Works to allow new Apple TV to have an optical out

Drove back to Best Buy to ask salesman if an adapter was available. He checked with others there and they concluded nothing available. looked on-line and found this on their web-site. It works and it's an easy hook up even though the instructions that come with it are completely lacking.

If you have a PS4 Slim this is for you!

Sony decided to remove the optical out of the slim version so it make it difficult to connect my Astro a50s. I remember it saying it was for Apple TV but it works great on the PS4 slim.

Fast forward to now and I wanted a sound bar in my bedroom where the tv is for better sound quality. Didn’t realize the tv didn’t have an optics input on it. And soundbars nowadays don’t have the older jacks on them. This device connects directly into my Apple TV and works like a charm. I’m not a fan of the extra cable but this saved me from buying another tv.

Doesn't work properly

There were some apps with NO sound at all, others with certain background sounds and other worked fine. The remote also started to mess up. I was not able to use all the buttons on the remote.

No optical out...no problem!

Was super excited until i found out there was no optical OUT for surround sound. My receiver only has an optical audio IN for surround sound. So it was either get new surround sound system or live with the tv speakers audio. Saw this item and even though its description says its for apple tv, i thought for $40 i would give it a try. Glad to say it works perfectly. Now i can enjoy games and movies in dolby 5.1 with this adapter and my existing surround sound system from the ps4.
