I purchased this Blu-ray based on Entertainment Weekly recommendation. Saying it was a better than average film for Nic Cage compared to what he's been making lately. I agree with that. Though not a show stopper it was still worth a watch. It's overall context and story was good and mildly moving. And yet, it's southern charm was a little over the top for me. The strongest example of that being, a man was butchering a deer in the middle of his living room. So it's a bit rednecky but also a new environment change for us to view from our own living room, minus the dead deer.

A Gritty and Suspenseful Indie flick in Southern backwoods style. Tye Sheridan proves again he's not just on his way to bigger and better, he has arrived. And how refreshing it is see Nicolas Cage act... Really act. First stellar performance by Cage in over a decade. You can feel the emotions of the characters as they wrestle with demons from the past, and the adversity of the present. Passion and fury are necessary ingredients here, and you can feel every morsel of both emanating from Cage's character, Joe.

David Gordon Green crafts yet another great southern drama with spot-on dialogue and amazing performances abound in this creepy, moving story that sucks you right in. Bought this as an impulse purchase and I'm glad I did. Not very often am I a Nicolas Cage fan, but he does a great job in this, along with the rest of the cast.

Joe is not the most pleasant experience you'll have watching a movie, but that doesn't mean it isn't a very good film. Don't go in expecting another "crazy" Nicolas Cage performance - you won't get that - but as a slow boiling, emotionally loaded drama, it's up there in the list of best movies of 2014. It's frequently on sale, so if that sounds like your cup of tea, pick Joe up.

The movie has a haunting atmosphere and the drama is so rich that it is hard to remain emotionally detached to the story. It is a powerful and honest drama, one of the best from 2014. Nicholas Cage is brilliant in this as well as the rest of the cast.

This movie was a little hard to get into. I tried watching it twice and it still didn't grab my attention. Usually Nicholas Cage plays in good and intriguing movies. Not this one. I'll attempt to watch again in the future.

Great Movie. Gripping and engrossing atmosphere and acting from beginning to end. At times, Nick's character was appalling but the friendship and compassion he builds with the boy wins you over.

movie begins slow and uninteresting. as movie progresses, the action increases and the plot provides increased drama and intensifies as the end draws to an end with a sad ending. good acting.

Nick Cage delivers another fine performance as a man battling his own inner demons while attempting to help a young man out of an unfortunate family life. Strongly acted, genuinely portrayed.

Nicholas Cage portrays Joe, a man who tries to do the right thing and seems to get drawn into trouble anyway/. This is a movie that really makes you concentrate.

This movie has to rank with Cage's out of the main stream movies. Do not go in expecting to see the National Cage but more the Lost Cage, Still a good movie

Once in a while, Nicholas Cage still puts out a good movie which reminds us that when it's not about the money he could be a very good actor.

I really enjoyed this movie. I think Nicolas Cage did an excellent performance. Sad at in the beginning but good plot overall.

This movie was good. I liked the relationship between the two main characters.

Nicholas Gage is at his acting best, he has developed this character to the point that the viewer is totally enthralled with the plot and characters. Its a great come back story about an abused boy being helped and guided by an ex-con trying to live his life as best as he can.
