Great blu-ray of the big KONG package that WB issued in 2005. Image quality and sound have improved significantly. The commentary in still terrific and the extras are truly phenomenal. Still missing is a the Criterion laser disc package with a wonderful commentary track by Ronald Haver. I've had that since 1985. That was featured on the Criterion Channel, recently, which made me think that they might re-issue it on modern media. At that time, I didn't know that the Warner set had been released. So, it was pleasant surprise to find it. So, for fans of the original, this is a bonanza!

Although this movie icon has seem many incarnations the original in glorious black and white is still the best. Great acting and amazing effects for the time. The airplanes didn't kill Kong it was beauty who killed the beast.

The transfer to blu-ray is remarkable considering the movie was produced in 1933. To this day, it's still my favorite version of King Kong.

King Kong is a timeless cinematic classic, and it looks amazing on this Blu-ray. This is the full, uncut version. It's great.

Great re-issue of a classic movie, a much improved version of a classic flick.

King Kong Shines the brightest on this version. The price cannot be beat, either.

What makes the original so great is that it is, plain-and-simply put - a Monster Movie. Kong is not a sympathetic character! He is a beast (in the classic sense of the word). All subsequent films from the 1960's forward have gotten it wrong by interjecting political commentary into the original tight story-telling. This usually takes the form of extreme environmental messaging within the film, such as: humanity is evil / western civilization is the enemy of nature / all nature is good / capitalism is inherently bad / etc. Thankfully, none of this nonsense is present in the original King Kong. Most of the human characters in this movie are: noble, brave, and self-sacrificing. Nature (and Kong) are realistically depicted as wild and potentially very dangerous. It is a fast-paced survival, adventure movie (oh, yeah) with Giant Monsters! That is why it is so great. P.S. The restoration looks fantastic on blu-ray.

I am very happy that this film received a good Blu-ray release. It's a great classic that deserves to be enjoyed by yet another generation of film fans.

If you're interested in early American creature feature films..Look no further. I don't have time to explain plot or AV specifics, just trust me, for a movie that came out in 1933 it looks & sounds as good as it possibly get! My only complaint is that they could have made a couple of new updated featurettes or new Commentary considering most of the extras are from previous releases, but the extras that are present are still amazing & insightful.

It's the original King Kong movie, Classic! But I got my $7.99 worth just by watching the lost spider scene that was cut from the original movie, but Peter Jackson and his crew recreated as close as possible to the original screen play and creating new models to make the stop-motion effects and edit back together with original footage! I'm not talking about the scene fro the new movie, they actually shot a sequence to match the original movie!

I don't think I have to defend the merits of this movie, so we'll skip all that and go right to the special features, which are fantastic. I'm not sure how much more anyone could need to know about this movie after splurging on the extras, and I give major props to Peter Jackson and his team for their contributions, even though I kind of abhorred their remake . . . but that's another story entirely. Oh, and the movie looks and sounds better than ever. If you're a fan, buy this!

I ordered the 1933 King Kong online and selected in store pickup. Almost immediately I received an e-mail it was ready for pickup. The store personel were friendly and I got my product quickly. The movie was great. The bonus of $8 in movie money to see the current king kong movie was an excellent added incentive. The movie itself was a great print.

I finally found the original King Kong on BluRay. I remember as a kid growing up in the 60's watching it on tv & how it thrilled us. As an adult it funny to see "how fake or phony" it looks but it s a true classical still! If you're like me and remember watching it as a kid I would buy to relive your youth.

What can you say about King Kong other than it's the greatest monster movie of all time. This blu-ray release is loaded with extras and is the best presentation of this classic film you'll see. That a film from 1933 holds up so well today, including its groundbreaking f/x, is a testament to how great it is.

If it wasn't for the Blu-ray remake, I doubt if this movie would have been as good as it is. It's copyrighted 1933 so you know it should be very fuzzy or grainy now. But the Blu-ray really fixes it up and makes it look almost like a new black and white.

King Kongs blu debut is an older encode that still look marvelous. Included are a lot of special features, but keep in mind they are disproportionately Peter Jackson heavy, but still some great history. A franchise this significant should have a bigger, more professional package but for the price we can forgive the big hairy lug.

Saw this on sale several weeks ago and seriously regretted not picking it up, so was seriously grateful when the staff was able to locate the one remaining copy. Original Kong, on bluray, with tons of special features; what's not to love?
