Got an incredible deal on a basic Lenovo laptop!

On sale, it's true, at the right moment, having had a similar computer stolen, and believing it was too early to invest in the next grade up and latest replacement model. So, for an incredible price I was able to grab this one. Just out of stock in the store, so I was helped to order from the warehouse online and within 48 hours I was back up and writing away with a this new model! A very workable option that is also lightweight and feels responsive, flexible with a pleasing each of touch on keys. I am thankful that there is knowledge and actually real understanding in that BestBuy department when it is needed.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 130S-11 laptop is an entry level, light use system with its Intel Celeron processor. It is not meant for multi-tasking or demanding programs. It is good for Microsoft Office and light internet browsing. This model ships with Windows 10 S-Mode Operating System. Windows 10 S-Mode provides added security by only allowing APPs available ( and therefore certified by Microsoft) at the Microsoft Store. If you don't need the added security or you need to install APPs not available at the Microsoft Store, you can switch to standard Windows 10 Home 64-bit Operating System, at no additional cost. We recommend you check the requirements and compatibility of any software you will be installing on your new computer, before you invest in any computer. Be sure your new computer can support the software you will need to use. Lenovo

    Great work and travel laptop

    |
    |
    Posted .

I typically use a full size Dell laptop that is hooked up to 2 external monitors but lugging that bulky thing around is a pain. I work as an attorney and need something portable, light, and with good battery life, to bring to court. I also travel a lot so something that can sit up on a airplane tray table is great. This does all those things. I can run MS Word, Outlook, Chrome browser with my cloud based case management software open, along with Gmail, FB, and a couple more random tabs, and Adobe XI in the background and it all works! There may be a slight lag here and there, but its nothing to fuss about. Start up is also super quick upon sleep mode, like 2 seconds and you're back online. I hardly ever do a full shut down or hibernation. This is an upgrade from an old Asus 11.6 that had Windows 8, Pentium i3 and 500gb HD. The SSD on this, paired with the Celeron work better than that old system even though this has a weaker processor. It is also lighter and thinner. Its really comparable to my wife's MS Surface. The screen is also great (for my use). It is matte which I prefer because it is easier to see in the sun light. The keyboard is also very sturdy with no flex, well spaced buttons, and good springy response. The screen dims super dark as well which is awesome if you are in a pitch black room or dark plane. Its very easy on the eyes. The track pad is just ok. Sometimes it jumps a bit when trying to precisely click on something, but I get around it by using single click, keyboard shortcuts, or a mouse. The track pad also gives a very illicit feedback when pressing the button. You clearly hear it. Something I like. Audio and webcam are awful. But since I'm mainly using this for work stuff, that is a non-factor. It automatically downloads a bunch of apps upon set up that you have to install, so get ready to spend some time clearing everything. I also immediately uninstalled Windows 10S and switched to the regular version which is free to do. It took a couple minutes and I haven't seen any performance negatives. Power supply is a single unit and moderately bulky. A little bigger than an Apple block power supply. But still, much preferred than the old two cord style ones. Overall, this is one of the best purchases I've made. I'm really happy with it and it makes for a great work or travel laptop. If you plan on gaming, running software to code, etc., this is not for you.

    Excellent little Laptop

Along with everyone else, I have to give major prop's to this little laptop. The screen is super awesome, the keyboard is more than functional. Heck I'm writing this review using it. Hardly any mistakes. Of course, I'm missing the backlit keyboard but that is okay...for what I paid for this...this is awesome. OMG, I just love it. The entire experience so far as been nothing short of amazing. For what I paid for this little thing, I only wish I purchased two of them now. Being a Total Tech Member I did get a 2 year extra warranty and I'm still under two Benjamin's (not sure I can write the price I paid for it in a review). Folks, seriously, as long as you have a proper use case for this, you will love it. Regarding Windows S. Makes no difference to me. I have a use case where I use this in the kitchen and check a few financial websites and enter my numbers into a spreadsheet. After that review my Facebook and check a few other sites. For that, it works...and this laptop doesn't clutter up our kitchen. This, btw, replaces a 17" HP Envy. Give it a try if you can...and Best Buy is always so great in returning a laptop that doesn't meet your expectations. Three words...just buy it! :-)

