Everything about this laptop is perfect, from the price to it's performance, and the fact that it's lightweight is another nice feature.

This inexpensive computer has worked well for accessing the Internet and all the MS Office applications. It is light weight and seems to be durable since I have taken it on two business trips already.

Take into consideration that this is a very inexpensive laptop. It has had great use from all 8 of my kids. No trouble with wifi. Had issues with trackpad, but seems to be ok now.

Serious Software/Hardware Compatibility Issues

First of all, I’ve owned a number of Thinbook/Cloudbooks and even a Chromebook due to the fact that I mostly use a tablet or a desktop for my computing needs and only occasionally need a laptop. So a very inexpensive laptop with some essentials fits the bill exactly when needed. I totally get the intended purpose for these machines (cloud-based) with maybe a few side benefits, but let’s look at some key areas:
Onboard Storage:
The 64GB drive is perhaps the saving grace of this machine. Practically all other Windows-based Thinbooks that I’ve ever seen only come with 32GB of onboard storage, so 64GB is a real treat. With the operating system/restore partition taking up nearly 16GB of the standard 32GB you really only get about 16GB for all of your installable programs and updates—including the full Office software, Windows firmware updates and Windows apps. So 32GB simply is not enough space for the type of productivity work Windows machines are designed for. Yes, there’s a MicroSD slot for expandable storage, but once your system updates and apps chew through all that space you’re eventually going to have a brick. So that 64GB drive is goes a very long way at allowing so extra breathing room for holding files, traditional Win32 programs and a number of other things. Kudos to Lenovo for this killer feature (5/5).
Cost:
I bought this on sell for $199 which was an exceptional deal. $179.99 for Open Box would have been even better, but just didn’t want to wait. For the whole package, $199 is a fair price; $249.99 is not. (4/5).
Aesthetics:
The laptop comes with a black plastic for the keyboard and a cheap-looking silver lid. Within one day of use, the oils from my fingers began staining the black plastic near the trackpad. So it got ugly real quick. Other than that, I think it looks just okay (3/5).
Screen:
The 1366x768 aspect ratio does the job just fine. I felt the colors were a bit on the cool side, but still looked quite nice. No complaints here (4/5).
Hinge:
The hinges found on Lenovo products are absolute engineering marvels! This was no exception. It is an incredibly smooth, buttery experience that is by far an awesome selling point. The hinge lays flat 180*. Which I’m a little baffled by, because I can’t really see many use cases for a 14” laptop to be open that far. So in my opinion it’s a wasted feature to go that far back. But whatever, the velvety feel of that puppy compensates for the useless feature of bending back 180* (5/5)
Keyboard:
Lenovo also makes a really great keyboard. The keyboard on this laptop is on par with its price point. I felt there wasn’t much key travel, but it was likely the best experience of any Windows Thinbook I’ve encountered. Very pleasing. (5/5)
Battery:
About what I could expect from this type of computers and the other Thinbooks I’ve tested…mixed test of browsing, videos, apps, etc…about 6 hours (4/5)
Trackpad:
Okay, so here’s where things start going downhill rather quickly…the trackpad seems dated with the two-button mouse click pads. The trackpad it’s is rather unresponsive at times, gestures are hit or miss, it’s slow to get move the cursor, the clicky pads seem awfully cheap and make a terrible clacky sound when pressed. You better off using a mouse on this one, trust me. Also, with only one day of operation, the black plastic body of the chassis/trackpad/mouse click buttons began showing finger oils! I was rather appalled. I can see this getting very ugly very quickly. (1/5)
Speakers:
The two twin speakers are at the bottom of the laptop and fire at the table. In most cases, the sound was muffled, distorted and sounded rather hollow. Not a very pleasant experience at all. Again, you might as well either use some multimedia speakers or a Bluetooth speaker with this guy because its pretty awful. (2/5)
Power Adaptor:
This may not seem like a big thing, but it is. The brick is at the adaptor where the prongs are and it’s pretty huge. It takes up a lot of space in your outlet and makes it difficult to plug other things in your outlet. Other laptops have the brick somewhere about 1/3 of the way of the length of the cord with a normal prong at the end. Rather inconvenient and quite noticeable. (2/5)
Operating System Performance:
So I had this laptop for about three days, and I’m not joking when I say this but every single time I used it, I noticed something different---choppy video, sluggish transitions, a few total system crashes (BSOD), couldn’t wake from sleep, misaligned text on apps, slow scrolling, unresponsive inputs from keys/trackpad, a couple error messages from hardware. I think this has to do with the Dual Core processor and low-spec’d RAM. Along with a new OS (Windows 10) that does have a few bugs, this became the deal breaker for me which prompted a return to Best Buy. (0/5)
Verdict:
I really REALLY wanted this guy to work for me…great keyboard, beautiful hinge, perfect price on sale, killer storage capacity, but the combination of hardware and software revealed some significant shortcomings that proved to be too difficult for me to overcome, so I took it back. If only the Operating System was a smooth as the hinge is than this would have been a 4 or 5-Star review! (35/55)
Although the averages of all my categories reveal a 3-star rating, I can’t recommend this one in good conscious to anybody.

We bought this laptop for my 9 yo granddaughter. She just loves it. It has more than enough storage, processing speed and memory for what she likes to do and is allowed to do - videos, games, movies, homework. She's not allowed to access the internet without supervision, however, under supervised internet access we've noticed that it downloads and performs well. Very happy with our purchase for $249.

Computer is very nice. It's lightweight and super thin. The 6 month antivirus is great. I just wish it was for 1 year and the Office for 1 year is great also. This computer moves fairly good.

I really wanted to like this laptop. It looks sleek, has a spacious keyboard with a great tactile feel, but it was a bit laggy. I thought having the 64GB SSD would compensate for the 2gb of RAM. Another issue may be that Windows 10 is just too bloated for a 2gb device. 2GB of RAm works fine in a Chromebook but not in a Windows 10 environment. Microsoft should consider making a lighter version of win 10 for these cloudbooks otherwise they will fail miserably in taking any market share from Chromebooks.

This computer does exactly what it should. It is not very powerful, but it boots up fast, streams video very well, and is great for surfing the Internet or typing up a report. I will say, I have had an issue with the screen going black and then coming back with a message informing me that the video card stopped working. This typically happens when I have multiple websites running at once. But again, you know what you are getting into with this type of product and overall I am satisfied.

Thank you for choosing the Lenovo IdeaPad 100s-14. With regard to the battery life, try changing your power management setting to a more conservative one. I bought this laptop for my 15 year old son for Christmas. He mainly uses it to play minecraft and surf the web. It works great for non resource hog games.
