Great Dishwasher but with a Few Compromises

We bought this attractive dishwasher about 3 weeks ago and run it everyday. We love the built in food disposal and that's why we chose this model. You don't have to rinse the dishes before loading and they still come out clean. The glasses don't have spots or residue either (We do use Jet Dry rinse aid though.) It is fairly quiet. It is also large and we can load more dishes in the bottom rack than our previous washer and taller glasses in the top. There is no spinner above the glasses to worry about catching on things. Unfortunately, this dishwasher is not perfect. There are a couple of compromises we had to make. First, the dishwasher takes between 2 and 2 1/2 hours to run a normal wash cycle! Secondly, it does not have a timer, like our last dishwasher had. (We used to set it to run in the middle of the night.) And lastly, it has a very strong odor of plastic/chemicals that lasts the entire time it is running. It is so strong that I have to open all the kitchen windows and take my kids upstairs or outside so they don't inhale it. This has been pretty inconvenient. I called Kitchenaid and researched this odor problem online. I have tried lemon juice, vinegar and baking soda and nothing has helped. I am really hoping this goes away with time.

    Good dish washer

I bought this in Aug 2010. So far it has been holding up well with almost daily use. We had some one from Bestbuy to install, and for the most part that worked well. It took a month or so for us to figure out a process that works for us. Currently, we use 7th generation dish washer powder, and plain white vinegar as rinse aid. We use the regular wash, but stop it after the wash is complete - before the dry cycle. We leave the door part open, before we go to sleep, and the heat from the wash helps to dry the dishes without the heater, which probably is better for the plastic stuff. As long as you position all the dishes so the water doesn't pool on top, the dishes come out spot free. Also, we use about 1/2 the amount of the detergent. It seems to clean just as well, and doesn't leave any powder residue. Sound is noticeable, but not bothersome. One feature I would like to see is an optional sound, when the wash cycle completes. So I can prop the door open. But for the price, I can't complain about such frilly features. Also, it is hard to read the control settings if you have an overhanging countertop. But there's not a lot of complex settings to worry about. So as long as you press the right buttons before closing the door, you should be ok.

I decided to install this machine myself, all of which would have gone quite well if I had realized that I needed something other than the "UNIVERSAL" dishwasher install kit. The device that was delivered to me did not use the standard elbow fitting for hot water that is referenced in the KITCHEN-AID INSTALL DOCUMENTATION (unbelievable- I am docking them a performance star for that) and everywhere on the internet by searching "dishwasher install". What you might need is the Universal Industrial-Grade 6' dishwasher install kit. They have the kit at Home Depot however it was in the plumbing section (not by the appliances) and I had to talk to an employee to find it, or you can buy it in advance from Kitchen-Aid. What I would do is buy both kits and then when you get the washer figure out which one you need and return the other one. I suggest both because when I looked at the floor model in Best Buy, durning my install adventure, the floor model would have required the standard elbow fitting. They must flip a coin everyday at the Kitchen-Aid assembly plant to decide which one to make.

    Great Dishwasher

I searched high and low for a dishwasher that would make me AND my husband happy. This one was actually the one he liked the most and I am glad that we went for it. At just over $700 bucks we feel like we got a great deal. It cleans REMARKABLY well. It's pretty quiet- but not as quiet as other brands we've used. Nothing worth worrying about- that's for sure. We wanted a hidden control panel due to our little curious toddler who loves to push any buttons she can get her hand on. This solved the problem. The set up wasn't too bad. My husband did all the work. He said it's way better to do it yourself than to pay the $150 bucks for installing. But he's a pretty handy guy. The best feature is the SIZE of this dishwasher. I only run it about 2-3 times a week. We love the large utinsel holder and how it sits on the side of the bottom rack so it gives you more room to line plates up. This dw didin't come with an adjustable shelf- but that also wasn't too important for us. On the top rack, I can fit mugs next to glasses without having to worry about the handles being in the way. The rack must be wider than the one we had before. We're VERY happy with our choice. Good luck!

