For the price this is a great laptop

I am a computer repair technician. I can tell you that there things I look for when it comes to longevity of a laptop-- That would be the amount of heat given off and the times the fan has to run to cool the unit. This Lenovo runs cool, I'm talking on for hours and still running cool. That's a huge plus for the longevity of the processor and other internal components. With all the specs I'd say it is not the speediest laptop, but adequate for most users. One terabyte hard drive and plenty of storage and 4GB of RAM keeps up to par with all other basic laptops. Not all have bluetooth, this one does. A really nice feature if you have bluetooth headphones. Bluetooth 4.0 is also lower power consumption for longer battery life. I also like the thinness and relative weight of the unit. It includes a DVD/CD ROM drive, not bad for a newer, thin laptop. The power plug is also rectangular and seems to hold it's position well (one other, often failing component I look for). The G50 also includes one USB 3 port which I like, especially for quicker transfers and backups if your use Western Digital and other USB 3.0 external drives. Some recommendations to make it a better laptop would be to get a larger battery for longer, cord free use and double the memory to 8GB. Other than that I highly recommend buyers to compare this one with HP and Dell equivalents. I don't think you will be disappointed with this purchase.

    Great Computer From Lenovo (IBM)

Excellent, i remember when Lenovo were a little less than impressive, but being that they bought out IBM, finally. All that has changed for the better. I mean what better way to make PC's and continue the legacy, than from the inventors of computers themselves. I like these a lot better also since they have dropped the IBM Logo, and the red (nipple, cursor) that use to plaque the middle of the keyboard. Which while I'm typing this review on it, I should say is very good. The top of the keys are concave which takes a little while to get use to (being that I'm use to using HP). But so far so good. I got an extra stick of 4gb RAM for this PC and now it flies. Remember when you upgrade to check the speed, this uses the newer 12,800-1600mhz speed. If you get anything less you may notice a slight drop in performance. This is a good processor as anything I3, I5 and I7 are great. When you go for Pentiums or Celerons you get what you pay for. Sure they are good for basic things, but nowhere near the I series. And it shows. I will also say these processors can be found for a great price if you look around hard enough. And steer clear of AMD, they run to hot and don't hold a candle (anymore) to Intel. The screen looks good, although again I'm use to the big ole 17.3 inch screen. Something I'll just have to adapt to. This unit I found at Best Buy (yeah sorry Amazon), for 309$ plus tax. Clearance. Mainly because it's preloaded with Windows 8.1 which is fine with me. Windows 10 at the moment is an abomination, and riddled with issues. Just look at some of the reviews on it, especially the upgrade thumb drive options. So not thanks MS. So I booted this up, keys are great, screen is good, HAS bluetooth, which some more expensive units don't even provide. Good solid build, not necessarily an eye catching laptop, just plain black, but I didn't get it for people to gawk over. Battery life leaves a little to be desired, clocking in at around 4 hrs or so, which I guess isn't to bad. And another thing that's great is you CAN upgrade anything. Still has the separate battery, and the back panel comes off. So no taking apart the whole pc, to get to what you need. Which is the way it is now with 90% of new laptops. So kudos to Lenovo for still being one of the top brands out there. And underrated because everyone wants the big brand names, everyone else gets. I've also liked Acer for years, but they don't sell much these days. Sadly. HP, Toshiba, and Dell are pretty much overrated IMO. And Macboooks, well cost about as much as an old used car. So pass on that. Anyway, this is a great laptop for a great price. So enjoy. I'm loving it thus far (20 year computer technician here). BTW-unlike most this has a touchpad OFF button, which you will definitely need when typing. Also the trackpad click buttons seem generic, but really aren't. They are made to go down into the computer, or appear that way. Makes for little to no noise. This is NOT a defect.

It was kind of bulky when I've got to see in real but there were pretty brilliant function keys and soft typing keyboard with good visionable monitor that never leave any stain or handprint even if I touched a lot. Some minor issues I have sensed was that booting speed was a little slow for the new product like 30~40 second, and my thumb is keep touching a touchpad so happened unwanted mouse point moving, which is I should get used to it, probably. Time will tell more later but I believe I can use this for a long time. Also recommend others too!

I bought this laptop a few months ago after my Toshiba quit working. This laptop is lower end but get's me what I need and is very good with windows 10 update. I like gaming and this is a nice laptop to run lower end games like borderlands 2. If you are looking to play higher end games like DayZ or ARK Evolution evolved I suggest a better laptop or a desktop. But this is a good budget laptop I use this for Hulu Plus and Twitch.tv mostly and this will get the job done for both and it will play video very well.

