warm to moderately hot, but this is well within normal ranges. Our device has been stress tessed and we have found that the average max opeational temperature for this product is ~106 °F / 41 °C, this is also while the adapter is under a full load or is being used continuously for >~ 1hr.Please remember that ambient temperatures can also affect the unit as well as your computer. Manufacturer's recommend that computers be used where the temperature is between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C)." If you are finding that your device is exceeding the average temperature of 135 °F/57 °C, for periods > 30 minutes, it may be defective and we'd be more than happy to help with an exchange. The USB-C Multi Adapter (9 Functions in 1) requires a computer to support "DisplayPort Alt Mode" for video out and "Power Delivery" for pass-through charge over USB-C. Without these features, this device will not function correctly. I'm so sorry to hear about the troubles that you've been having with your device.

This device will get warm to moderately hot but this is within normal limits. We have done stress testing on it and have found that the average temperature for this adapter is ~106 °F / 41 °C, while the adapter is under a full load or is being used continuously for >~ 1hr.

Remember that ambient temperatures can also affect the adapter's temperature as well as what the computer will operate at. Both Apple and PC manufacturers recommend that you use your computer where the ambient temperatures are between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C).

Some tips for managing the temperature: Make sure that you're using the latest software updates and that the firmware is up to date. Your computer should only be used where the ambient temperature is between 50° and 95° F (10° and 35° C). Don't leave your computer in your car because temperatures can exceed this, especially in the summer! m

In testing our device, we have found that most computers will run the adapter at a temperature of ~100 °F / 37.78 °C to ~140 °F / 60.00 °C, while the computer is under full-load or being used continuously for periods >~ 1hr.


If you are finding that your device is running hotter than the average temperature of 135 °F/57 °C, for periods > 30 minutes, your product may be faulty and may be needing to be replaced. We haven't found that it runs at anything higher than 112°F/44 °C, for periods <10 minutes under normal circumstances.

Hello,
This adapter will seem hotter than you would expect due to its aluminum construction. The aluminum will draw heat from the internal electronic components where plastic would act as an insulator keeping the heat internal to the device. This is actually something that Apple talks about and requires that their external drive only be used with their products, https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201788 This talks about its need to be connected directly and https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202665 is some more information about their drive. I do apologize for the inconvenience, but I hope that you've been able to get up and running

I'm terribly sorry to hear the JCD383 is overheating and not always working. In such situations, we recommend calling in to speak with a rep and they will gladly diagnose, troubleshoot and if necessary offer an exchange under the manufacturer's two year warranty.