    Excellent Cleaning & Quite

Had the unit installed July 2010 & run for approx. 1 month. We bought it on sale so it was a good buy, but the great thing about Best Buy is they will match a competitors price if it's lower. With moderate usage it has been a very good DW so far. It cleans very well & is quite. Using the suggested soap "Quantum Finish Powerball" made a big difference over our regular DW soap. We like the basic contols & it does everything we need & the "Clean" light is a nice touch so you don't have to quess. It has a large capacity, follow the layout in the instructions & everything fits nicely. We use the High-Temp Scrub & Heat Dry on all loads big or small & it comes out clean & dry everytime. Even though the soap has jet dry in it keep the door jet dry filled for better drying and cleaning. Units looks & runs great so far. You will need SS cleaner to keep the finger prints down, we use SS Magic spray & it works great.

We just replaced our KitchenAid dishwasher that was very, very old with this one. I was nervous buying one with no reviews, but I know KitchenAid has a good reputation. Once we installed it (which took a long time- I'd recommended paying the $150 to get it installed professionally, especially if you have older wiring and connections in an older house) I was so excited to see how well it cleaned so I put a broiler pan with stuck-on grease from the turkey we made on Christmas - two days later - and I set it on the heavy-duty cycle with high-temp scrub and it came out SPARKLING. No pre-rinsing or anything! And the rest of the dishes, including my Lenox China, which I also didn't pre-rinse, SPARKLING! I love this dishwasher.

I had a pretty good dishwasher 10 yrs ago. Then after moving into a new house I got suckered into a poor, poor dishwasher from local furniture store. There was never a completely clean load came out of it. When it broke I would have danced if it wouldn't have buckled my wood floor. When I searched reviews this dishwasher came up with the best reviews. So after having it for a couple of months I can honestly say, "Don't buy any other dishwasher." This one has everything needed. Simple to use, and even if it wasn't so quiet it would still be awesome because of how clean my dishes come out. Even baked on casserole dishes. LOVE IT!

    Not What I expected

I've been an owner of Kitchen Aid appliances for a long time. I do a lot of cooking and hense put my appliances to the test. With the durability of my past Kitchen Aid appliances I decided to replace all my appliances with Kitchen Aid. This is just a review for the dishwasher as the other appliances also befall the same fate. My dish washer on average runs about 2 sometimes 3 or 4 times a day on weekends. Not average use but this is a Kitchen Aid right. After a little over 3 years problems started to arise. The first of which was the springs on the door went. Shortly after that the selection buttons had become so worn some fell off. Then the door would not close correctly and "popped" open from time to time when it was running. And recently it will no longer load water and now needs to be replaced. This after about 3 1/2 - 4 years of use this is not exactly the durabilty I expect from a Kitchen Aid or one this expensive.

    Awesome Dishwasher

We purchased this dishwasher because it is very roomy (to fit our big plates) and looks great. It gets used about 3 times a week and makes our dishes nice and clean. Our previous dishwasher was so loud we had to turn up our tv in the living room while it was running. This dishwasher we barely even notice that it is on. It doesn't have as many cycle options but that does not affect us at all. We have washed everything from wine glasses to pots and pans. I installed it myself without having any previous installtion knowledge and had no issues at all. Took about an hour to install. I highly recommend this dishwasher if you are looking for a quality dishwasher at a great price.

Good: It looks very sleek and is ultra quiet even without the sound barrier installed. Bad: Do not believe this marketing claim: "Hard-food disposer Makes prerinsing unnecessary. Self-cleaning filter provides added convenience." I did and now my dishes and dishwasher smell like garbage. So far it has been serviced 3 times. It still smells like garbage. Kitchenaid did not stand by its product. They denied my last service request even though I was still in warranty. They told me that bad odors is not covered in the warranty since legally the machine's purpose is not to make your dishes smell decent, it only is supposed to clean them. My question is how can the dishes be clean if they smell horrible after every wash?

