A Wonderful PC with an Underpowered Processor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is very stunning, it has great speakers with a subwoofer, a beautiful IPS screen, a good keyboard and very solid build quality. However, the CPU is my main gripe with this computer. Within a month of ownership I began to experience extreme CPU throttling issues. The computer's cooling system is clearly being overtaxed when playing games. And the CPU is set a a 15W TDP, which is ridiculous. While using CPU-Z and monitoring the CPU voltage while playing GTA 5 there was a consistent drop from 1.375v to 0.837-75v. This constant fluctuation renders the game completely unplayable, with fluctuating frame rates and pop-in textures. As for the GPU it is well equipped to handle GTA 5, with 4gb of Vram it is wonderful. I bought this computer to do my school work and to do a bit of casual gaming, but apparently I cant do that. I am extremely frustrated with Lenovo and the CPU configuration with the AMD processor. If I could take this computer back and spend extra for the Intel counterpart I would do it in a heartbeat. As of for now Lenovo really needs to fix this problem!

WiFi / Windows 10 issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.12/6/2015 I bought a Lenovo laptop sku #4577800 on Nov, 30/15. From the first day I brought it home there were wifi connection issues. The only way to get a decent reception is to attach the Ethernet cable. I thought this was an issue with Windstream, and they could not find the issue, and informed me that it's probably a Windows 10 issue. After 3+ hours on the phone with Windstream they had me try moving the modem, replacing the modem, rebooting the modem, and none of those “fixes” worked. I was using the Lenovo in the living room approximately 5 feet away from my roommates’ older Toshiba laptop with windows 8.1 or earlier. His laptop had no connectivity issues while my brand new Lenovo wouldn’t even stay connected to the wifi. This was after spending all that time, 3 + hours with Windstream. I contacted Geek Squad at approximately 10 this morning (12/6/15#, and at 1:30 the technician said that I would have to take it to a Best Buy Store to have Windows 10 removed, and Windows 8.1 installed. This was after performing windows updates, driver updates, and I’m not sure what else. I also asked the “technical support” guy if a wifi range extender would help solve my problem. He explained to me what it does, how it connects, etc.., but I needed to know why when I look online, some of these devices cost $25 others over $200. He informed me that he wasn’t that “tech savy” and couldn’t answer my question……are you kidding me?!??!?! This guy has remote access to my computer, is making changes to the system, and he said he’s not “tech savy” !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will say that the graphics, and sound quality are quite good, but a laptop doesn't do me much good if the only way I can get an internet signal is to be tethered to an Ethernet cord!!!!!!! I took the Lenovo to the Gainesville Georgia location, and the geek squad technician said doing that probably would not help, but they are going to try that anyway #uninstalling windows 10, and re-installing windows 8.1, that is#. He then asked me why I just didn’t go back home, grab the box and external cd drive, and make an exchange for another laptop. #the Gainesville store is 32 miles from my house, one way!!!# They also informed me that it would take a day, maybe two to perform this #they weren’t really sure# The technician wasn’t wearing a name tag, so I did not get his name. Before turning over the laptop to him, he asked me to try and see if the internet would work any better at the store. I explained to him that I exchanged a different laptop approximately 2 weeks earlier, I wanted to test the laptop at that time, but The customer service representative told me that the wifi service was lousy, and not worth hooking up to. #same Gainesville Georgia store) I also explained to him that I have spent over 3 hrs with a “certified” geek squad technician, who wasted my time, and I really wanted to go home. I also said what good is it going to do to hook up the wifi at the store if I’m not going to use the laptop at the store, I want to use it at home!!!!!! He also informed me that it was going to be $90 to back up the files, even after I paid $150 for a year of geek squad protection. I told him that was never disclosed to me at any time during the last 5 exchanges and purchases I made in the last month. I only had my resume’ and cover letter on the laptop and I had transferred those to another computer, so that wasn’t a big issue, it’s just the fact that no one at Best Buy told me about the extra fee for backing up files. Plus, I had the laptop for less than a week, I haven’t had a chance to have that many files on the computer. I previously mentioned previous exchanges and purchases. Since Oct. 25th, I have exchanged / purchased 5 different laptops at Best Buy, all of these $700 or more. That’s insane!!!!!!!!!!! I first bought a “CERTIFIED GEEK SQUAD” refurbished laptop, an HP Envy. In less than a week the power cord kept falling out of the socket, and two of the corners were starting to delaminate, so I exchanged it for a new HP Envy laptop. This one performed flawlessly for just over two weeks, then a graphics driver error message, then the graphics card failed. When the laptop came out of standby, all I would get on the screen were lines. I took it to the Gainesville Store, dealt with the same geek squad "professional" I dealt with today, and told me it was the graphics card, and it would take 3 weeks to ship out, repair, and return the laptop. I told him that wasn’t acceptable, and I wanted an exchange, he sighed, said he had to get manager approval. I showed him the receipt and showed him where I could exchange the laptop with NO HASSLES!!!!!!!!!!! Up until Jan.15th. I exchanged the laptop for the same model, and in less than 24 hours, the same thing happened to the next HP, driver error messages, and failed graphics card . I took it back the next day, and exchanged the HP for a Dell. The exchange was the same price, but the Dell didn’t have a numeric key pad, had terrible graphics, was quite slow, and got quite warm on the bottom in less than 10 minutes. In less than a week, the “P” key started sticking, and after several reboots, would not stop sticking. Another trip to Best Buy. I bought this Lenovo, and as I mentioned earlier , from day one, I have had wifi issues. What this boils down to, I’m happy with the return / exchange policy at Best Buy, but I am N O T H A P P Y A T A L L, with the quality of laptops being sold. I am still using a 3+ year old Toshiba that I paid $250 for. It has been dropped, had beverages spilled on it, and the thing still works. It is quite frustrating to have 5 separate $700 + laptops to have issues in less than a month!!!!!! As I mentioned earlier, the closest store is over 30 miles one way, so its not very convenient to make these exchanges. Can a manager of some sort please explain to me why buying a good laptop is so inconvenient?

