Laws of Illusion a refreshing comeback

I've been a huge Sarah McLachlan for years, so I was really excited to hear her new album and to see if she stayed true to her original sound or if she seemed to stray. Either way, I was just looking forward to hearing something fresh from her. If one thing is certain, it's that Sarah's soothing and like-no-other voice is just as powerful as it's ever been. The lyrics are thought-provoking, and the music is very soothing and relaxing. One major difference between this and some of Sarah's other albums is that this one does have a few tracks that are definitely more upbeat. I'm a fan of all of her albums, but it's no secret that some of her past songs have seemed a bit depressing or sad - still amazing songs, just not all uplifting. I would say Laws of Illusion is a nice blend of some more upbeat selections along with the slower, more relaxing songs that also have some heavier lyrics. While this CD would be perfect as background music for a romantic dinner or be great while relaxing in a bubble bath, I'd also like to say that, as the mother of a two-year-old, this is a great CD for calming your nerves while driving your car with a toddler in the middle of a whine-fest. All in all, 4 out of 5 stars. I really liked this CD, but at the same time, it didn't totally knock my socks off, either. But, I'm certainly not disappointed.

Wow, Sarah has certainly thrown all her raw emotions into this album. I am that kind of person who uses music to my advantage. If, I want to work through some trials and tribulations, I look for an artist that has gone through such and puts their heart and emotions into every little lyric. With Sarah McLachlan, who quite honestly sounds like an angel" you get just that. You get life lived, life wrote into a song that you can let meld in your mind as you work through your own emotions. Or you can sing along with it with that intense therapeutic release of energy. I believe Sarah has not held anything back on this album. Her song Forgiveness is so thought provoking, that it can play to your emotion to forgive those who have wronged you, or that maybe you need to seek forgiveness for those your wronged. If you are looking for an album that has meaning, has meat, has rawness of emotion, then I recommend you purchase Sarah McLachlan's Laws of Illusion album.

    So Worth The Wait!

Finally! It's been 7 long years and Sarah is back! Her new album is pretty much classic Sarah when it comes to her angelic voice and poetic words, but you can also feel a new maturity. The collection is filled with songs of pain and love, which seems to have been inspired by personal events. I was surprised and happy to find an upbeat, sorta techno sounding song on here. "Awakenings" sounds like something you might hear from Dido. I loved it, but I wish the energy would have stayed for a few more songs. The rest of the cd falls into adult contemporary/adult alternative. Die hard Sarah fans will no doubt love this cd, and for them, I say it was worth the long wait. Those that appreciate adult alternative will also surely have this one in heavy rotation. One disappointment though is that two tracks were previously released on her last collection of greatest hits. After such a long wait, one would hope for a whole cd full of new material. All in all, though, it's great cd!

a relaxing return to Sarah's classic style

As a long time fan of Sarah, I was apprehensive about her latest release. In an era where most artists seem to feel that they need to constantly change their style and sound to remain "relevant", Sarah Mclachlan is clearly comfortable in her own skin and making the music that her fans know and love. "Laws of Illusion" is a return to her at her best, with beautiful lyrics and music that are perfect for laying back and relaxing. The track "Out of Tune", in particular, is beautiful with the slight touch of the ethereal that I've come to love from her. The only oddity is the album photography. The cover image, in particular, is a less than attractive photo of her - in fact, she looks more like Teri Hatcher from Desperate Housewives than the true beauty she is. A few of the inner photos reflect her beauty but not as many as one would expect. Imagery aside, though, this is destined to be a Sarah Mclachlan fans new favorite album in a very short amount of time.

    Sarah is Back!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sarah is back!, July 1, 2010 By TyBreeMommy (Connecticut) - See all my reviews This review is from: Laws Of Illusion (Audio CD) I have to say that I was disappointed with the CD at first. I guess after so many years I expected more. I got my husband to become a fan and when he asked me "how I liked the new CD?" I was mixed, but after listening more I can now say Sarah is back!! The lyrics are great with the catchy lines, melodic music that leaves it lingering in your mind. I can play the whole CD through and just relax and enjoy. I love to sing along or just actually listen to her voice. My 5 year old son calls it "mommy's cd" but loves to listen too and calls "Loving you is Easy" his song. My favorite song is "Forgiveness." Thank you Sarah for not letting your fans down. I am looking forward to your tour of this CD!

    Easy to listen to...

In the interest of full-disclosure - I was given this album to listen to and to review. So I didn't have any expectations (good or bad) when I listened to the CD. I've heard some of Sarah McLachlan's music before, but I never bought any of her albums, so I can't make any comparisons to her previous work. That said, I really like this album. I'd categorize it as "easy listening", but it isn't overly mellow. Many of the songs are very upbeat and catchy, and I've even caught myself singing a few of them even when I wasn't listening to it. She has a really beautiful and interesting voice and the music is good too. I'm guessing that if you already like Sarah McLachlan, you'll like this one, and if you don't know her music, you'll still like it. I'd recommend it; it's good.