This thing cleans great! My wife loves it since she doesn't have to prewash anymore. The Kitchenaid replaces a base model Frigidaire that never cleaned very well. The one downside is that there is no delay start but we knew this coming in and quite frankly it is quiet enough to run while watching TV without bothering us too much so not too much of an issue. We have had the washer for about 2 months and it is performing very well so far. The unit looks awesome and the handle matches our original Fridgidaire Professional Series appliances so we are completely pleased with our purchase so far. We have only used with the Jetdry so that may be contributing to the cleanliness of the dishes.

I just replaced my GE profile with this model. This cleans as well if not better than the GE profile and was cheaper. Someone said the wash cycle was over 2 hours but a normal wash without heated dry is a little over an hour. It came with a trial bottle of jet-dry which we used but we have never used it in the past. Jet-dry really seems to make a difference with how clean and dry the dishes come out. There is some noise but very minimal and it doesn't bother use at all. Seems to be a lot of room to put dishes and has a well designed interior. Overall we are very please with this dishwasher.

We bought this dishwasher to match our new KitchenAid refrigerator. We bought it June 2009 and on Feb 2010 we had to use the warrenty to replace the soap dispencer piece. Now we have to replace it again and they will kitchen Aid will not stand by there product and replace it for free! The plastic piece on the soap dispencer door is made so poorly. They really need to re-do it. I am so upset that a company that I have spent over $3,000 with will not stand by there product. I fear I will be having to replace this piece every year!!!!! Dont buy

Buying this was the worst appliance purchase I have ever made. There is no delayed start. It might as well not have an on button if that's the case. The washer is rather noisy despite what the decible rating may claim. The buttons are hidden which you either like or don't like, but I find to be the worst thing ever. It's too noisy to use while we downstairs, but has no delayed start button to use after we go to bed. Despite what I paid to have it installed, I'm having it ripped out and am returning it. My old washer was better and that was boarderline junk. The handle sticks way out. What's the point of hidden buttons if the handle sticks out into the middle of the room?

My $1,200 Electrolux was a piece of junk and I finally replaced it with this Kitchenaid model. Although short on features, such as a delay, it makes up for it by actually cleaning the dishes. The racks are terrible, but again, it cleans dishes and so I'm not complaining. On the plus side, you can build a custom door front for this model, which is what I did with my Electrolux, so that makes it the cheapest entry point for a dishwasher with a custom door. All in all, I'm really happy with my choice.

This is the best dishwasher I've ever used. HUGE capacity, excellent cleaning of dishes, Every dish we have fits in this in one load. I have to run it so I can eat! Very little pre-rinsing is necessary. It's very quiet and looks fantastic in our kitchen. Great price for what it is. I'm in love with this dishwasher. Couldn't be happier with it after 1 month.

I love the quality and performance of this dishwasher! It is easy to load, holds a good amount of dishes, is very quiet and gets the dishes very clean. I purchased this product on sale, so I am very pleased with the price...however if I were paying full price I would still think this a fair price because of the product quality. The only drawback would be it's limited wash cycles... but really thats a minor point, given the fact that this product performs very well.

Love this dishwasher. Cleans dishes beautifully. A little loud, but well worth putting up with a little noise. Wish it had a pre-rinse cycle, but being it cleans so good, you can let dirty dishes sit in dishwasher till ready and they still come out spotless.

Lower rack will not operate without falling off track and on top of sprayer head. Door must be forced to open or close postion. Left side of door very weak. Unable to tell from indicators if product is running or complete. NOT as quite as our old Maytag. UNFORTUNATE KA nows owns Maytag. This product is being returned to store and we'll find another brand.

Strong chemical odor even after several loads. For $800.00 I would expect them to include the new style adaptor to connect the water supply and to have many more options that the lower price washers offer.