Mediocre Budget Gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did not have a good experience with this laptop for various reasons. Display leaks LED light from the back lit display in the corners of monitor, tried two models, same situation both times, only the second laptop was slightly better. Performance for the newer game titles out not so great, gained a few fps only due to lowering the resolution down to the base (1280 or lower), roughly 60 frames on average which would drop off during action scenes to about half. Tried doing an upgrade on memory, too much thermal paste to get case open. Unless cash strapped, avoid it, chances are it will not produce the warm fuzzy feeling. Windows 10 has some buggy issues going on with updating and networking which I spent considerable time trying to fix, not on the Lenovo end.

Maybe if it was not a open box item
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ordered a open box Geek Squad Certified, and have had very good luck with open box items at Best Buy before. Not so much with this one. Opened the box and looks brand new. Still plastic on vents and such, looks great, start it up and the display driver crashes multiple times while setting the computer up. Was also a bit sluggish, granted coudl have been the system starting up and such, but was laggier than my current computer. Powered on for all of 10 minuets. Other than the display driver crashing, the sound was great, the screen when the display driver was working was crisp,

Great gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this laptop to replace a year and a half old acer. I have used Lenovo before, and loved it. This laptop plays the games I like to play, even on wireless without lag. Graphics run smooth and look beautiful. Cpu runs fast and is good with multitasking. I would definitely purchase Lenovo in the future.

Great Entry/Mid Level Gaming Notebook
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased 2 of these notebooks to replace a dead HP Envy dv7 and aging 5 year old Toshiba. With the hardware on this device my wife and I play WoW at an average of 30-95 fps (playable) on Good setting and I play STO fully maxed out on Ultra setting averaging 70 fps. For the price this decent notebook keeps my wife and I in the game without breaking the bank with solid performance. I did drop a 480gb SSD in both notebooks as it is well known 5400rpm platter hard drives are not up to snuff for todays needs plus reduces power consumption should we need to go a battery. I highly recommend this device for anyone needing to game decently on a budget and not bragging about having the most fps with their fellow gamers.

Great to start, degrades quickly.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop in January, it's now March. It started out great, but it quickly went belly up. The machine has problems maintaining it's cooling, and will severely throttle the machine if it goes over the threshold of 65 degrees C, which is reasonable. However, the fact that you can only play a game for a little while before it reaches this threshold (10-15 minutes) is a major design flaw. Lenovo customer service is all offshore as well, so don't expect to talk to someone who speaks English as their native language if you do decide to buy this laptop, and it eventually breaks down on you. Luckily I bought the extra insurance and it is currently being looked at by Geek Squad. [TL;DR] It heats up really fast when gaming, which throttles the video card and processor. I'd spend the extra $200 for the Nvidia version. (I use AMD for almost everything, so this is saying something.)

Graphics card not working for such games as CS:GO
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is excellent for web browsing and certain games. However, for the majority of games that I play, lile dota 2, CS:GO, League of Legends, it doesnt use the gpu. Other than that though, its fairly decent gaming pc. They need to make the gpu playable with those games, however.

Unfortunate
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really excited to get a above average gaming laptop and with Lenovo too, I've had great experiences with them in the past. This one, however, has been the absolute worst laptop I've purchased. After about 3 months out of the box, the motherboard died. Hit the power button and nothing happened, no lights or sounds of any kind. Even the charging indicator light was dead. Even before the machine died, I was never getting above 30fps on a good day on games such as Wolfenstein, Sim city, Rainbow 6, etc. Constant screen freezes and blue screens. I reset to factory settings and tried again, same issues. After the repairs, it got worse. Laptop takes around 10 minutes to start up from restart or shut down, OS will load constantly causing screen to flash non-stop indefinitely even after hard reset. I did about a months worth of research and saw this had good reviews and was extremely disappointed. I'm sure it is just terrible luck with the machine, unfortunately the problems came to fruition after the windows for a refund and further repairs were open. I have had good luck with Lenovo in the past but after seeing how their "higher end" gaming laptop performs, I will not be looking to them for a long while.
