Let's get the cons out of the way. I'm ok with the having to use the app to drive it, lots of cool bells and whistles. But for me, a remote control would work best. Let's hope lego maintained and provides support for their app in the future. Other than that, what an awesome satisfying build. This rig is big, and for me who liked to display, this is a very nice set to add to the collection. Definitely for young adults and up. This goes well if you have an excavator so you and the kids can break ground and start working on a project. You'll love it.

I bought this item because I like the Technic & Creator series. What appealed to me about this set was the size, amount of pieces and the CONTROL function. Building took four days which I enjoyed. When the truck was complete I noticed that due to the motors you can't play with the truck without the CONTROL app as the wheels won't move and the bucket can't be lifted by hand. I downloaded the app onto my phone to try the remote control function. Using the app was confusing at first but eventually I figured it out. Unfortunately some buttons don't function properly. The buttons for the bucket to lift up and go down didn't work. While the truck will drive forwards and backwards in 1st and 2nd gear, when switching to 3rd the truck would stop and raise the bucket. Only by repeating would the bucket go down. I decided to take it apart piece by piece to rebuild to see if that would fix the problem by double checking the instructions. It was exactly the same. How much you will enjoy this item depends on what interests you. If you enjoy large sets with lots of pieces and displaying them afterwards you will enjoy it. If you like to play with them after building you will be disappointed as without the app the truck is a paperweight. If you like remote-controlled vehicles be aware some things work and some don't. I mostly enjoy building and displaying my sets therefore I can recommend this item for those with similar interests. But I wish LEGO had spent some more time working out the bugs on this set before releasing.

This set is fantastic! My daughter and I had a blast building it together. We spent the weekend on it and she has been playing with it every day this week. The app is super easy to control and the features are so realistic. It has multiple drive gears to increase torque when needed. That is amazing!

Big project but the kid is excited to see it progress. Pretty awesome so far.

Best Buy shipped this set naked, ruining the box and inflicted severe damage in transit, including a gaping hole in the box. Best Buy censored my 2 initial, more detailed reviews, terrible. Don't order large Lego sets from here for delivery. Lego and Amazon offer much better shipping packaging.
