Phones offer a free 12-month subscription to UA's map my run which I use daily. They also offer a cool heart rate option; however the discomfort of the buds and lack of volume made these buds a "do not recommend" item. Especially for the price

They work very well and these stay on my ears when I work out, the heart monitor is a little finicky but otherwise work great! I don't cross fit excercise so I can't confirm how they work in those situations.

The Under Armour heart rate wireless earbuds is definitely a unique set up and the first in ear heart rate monitor i have ever tried. So lets talk about some of the features that set it apart. First off not too much differs from most wireless around the neck style earbuds. The UA ear buds come with various bud inserts to fit all ear sizes. The control tab allows for call answering, volume control and the ability to skip tracks. UA claims about 5 hours on a full charge which in my opinion is pretty low. I got roughly a little over 5 hours of use, but that was with limited heart rate playback and medium volume settings. The sound quality coming out of the earbuds is decent. After all these are JBL headsets so you should expect clear and crisp audio which is exactly what it delivers. The bass quality was average, I personally have other ear buds with better sounding bass so if bass is what your after don't expect this headset to blow you out of the water. It's not terrible by any means it's just not jaw dropping. Now one of the features that makes this style unique is the twist in locking function of the headset. Simply rotate the ear buds backwards and they twist lock in to place making jogging or running worry free without the hassle of them falling out. Believe me, when they twist in to place they definitely feel more secure then any earbud i have worn. Now where this wireless headset really shines in my opinion is the heart rate and workout tracker. This earbud set up allows for your heart rate to be taken directly through the ear canal. I have to be honest, i was very skeptical as to how accurate this would actually be. I spend alot of time at the gym so while working out i had a chest rate monitor and a watch wrist monitor and compared all 3 of them together. During my workout i saw maybe only a 3 beat difference from my ear bud heart rate monitor compared to my other two heart rate monitors. Personally i found this pretty impressive and reliable enough to go off of. So how does it work? Actually its simple, while working out simply hold or press the button on the right ear bud and a voice will come through the headset telling you where your current heart rate is. This feature eliminates the need to look at your phone or any other monitor you may have. Now this does need to be linked up to your cell phone or other such bluetooth device you may use for fitness. Now if you don't have a workout program or you are new to fitness, Under Armour offers a free 12 month trial of their fitness software. While its not the best i've seen it is still very good and easy to use. It will track and record heart rate monitor, steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned and much more. Whats pretty cool is there is a feedback coach that will let you know when you have reached your peak performance and encourage you to keep pushing yourself. One thing i forgot to mention is this unit is sweat and moisture proof. Simply put its perfect for working out not so good for taking in the shower. Over all this is an awesome unit and a must for any avid runner or fitness buff. Though there are a few features i dislike it is not enough to detour me from recommend this product as a good buy. pros: -Good sound quality -Twist lock earbuds for secure mounting -Simple touch heart rate feedback -12 month UA premium membership Cons: -5 hour batter life -Average sounding bass

Overall these are great headphones. The design and features are primarily catered to the average athlete but they are also great for casual use around the office or home when viewing media. I did have an issue with the first pair of headphones that I received but JBL handled it with prompt resolve. I'll talk about that at the end of the review. In terms of sound quality, the lows, mids, and highs are crisp. Do not expect deep bass with these headphones. As a result, I would say that the dance genre wouldn't be a listening strong point on these headphones. I personally prefer a little more bass for dance and hip hop. The good thing though is that you won't ever run into the problem of muddy bass overpowering the vocals or mids. The sound is very well balanced and overall produces respectable sound quality. One thing I wasn't too keen on was the design of how these headphones go over your ear. There's a bit of a learning curve in getting these headphones to stay in your ear. You have to essentially "twist lock" them into place so they don't fall out. Once you get used to putting them on this way you shouldn't have a problem. I presume that JBL went this route to ensure a tight fit for the active athlete. I do like that JBL included multiple ear bud sizes for the best fit. I worked out with these headphones multiple times and took them on several runs and they never fell out of my ears. Thumbs up JBL! The pairing process and setup was extremely easy. I paired the headphones to my phone then downloaded the UA record app. The UA record app is basically a dashboard of statistical information for your daily goals and progress. This is useful for the more serious athlete. The hear rate sensor worked flawlessly for me. You simply launch the UA record app, select "Sync" and choose your headphones. This turns on the hear rate sensor on. During my work outs I simply tapped the right earbud and the headphones told me my heart's bpm. The only thing that I didn't like was that you have to use the UA record app in order to get heart rate sensor readings. Not a big deal but would have been nice to include this as a built-in feature into the headphone's internal software. As mentioned in the beginning of my review, out of the box I did have an issue with the first pair of headphones that I received. The right ear bud had a blown driver. Upon operation, the audio and bass was completely distorted only out of the right ear bud. I contacted JBL and they immediately handled the issue replacing the earbud with overnight shipping. I was blown away with how fast they resolved the issue. The second set of headphones did not have this issue. Rest assured that if you have any issues with your headphones JBL seems to be pretty quick with taking care of their customers. I have absolutely enjoyed these headphones for my workouts and casual use around the office. My sweat on the headphones has not been an issue either. They have good sound quality and I can rest assured that they will easily handle some of my most rigorous and enduring workouts.

