cracked chipping enamel in 6 months

    Posted .

I bought this oven 7 months ago. One month ago I noticed that the enamel was cracking and flaking off in the upper oven. The upper oven is used minimally - I prefer to use the convection oven in the bottom (wish they were both convection). I called to ask about warranty coverage and was told that enamel is "cosmetic" and not covered. If I want to talk with a service technician to confirm this, I will have to pay for the call. I am unbelievably disappointed in the poor quality of this appliance, and the lack of service provided by KitchenAid (charging me for a phone call?!). This is supposedly a high end appliance - one of three KitchenAid appliances that I purchased together - a purchase that I very much regret at this point. The enamel protects the rest of the oven - without enamel, the rest of the oven is exposed to moisture/food/etc. Enamel is not cosmetic - it serves a function. Of course, by the time the function of the oven itself is compromised because of the cracked enamel and related damage, my warranty will be expired. My last oven was a Jenn-Air and I never had a problem with it for 10 years - I wish I had brought my 10 year old Jenn-Air to our new house - I'm sure it would have worked longer than my brand new KitchenAid.

This is a MAJOR improvement over electric.

We also own the electric flat-top version of this range. The ovens on this unit and its electric predecessor are FANTASTIC. I LOVE the convection baking option on the lower oven. Very even baking. I much prefer the gas range top over the electric range top of its predecessor. The gas top allows you to very finely adjust cooking temps.

Really like the look of this oven. I like the top oven. Convenient. Haven’t tried the convection oven yet, mostly use the top oven. Burners could be better however, since only one front burner is adjustable. One large burner in front is for large pots only. Would have been better to have two adjustable burners. Glass top harder to clean than my old Maytag oven, don’t know why that is.

Good oven, glass cooktop is just ok.

have had this oven for over 12 months now, and am satisfied with the quality. It is very convenient to have 2 ovens. The top oven does seem to cook faster than expected - I have been meaning to get an oven thermometer to see if the thermostat needs adjustment. The good news is that you can do an adjustment on this oven if needed. They big lower oven has convection bake, which works very well. The stovetop is only "ok". it is difficult to control the heating, frequently going from too hot to too cold - but this is a common challenge with all electric cooktops and likely also depends on your quality of cookware. The biggest drawback is it is very difficult to clean and keep clean the glass cooktop. The stainless steel exterior is great and easy to keep looking good, but the glass cooktop is a completely different story.

Not only does it perform well and is easy to clean it’s beautiful! I would highly suggest taking a look at this one. Seems like I’m always cooking two things that require two different temps. Problem solved!

Love Love Love this. It’s fun to use the top oven for everything, so remember to use the bottom one too. Cooks and bakes evenly. Used the broiler for stakes tonight as it was too cold to grill outside. Perfect! Cook top is easy to use. Love the 3 sizes burner for small medium or large pans. Easy to clean too!

I been using this range for a few months now. It is not only beautiful, but it is so versatile with the two different size ovens, the top is easily cleaned. I will be replacing the rest of my kitchen with all new Kitchen Aid products from Best Buy.

Sleek design and look. Fit well except for wall to range distance. Rear shielding prevents pushing all the way back into L bracket. 220v socket oriented the wrong way. Otherwise, works very well. Cooktop heats up quickly and evenly. Will be using double oven with the Holidays coming up.

I always wanted a double oven but wasn’t sure if I would like it or need it. So far I love it! I’m still figuring out all of the features and how everything works. This is more complex than my previous simple model, and that doesn’t slow me down. I’m very glad I bought this one!

    Ovens better than stove burners

I have been happy with both ovens although the convection fan seems to run whether selected or not. Maybe I'm just not understanding how it is supposed to operate. Two ovens are very handy for family dinners. The stove top is not very good. The burners are very different and difficult to get consistent heat. Makes cooking more than one item frustrating. The installation was fair but because of the type of outlet and it's position on the wall the oven would not slide back the last 2 inches. The installation people would not modify the stove or do anything to make it fit right. It was obvious that they have seen this problem before and it should be a question asked at the time of purchase. I probably could have got it corrected before the install if I had know about the issue of clearance for that type of outlet.