I just listened to Sarah McLachlan's new album and really enjoyed it. I have been a big fan of hers since I first heard "Angel" years ago. Laws of Illusion marks Sarah's first studio album of brand new material in 7 years and is definitely worth the wait; her voice is still beautiful. Sarah's first single off the album is "Loving You Is Easy" but I would have to say my favorite songs are "Illusions of Bliss" and "Forgiveness". This is an album that is very soothing and relaxing to listen to. I would recommend this album to others and if you're a fan of Sarah's, you will not be disappointed. And not only does Sarah have the new album out, but the return of the historic, all-female Lilith Fair (which was founded by Sarah) is returning this summer, tour dates starting June 27.

Sarah McLachlan-Laws of Illusion Love it, love it, love it!!! My favorite song is Heartbreak, but you cannot go wrong with any of these songs!!!! They are great for a road trip, cleaning the house, bubble bath time, or if you just need a good cry. It is not often that I give a cd a 5 star rating, but this one definitely deserves it!!! I really think that there are several songs on the cd that most people will like, ie something for everyone! Sarah has a beautiful, melodic voice. This is her first studio album of new songs in seven years, and I hope that she does not wait that long again for her next cd. She will be touring with Lilith Fair this summer in both the US and Canada. I did receive the cd at no charge, but that is not influencing my review.

    Still Love Sarah

I've been a Sarah McLachlan fan since the first time I heard "Adia" and have been loving her ever since. She has such an incredible voice. It's powerful and tender at the same time. I was so excited to get her new cd, and overall I liked it. She sings as beautifully as ever, but I felt like the music itself wasn't as melodic or catchy. I enjoyed listening to it, but I didn't get as "into it" as I have with her other albums. While I wouldn't call this a home run, I would still recommend it. (One 2 One Network provided me with a free copy of this cd in exchange for my honest opinion)

    Nothing catchy, Nothing substantial

I listened to the cd several times, trying to give it time to grow on me. It didn't. Not one track was something that I would see fit for radio play. Each track was an endless droning on very similar to the one before it. There was nothing notable or stand out about any of the songs. It sounds like a Sarah has used up all of her good material on her previous albums or like a totally different person is penning all of the songs (lyrics and music). It might make for a good background cd, when you just want some noise, but don't want the distractiong of paying attention to it.

I received Sarah McLachlan’s latest album to review through the One2One Network. As a huge fan of hers, I was thrilled to get a chance to hear the music before its official release. I was not in the least bit disappointed with the music. I have listened to the album several times through, and I find myself singing or humming along to more and more songs. “Loving You is Easy” and “Forgiveness” are two of my personal favorites. Although this album is not quite as upbeat and catchy as some of Sarah’s previous albums, it is still a great collection of songs.

I wanted to first say that I am a member of the One2One Network, and I received Laws of Illusion in order to review it. Wow, 7 years since she last put out an album, it doesn't seem that long ago...I've been listening to her since the 90's! I loved this one...lots of great songs that I really enjoyed. There wasn't a one I didn't like. I find myself listening to this album over and over again. It's very soothing and there's nothing more that I like to do than come home from a busy day at work and just unwind with her playing in the background.

The return of Sarah Mclachlan is a wonderful thing. Her album Laws of Illusion is great. Introspection has always been her strong point and once again she doesn't disappoint. "Awakenings", "Changes", "Rivers of Love" and "U Want Me 2" are quite fantastic. "Out of Tune" is definitely in tune. "Loving You is Easy" is a bouncy wonder. My absolute favorite is "Forgiveness", it is a song for anyone who has ever had a long relationship that ended. Thanks to the loves at One2One network for the chance to hear this album.

I was glad to see Sarah McLachlan back in the recording studio. The new album, “Laws of Illusion” is Sarah at her best. The sound is classic and soothing. Sarah’s soulful style hasn’t changed, just the lyrics. So if, you’re a current Sarah McLachlan fan, you’ll love this album. If you haven’t discovered Sarah McLachlan yet...nows your chance. The “Laws of Illuison” album was long overdue and well worth waiting for. It’s very easy to get lost in the music of Sarah McLachlan.

I've been listening to Sarah McLachlan for a long time, and have always loved her vocals. She has one of the most amazing singing voices among both male and female recording artists. This CD is everything I hoped for. The beautiful vocals and wonderful musical accompaniment make up for any potential flaws. Some of the songs a fairly simple, but I appreciate the simple as well as the more complex. This is my new favorite CD.

Laws of Illusion is another enjoyable CD from Sarah McLachlan. Sarahs voice is so beautiful and capitvating. Her voice just kind of pulls you in to listen as she delivers heart felt and soulful lyrics. The music is pretty and soothing. It has an easy listening tempo. You can tell that Sarah put a lot of herself into this CD. I enjoyed listening to it; however, it seems to be a story of a breakup and recovery.

It's been a long wait for Sarah McLachlan's newest album, but the reward of "Laws of Illusion" is sweet. Many of the songs deal with heartbreak and loss, but at the same time, demonstrate lessons learned in getting through those difficult times. My favorites were the upbeat "Illusions of Bliss", "Loving You Is Easy," and "U Want Me 2", as well as the more introspective "Awakenings" and "Love Come."

Listening to this CD reminded me of hanging out with friends when I was in high school in the 90's. I was looking forward to hearing something new, but this new CD while lovely and soothing, brought me back to the days of flannels, ripped jeans, and baby doll dresses. The one stunning exception was Bring on the Wonder which really showed off Sarah's silvery voice over the barest breath of a piano.