    Great Value for the money!!!

I had an HP DV7 that I had bought from Best Buy a few years ago and the video portion had apparently failed due to crack or loose connection. After looking and looking and then having limited funds I went to Best Buy and saw this model in a box but no floor model. The initial selling point was the 1TB drive. I recently bought 16GB of RAM upgrade and am enjoying it very much. I play X-Plane as well as surf the web and use my new I-pod touch and have not been disappointed. The Lenovo has built in tools that I also enjoy. These tools allow you diagnose or help tune the performance of the laptop. The RAM upgrade was less than $100.00 even with overnight shipping. I can run X-Plane in a "high" level of video performance with no lag. The laptop stays cool even when running X-Plane. I upgraded to Windows 10 right away and like the performance of Windows 10 over 8 any day. Lenovo also has a nice feature to select battery modes to preserve the battery life. Sound quality is pretty good as well. For the price and cheap upgrade of RAM and video performance I can't find anything really negative about the laptop. Occasionally the mouse gets screwy but a reboot solves that issue. Well Done Lenovo!!!

my office only needs internet and one billing program so there really is no need to spend a lot of money on a computer if that's all you plan to do. this one fit the right price and needs. it was a little slow when booted for the first time and setting it up but now it runs quicker. windows 8.1 takes a while to get used to but this one also has the ability to look like old windows

    Excellent Laptop For The Price

The laptop isn't the most powerful, fast, or sophisticated laptop out there... but if you're looking for an extremely reliable laptop for a good price, this one is it. I purchase many laptops for my company employees, and the Lenovo laptops have been by far the most reliable.

    Excellent Laptop

A few weeks ago I purchased a new laptop. It replaced a 9-1/2 year old Lenovo T43. It boots up super quickly, doesn't get hot when sitting on my lap for several hours, and is fast. I get four or so hours of battery life before recharging. I have only one issue and that is the mouse sometimes takes over as though there is someone piggy-backed onto the laptop and moving the mouse and for several minutes it zooms in and out of whatever page I am on. I am going to have the Geek Squad check it out. I upgraded to Windows 10 so perhaps it is a Windows 10 glitch. I also have Word 2013. I love my new laptop, Best Buy and the Geek Squad.

It has been a very good basic laptop for me to use for internet. Just remove some of the bloated programs that you don't use. And, that will make your laptop runs faster.

    WORST KEYBOARD/MOUSE EVER-STAY AWAY

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased a Lenovo G50-80 laptop to replace my wife's old Thinkpad. I bought it on a special deal by Lenovo for $299. I figured that since they made Thinkpads the G50-80 would be similar in design-WRONG. First, the good news. I love the screen graphics, disk space, processor speed, etc. We mainly do internet browsing and standard Microsoft Office applications on Windows 8. The Bad News: The KEYBOARD/MOUSE is the worst we've ever experienced on any computer EVER. First off, the keyboard and mouse are shifted to the LEFT. If you are a touch typist you will find this horrible. Your fingers are always on the wrong keys, and you either end up typing the wrong characters or wiping out your work entirely if you hit the wrong Right side key. They reduced the side of the Right SHIFT key compared to the Left Shift key, and all other computer keyboards in the world. That means when you want to press SHIFT you are always hitting some other key, and maybe deleting your work unintentionally. They also placed the mouse pad off to the left, and so low there isn't much room if you truly have the unit in your lap. You can't get to the mouse keys easily. And the keys have a lousy feel and you can't tell when they are depressed fully. The mouse also freezes up on the screen and you have to hit the mousepad hard to free it up again. You get the picture. Don't purchase this unit if you are an old touch typist, or anyone used to a standard Thinkpad, Toshiba or any other keyboard design. This machine totally sucks on that point and my wife and I hate to use it. I'm typing this on my old Toshiba with a standard keyboard layout. If you can't use the keyboard or mousepad without problems what's the point of having a laptop. It's a shame Lenovo spoiled an other great laptop with such a stupid keyboard design. What was wrong with the Thinkpad keyboard-best keyboard design EVER. All we have now is a $300 piece of junk that we only use when we have to, which isn't often. I won't recommend this Lenovo product or any Lenovo product to anyone (I also have a Lenovo Desk Top that has minor keyboard issues I can live with),

I bought this laptop, it works fine for what I bought it for, which is basic spreadsheet docs and email and internest browsing. I don't beleive it is built for high usage and gaming. It is on the larger size so if your looking for something small don't go with this one