At first sight these ear phones have a sporty UA design that is in line with everything UA, definitely a plus. The packaging is simple and comes with four different size ear enhancers for the perfect fit. Also there is a micro USB charging cable but no wall adapter which is no big deal because most people probably have several of these laying around. Lastly there is a nice silicon carrying case that is big enough to effectively carry both the headphones and charging cable. The headphones have a twist lock design that I was skeptical of at first but it really works. These twistlock enhancers are very secure in your ears and will not fall out under the most vigorous work outs. The silicon enhancers themselves are very difficult to change out over the earbuds though especially for someone with big hands. It took me awhile to change the size and I tore one of them slightly as they are very delicate in areas... be careful when changing them! It takes a little getting used to when wearing the headphones at first because of twistlock design enhancers... they feel a bit big but are not uncomfortable. Just make sure you try all sizes to get the right fit. The loop over the ear feels good and the behind the neck wire is not over burdensome even though it could have been about an inch or so longer. It does have a small clip in the center of the wire to clip to your shirt to give you the extra sense of security that you will not lose the headphones if they come off, which I doubt they will. The sound quality is good. The lows are not very loud if you want that hard hitting bass but the mids and highs are exceptional. I personally prefer a good mid range to hear all the vocals and music at the same time. The overall volume is ok, it could be louder but is definitely enough to get the job done. The heart rate monitor is almost gimmicky because it only works when the UA app is open. However it is convenient if you use the app during a workout because you just tap the right earbud and it gives a voice readout of your heart rate. Not sure how much I will use this feature as I use an activity watch to do this. The free one year MapMyRun membership is a plus for the price of the headphones. Bluetooth connectivity is good, nothing special there. The in line control on the headphones could use some help as it is not located in a good place and you can barely feel the difference in the buttons. I usually don't use the inline control anyway so it will be a personal preference. Battery life I think is sub par and average at best having a maximum of 5 hours of life. The standby life is sufficient as I had it sit for a few days and then put them on and the life was pretty much where I left it. Overall, these JBL headphones are a good buy for the active person wanting a great secure fit with good sound. Not so much for the person wanting headphones for everyday music listening....

For the price, you would expect something GREAT! They are priced the same as other top tier Bluetooth headsets I need not mention. I will be trying to give a fair and unbiased review since I own some other ear buds that are better than these. Design and Fit (4/5) -------------------- These look great and feel good after finding the right ear-tips. I love the color scheme of red/black. The UA logo is displayed in a good place. When wearing these, make sure you "twist" them into place or they will feel REALLY uncomfortable if you just put them in like traditional ear buds. Sweat proofing is always a plus. Charging port is in a great place (on controls rather than on ear bud itself) although the charge port cover worries me it will break one day. Heart-rate sensor is in the ball park give or take 5 bpm. The length between the two ear buds are shorter than others I have used measuring around 12 inches. 4/5 stars on design and fit. Features (4/5) ------------ In ear heart rate monitor Touch right ear bud to get heart rate Sweat proof Twist-lock 1 year of Map UA Record Custom Coaching (if you use it) Solid built quality 4/5 on features. Battery (4/5) ---------- Battery life is decent. I was able to get 4-6 hours depending on heart rate use and volume. Constant heart rate monitoring severely effected battery life almost cutting it in half. I could see maybe running a half marathon with this on if you are under 2 hours finish time. Without heart rate monitoring always on, there is more than enough to run or workout with. 4/5 stars Sound/Performance (3/5) --------------------------- So this is a sore spot for me where I wish it would have been better. Ear tip selection is crucial to finding great sound and comfort. I used Spotify Premium with extreme quality setting to test sound for these. The sound is bass heavy and often out of balance. Either you will get great bass and little to no highs/mids or the other way around. I rarely had a perfect balance of sound. These buds lack in the mid and high ranges. Highs are not clear and I often hear crackling in place of instruments like symbols and other sounds like that. Power/volume is very poor. If you like to listen to your music loud, these are not for you. Not much power out of these. They almost feel like sound is limited to protect the listener (not impeded by my phone). I tried various EQ settings on my phone and even tried creating custom settings to no avail. With my S7 edge, after using the Adapt Sound feature sound quality was greatly improved. If you don't have a Samsung or the ability to customize sound for your hearing, you may think these aren't great ear buds. 3/5 stars Call Quality/Performance (4/5) ---------------------------------- Callers didn't notice I was on Bluetooth. This should be expected these days with technology where it is. Callers sound great in stereo sound. You can control volume and begin/end call from the controls. I was able to get roughly 20-25ft from my phone before quality was degraded. No gripes here. 4/5 stars. Verdict (3.8/5) --------- 3.8/5 stars. These are good ear buds if you like the heart rate functionality and the free 1 year membership to MapMyRun ($30 value). If you take out the $30 subscription, these would be priced good. Overall I would recommend them. Give them a try, if you don't like them you can always return them. If you are an audiophile you may want to try other ear buds. If you are not a runner or do not care to monitor your heart rate, save some money and get cheaper ear buds that sound better.
