    Hard drive and warranty failure

    Posted .

Bought a Lenovo G50 laptop on 7/28/15 at the Jackson, MS Best Buy. The laptop was used to display videos on my mother's television. She is a dementia patient in a local nursing home so the laptop wasn't being carried around in a backpack and getting any excessive jarring. Still, the hard drive failed 6 weeks later on 9/11/15. I took the laptop back to Best Buy and was told that I had two options (1) Send the laptop back to Lenovo where it would take two weeks for repairs but it would be covered under warranty; or (2) have the Geek Squad repair it and I would have to pay for the new hard drive and labor (I'm not sure if I'll have to pay for a new operating system). They said this repair would take 3-5 days. Considering my mother's situation where the videos are her main source of entertainment, I probably should have just bought a new laptop, but I ended up leaving the laptop with the Geek Squad. My 1-star rating is a combination of the hard drive failing right away and then finding out that the warranty isn't very practical since most people can't go two weeks without their laptop. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with this purchase and repair experience.

    Windows Update ruined laptop

Owned for 5 days-then returned. Windows 10 upgrade has compatibility issues with something inside the otherwise very nice looking lenovo. The Microsoft Store did not load-nor could it be re downloaded-none of the "APPS" microsoft installed opened, the microphone was unplugged and could not be retrieved-and when i decided to go back to the version (8.1) the computer came with, the computer could not recover any of my 500 GB of data and i lost about 250 GB of music/movies. So, even though the computer looked nice, and the mousepad was smooth, i would not trust my information on this specific LENOVO G50 laptop.

Loved computer, but when I needed service was $$$

My laptop stopped working, when I called to send it in the customer support told me it was $100 for diagnostic plus all shipping and handling, then if it was not covered under warranty it would be additional to pay for repair. This would make it over 1/2 the cost of my original purchase (we bought it on sale) I'm sure this is the case with all computers, but I was not pleased with having to pay up front without knowing if warranty would cover. Since laptop just stopped working, I don't know what to do with it.

this laptop is the worst you can find in the market. I know is only 300 dollars but is not worth even 3 dollars, the battery dies in 30 minutes the wifi adapter never works, the internet freeze every time you open 3 tabs.

    Gets hot when typing

For the most part, this is an okay machine but I have decided to return this machine. While pulling it out of the box, I did notice a rattle inside like a loose screw or plastic inside. Another more serious problem is the area just right of the touch pad got very hot while typing on the keyboard. It stays cools any other time while idling or surfing the net. A quick search came up where this is a common problem so I've decided to return it before the return policy expiration.

    Don't get it

The mouse will quit working a lot. The only way to get the mouse to work is to restart but sometimes that doesn't even work. The keys don't always work. I cannot get rid of McAfee, which the computer came with, because I am not the admin. However, I am the only user. McAfee will close me out of programs just to tell my free trial has expired. I am a college student, so it makes research and typing reports difficult.

Yes, it's a cheap laptop. I needed a cheap laptop. But, did it need to such a dud? The touch pad is awful. It, with a maddening regularity, malfunctions and opens and closes windows and doesn't respond. Wifi connectivity occasionally fails and requires a restart. Speaker apparently filters sound through a tin can. In short, the user experience is dreadful. Other than that Ms. Lincoln, the play was fine.

    Worst Computer ever

Worst computer ever. I would give it negative stars if I could. it is slower than my old computer from 2007. I had the battery charged to 100%, I unplugged it and it was already at 98% by the time I went to sit down 2 feet away. The internet is slow (my internet is fast on any other device. including my old computer). The internet also refuses to connect. DO NOT buy this computer. It is not worth any of the money you will spend. I just bought it today and I will return it first thing tomorrow morning.

Loved this laptop. Has lasted nearly 7 years until my toddler toppled it for the I don’t know how many times and finally damaged the lcd screen. It’s still such a good laptop I’ll be replacing the lcd and keep on trucking with it.

    Absolute Junk

Out of box wouldn't play video. "Warranty doesn't cover software" Even if factory installed. Best Buy demanded $200 just to look at? Took down road to mom and pop shop . fixed in 5 min. They didn't even want to charge me I left a generous "tip". Done with Best Buy and Geeks trying to line pockets with commissions with no regard to customer care!

      Hi there,

We're sorry that you're having problems with your G50. The warranty might not cover problems with the software, but it should run out of the box. Next time, please contact our Technical Support at http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/. They should be able to guide you. Thanks! Lenovo Staff lenovo

I bought this computer new at the full new price and was given a used computer. How do I know? It had hundreds of threats upon turning it on for the first time and several viruses. I bought this to work on and will have to take it back because it barely worked until the viruses hit and had to be worked on before it became usable. Will be returning and demanding a new one.

I purchased to replace 5 year old Lenovo lap top and it turns out my old lap top is still better than this one. Opening any App or website is like waiting for the old AOL to dial-up! When they do open...there is a large delay before you can input something in the search window. I just ran several scans/tools, etc and then loaded Windows 10 to try to fix...no JOY!!!