I really wanted to like this range. I’ve wanted a double oven for a few years and our old one finally died so we jumped on this. Unfortunately they didn’t think through the design well. The lower oven door hits the ground when you open it. Or your toes if they are in the way. And the upper oven was uneven in cooking. One side would be done while the other side was consistently about 5-7 minutes behind. I do not recommend this range

This is a great stove! My only issue is the stove top is a bit difficult to clean. My husband is very particular about that. We used it for Thanksgiving dinner and it was great having two ovens and not worrying about cooking things at different temps. It heats up quickly and I do love the stainless finish. Looks very sharp in the kitchen!!

I received this range right before Thanksgiving so I wanted to wait to review it. I purchased this product for its functionality rather than for its looks or brand name. It has performed beautifully. I have used both ovens, though not the convection option, and they cook everything evenly and the ovens stay at temp. The cook top is a little tricky and I had to read the manual to figure it out. Since I bought this to cook on it I knew that the cook top would become marked up, but that does not bother me. I have not purchased any of the special cleaners that they recommend and they may help keep it looking nice. I have just been using mild soap and water. I think that the oven controls and the timer could be configured better on the control panel, but that has already been discussed by other reviews. Overall I am very happy with my purchase.

Pleas don't be dismayed by the four stars. The kitchenaid double range is a great product. For those that are looking to upgrade to double oven, do so immediately. We replaced a maytag with this kitchenaid and are very happy. Only issue is that our old oven had a dual timer to set separate times for each oven. Obviously you can get around this by just using the microwave timer. Additionally he maytag had a toasting option for the top oven which we really enjoyed, and it seemed to heat up a little faster. That said we live kitchenaid products as we think they are just a little better constructed than your everyday appliance models. Great Buy!!!!

Had a Maytag double oven for 20 years and had to recently replace it. Could not get one in white so decided to go with KitchenAid. I'm already going to have to have someone from Best Buy come and service it because I don't think the control board works correctly. For the price I expected so much more. This doesn't even have the basics in my opinion. Doesn't have individual lights for each oven, only has 1 timer for 2 ovens which sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, and the glass top is going to be a nightmare and this is from someone who wipes down the oven top after each and EVERY time the stove top is used.

I bought this because my older one broke, and my only criteria was double oven. For that, this is great! But the stove top and controls are terrible. First, the minor thing: The stove top has these little white dots to indicate the perimeter of the burners, but they just look like your oven has food debris on it, so good job making a messy looking thing. But more importantly are the burner controls. My old one had digital displays, so it was really easy to put it on 'medium.' Now, you might think this would be easy with a knob regardless - turn it half halfway, right? Not so! Because of the multi-zone burners, the controls are split, and for whatever reason they are not split equally. So you have this tiny section for the inner burner, which a millimeter off is going to get you a wildly different value, and on one of them I swear it's a weird exponential curve for no good reason. I sometimes cook the same thing on two frying pans at once, and trying to get them to cook the same is an exercise in frustration to say the least. On top of that, the knobs are chromed the heck out, so good luck if you want to see at all at a glance (or even a decent look) what they are set to and which burners are on. Like, did no one look at this thing before they decided to sell it? Tragically bad.

While this appliance is still new to me, their are a couple of issues that I have. When you have to clean the stovetop, you have to basically take all the grates off and they are heavy. Then you have to maneuver them back in place with the latches and sync them up to the holes. The positive note is that the stove top cleans up very nicely when you spill or things boil over. The oven doors are a little bit of a struggle to pull open. They are heavy. The knobs to the stovetop get very hot, almost to the point of not being able to touch them when you clean the oven. They are in the front of the stovetop right above the oven.
