Not the best in the trilogy

After reading Jory's review I had to watch it to see if he was right and he was for the most part. The plot is definitely the worst in the trilogy, at least in my opinion, it isn't horrible though. For seemingly the first half of the movie they're just setting up character background, and does kinda seem to rely on shock value to keep your interest, it didn't really work on me, i find relying on shock value to be cheap and it was kinda boring. To say the films are more about shock value than anything, though, is to be completely blind. If you watch movies for action and don't like to think, watch a different movie. I honestly don't know if I'd recommend it, I might mention it and say "It was nothing special, but I'm glad I finally finished the trilogy." I guess if you liked Mr. Vengeance (and Oldboy I guess, but it's really nothing like that) and really wanted to finish the trilogy I'd recommend it, but don't expect the same amount of emotion, at least I found it non existent for a good chunk of the movie, but maybe that was on purpose Either way, there were times when I just wanted to turn the movie off and say screw it, but I'm glad I didn't.

Not nearly as good as Oldboy

For fans of Oldboy you might want to check this out just to say you've seen the trilogy, which means you also have to sit through Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, yet I wont recommend it. You see these films are more for shock value than anything else. The director has some issues and I really am not interested in helping him sort them out. It involves child molestation, father daughter situations, abuse, children getting murdered by their teacher, and other things that I don't jump up and down and say, "Hey, that's a great idea for a movie, why didn't I think of that." He's like John Waters with no sense of humor and an amazing ability to compose images. I did like Oldboy even in the midst of the topic. At least it had a plot that stirred emotion.

    Thoughtful and violent film

Part of Chan Wook Park's "Vengeance" trilogy, "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" is haunting and effective. It thoughtfully examines the concepts of justice, revenge, and forgiveness. Not for the faint of heart.