    good for what I needed

I needed a Windows 10 computer just for work and word processing. This does the trick. I do still hate Windows 10 overall, but for what little I need to do with it, it doesn't bother me. (This computer came with a trial of Office 360, but I'd rather use the free LibreOffice programs, and they work just fine on this.) The size is pretty small, but that's an advantage to me. When folded, it's about the size of a tablet. Very lightweight and portable. I ended up taking it on a trip instead of my other, slightly larger, laptop. I didn't find the keyboard to be too small to use (no worse than any other laptop keyboard, anyway). I got this on sale for $140, so it was a great price and does just what I needed it to do. It doesn't have much extra utility, with the limited RAM and storage, though. The screen size/resolution was too small to comfortably read at first, but there's a setting to make the display 125% instead of 100%, and once I switched that on, it was fine.

I have to say... at the price, i was super suspicious. Now that I have it, I can't believe how good it is!!!! The screen is an adjustment for sure, especially if you are used to slightly bigger screens like me. But it is doable if you tweek a few things. I took it out of S immediately and applied my own security settings and such and got Office. Everything works great. At 4gb of ram, i genuinely do not notice any stuttering or slowing. I'm used to 8GB ram systems with dedicated graphics, and I LOVE this thing. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a gaming powerhouse. Do not expect heavy duty computing, gaming, etc. However, I am able to watch videos, stream, do my work and research - all at the same time and seamlessly. The keyboard is very comfortable to use and doesn't feel cheap at all. The lightweight feeling of this computer is SO nice for travelling. I can not be happier with this purchase. For the sale price, I couldn't get anything better than this!!!

    Great for travel

I often use Chromebooks while traveling and at home, and they are great for simple browsing but lack software I sometimes need while traveling - particularly any ability to play .MTS (AVCHD) videos recorded on a HD camcorder. Windows has that functionality built in, and the one-year subscription to Office 365 was a nice touch, giving me enhanced functionality to view and edit e-mail and documents for work occasionally (I use a more traditional laptop for straight work travel, however). Software functionality and Windows versatility, combined with compactness, apparent durability, respectable RAM and file storage capacity, and finally Deal of the Day price - made this an ideal buy for my purposes. Another minor nice touch for me is the electrical plug/adapter. At first I wasn't thrilled about the old-fashioned large brick that plugs directly into the outlet, but after some time I think it is the lesser of two evils because it eliminates the annoyance of having two cords with a brick in between. The one minor downside is that the screen seems pixelated in kind of an odd way - like there is a clearly discernible grid pattern all the time. I am well aware of differences in resolution vs screen size, etc., but I have not noticed this effect on any other LCD screen including higher-end 720/768p laptops and TVs. Maybe it's just me, but worth mentioning. Overall, though, I certainly recommend this, especially if you get a good sale price.

Because of its size and weight, I bought this laptop to serve primarily to download photos from my DSLR, but not I used it for much more. Win 10 Home S mode runs just as fast, and while traveling in Europe this summer, I felt more comfortable logging on to Wi-Fi networks knowing that no executable programs could be installed outside of the Windows Store. Adding to that the free 1-year subscription of Microsoft Office 365 makes this laptop an incredible deal (especially if you get it on sale at the $150 or less price point). True, it only has the 64gb eMMC drive, but 128gb micro SD cards are always going on sale, so eventually I picked one up for about $20 and now I'm all set. Would definitely recommend this computer.

I was looking for something that I could use to work on documents while on the road that was compact and held a good battery charge. I work a lot on minutes and basic spreadsheets. Been using this device for over a month and love it. At this price point it should be easy for folks to understand this is not a full powerful computer, but for single threaded tasks while on the road or just sitting on the sofa, this is a great option.

    Excellent small laptop

I've had a few of these 11.6 inch low cost netbooks/mini laptops over the years including the HP stream 11 and the Dell inspiron 11 and this Lenovo 130s is the best one I've bought yet. It is faster than both of these older models.... almost twice as fast as my Dell it is replacing.. judging by loading of Firefox and the feel of the operating system. It is also louder and overall nicer.. and has a power button light to let you know it is on. The Lenovo comes with Windows 10 S which I immediately changed to Windows 10 home which was very simple. It comes with 64GB of memory (4GB of RAM) which is more than enough to do the annoying twice a year windows 10 feature updates. As I mentioned, the processor is fast and snappy for this price point and better than other netbooks I've used. Overall, I'm very impressed with this small Lenovo laptop/netbook. For what's it worth, I was considering a chromebook and compared the Samsung 3 with the Lenovo MT8173c 2 in 1... and the Lenovo was way better - faster, louder - as well in this department. I decided to go with a windows 10 computer since it has more options. I'm glad I chose the Lenovo. Based on this experience, I will be seriously considering the Lenovo brand in the future if I need another laptop. Thank you.

For the price, this is a no-brainer for everyday use like surfing, emails, watching movies and homework. I removed S mode and installed Win 10 Pro and Office 2019 Pro on it and the laptop runs smooth. So far, it handles tasks just fine even with multiple browser windows open and other applications running in the background. Love how light this machine is. The battery lasts around 12 hours with mixed use. Lots of USB ports (type C and USB 3), an HDMI port and a micro SD port to expand storage by an additional 128GB. The keyboard is great to type on even though it isn't backlit. Webcam quality is quite good. The screen colors aren't the best when looking at it from certain angles but at this price, it is to be expected. Definitely worth every penny and then some!

This has been a great little notebook for me, it serves it's purposes well and get the job done for me. The display is great for my uses and a full charge will last for a bursts of use, if put away with a half charge i have left it shut down for a couple of weeks and it still had enough charge to boot up unplugged.

For the money you can’t ask for more especially when on sale. I switched it to full Windows mode. I have installed various windows system updates. It is presently running the latest version 2004. The key here is to run a full system cleanup afterwards any you will always have at least half of you 64GB of storage available. The other key is to purchase a 128GB micro SD card for additional storage in the available slot. I have yet to run out of storage on this laptop. It is not upgradable except from what I have read there is an open NVME slot. I used it for emails, web searches and word processing on Word. I have office 365 installed. I also have Duet installed for use with an IPad in a dual monitor setup. This little Lenovo has all day battery life and is aesthetically very pleasing. It is just a sweet little gem.i highly recommend it.

I had the Lenovo 100s for about three or four years and really liked it. l The 130s feels very similar -- nicely sized, satisfying to type on, and pretty quick for a $160 computer. For what I need to do (writing, sending emails, some light photo editing, occasional video or music streaming), you can't get a better deal. My only complaint is the amount of bloatware that the computer comes with -- I spent about 30 minutes deleting apps from it when I first started it up. Oh, and the new Windows 10 insists that you give it an email address, which is lame, but that's Windows' fault, not the computer!

My wife and I got this for our middle schooler for her first personal laptop. I wasn't looking to break the budget, but wanted windows instead of a chromebook. This won the competition there. So we purchased it. It is a windows and I am a rather tech savvy person so setup was a breeze. The machine works really good for only having 4GB Ram. The Intel processor helps the little thing go smoothly. My personal/work computer I came from had 12GB Ram and an I7 processor, but this little thing doesn't fall too far behind in terms of performance. I like that it can run in Windows S mode. I wanted to give a a few weeks of use before writing a review to let apps and programs get installed and see if loading the memory would bog performance, but so far, so good. So if you are looking at this product and wondering if it "will do", it likely will, especially if its just a personal thing for a teen.
