I felt as if I was Goldilocks searching for the right computer, and I am glad that after purchasing and using one of the Lenovo Yoga 15" models, I opted to return it because of it's known fan-noise issue and purchase this ThinkPad. It's a really powerful computer -- the SSD drive is extremely fast, there's virtually no boot-up time, and transferring data is a breeze. I am a PhD student and I am able to connect this laptop to my HD monitor using an HDMI cable (no adapters necessary) for research and writing. However, I can easily get upwards of 6+ hours of use with just the battery alone. The computer itself is a little heavy, but it's worth it. It has all the features and durability of the ThinkPad at a really competitive price. Also, it has a Wacom stylus that is great for taking notes, marking up documents, creating digital signatures, etc. Overall, I am really pleased with this laptop and I feel like it is the right machine for me. Durable, high-performance, fast, and practical.

Great Until the BSOD

I am a fan of the ThinkPad series of computers. There is just something to be said about their design and distilled professionalism. I loved the keyboard mouse-nub in the past and it is still great today. Everything about this computer was great when I got it. The 14 inch screen gave a lot of screen real estate while not being too big or heavy. The connection ports are plentiful, and the pen/tablet format was implemented really well. In addition, Lenovo has included some solid software on this laptop that are genuinely useful.
I was really happy with this computer until I got my first Blue Screen of Death. Now I took this one in stride even though I had not seen a BSOD in quite a few years from any of my other computers, I had just upgraded the operating system from Win10 to the new Creators update so I knew it could have been me. What really bummed me out is that through the whole process of trying to restore the computer without losing too much I eventually had to do a complete restore. Now this is just after I had gotten everything just the way I liked it and had installed a ton of programs and files. But, I got everything back and running again with a clean version of vanilla Win10 and built everything back up again. That is when the second BSOD hit and I knew that I was done.
I'm not sure what it was. When it crumped it did not throw out any identifiable error codes so I'm still baffled by what caused it. Now I've always known that if a gadget is going to go down due to a hardware problem, it is probably going to happen early or not at all. Perhaps I just got a bad copy. I didn't knock off more than one star because despite this error and the fact that I exchanged the computer for a different one (this was the only 14inch ThinkPad they had in the area), this was and is a really nice computer and would have been a great work computer. I think I just got a bad one and that happens some times.
That being said, Best Buy was super awesome about the exchange and got me up and running on another laptop that I love just as much (a review of it will be coming as soon as Best Buy asks).

This sounds like a compatibility issue with either installed programs or the Windows 10 upgrade. We recommend a restore to factory settings again. Then verify all of the programs you are installing are versions compatible with Windows 10. The Creator's Update of Windows 10 may also require updating some drivers on the device. Follow the link below to look for new driver updates for your specific system. You can also run diagnostics from the Lenovo site as well. As always, be sure to create a restore point on your system before you make any changes. You can do this by just typing "restore point" in the search window within Cortana and follow the link to create a restore point. Bought to replace my wife's 5 year old laptop. Quite an anvancement since then. The touch screen is awesome! First solid state hard drive I've had which seems to speed up the computer. Lightweight. Converts into a tablet that is useful when in a chair with no flat surface to set the notebook. The one con is no keyboard. She rarely needs one, but I purchasesd a Bluetooth keyboard just in case. This notebook uses the features of Windows 10: touch screen, tablet conversion, stylus that writes on screen, etc. As a Mac user personally, I feel Windows has an edge on Apple with these new notebooks. I've even thought of converting back to Windows-well almost!

The Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 14 Skylake is a great product. The name is confusing - not all Yogas are Thinkpads, and not all run Skylake. Also, not all have the Wacom digitizer that allows you to use the pen AND multitouch, so look at the model numbers carefully. Only downside is you're basically stuck with 8gb ram.
If you produce digital art / animation / illustration, which is my main purpose for the device, it is a FANTASTIC travel companion - like having a digital piece of paper. I will use this over a Cintiq Companion any time. Definitely buy the Lenovo Pen Pro though - the attached pen is small and basically just a backup for when you forget the pen pro.

So I travel a lot.. i had a 15.6" inch laptop but sadly couldn't use it on any airplane. Behold this laptop, I can work on the plane now... The built in stylus is pretty good, but doesn't always seat correctly. So you have to use your nail to push it in..
other than that, I have no complaints after using this laptop for almost 2 months. I can do some light gaming with the discrete GPU, wish it was a better card.. but it's a small laptop so I can't expect much power for that.

Laptop is quiet, loads quickly, is thin and light, and if fun to write and draw on. The stylus is nice, but so is the Bamboo pen (bought separately). Writing/drawing works well with using OneNote. Wish I'd had this before I graduated.
I sometimes have problems with the mouse pad, and haven't quite figured out how to use the laptop comfortably in tablet mode (in terms of holding it, since I'm unreasonably paranoid about doing something to damage or get dirt/something in the keyboard). Right after I bought the laptop, my friend bought the same model and she has enjoyed it so far.

This ultrabook has the right balance of power, size, RAM, drive space and features without needing to spend on any additional accessories. Feels sturdy. It is spiffy enough for on the road software development. Keyboard is a dream. And as a software developer, you do not have to remove your hands from the keyboard if you learn to use the red touchpoint. Has a touch screen and can fold over and be a tablet - though a tad bit on the large and heavy side. Has a pen that you can use to write on the tablet - nice sometimes to fill out forms but not outstandingly useful all the time because the software is lacking and the tablet is heavy.

I bought this to replace a Lenovo Yoga Pro2 that is having screen issues. So far it seems to be a good machine. I like the construction of the hing compared to the Yoga Pro2. It seems to be more sturdy. I actually purchased a Yoga 900 and the screen cracked within the first two weeks. This one I am very comfortable with and I am very happy with my purchase. My only complaint is the weight compared with the Yoga Pro2.

Have had this laptop for about a month and so far no problems except the power cord gets hot. With a solid state drive, startup is really fast -- well under a minute to start up from full shutdown, log in, and be ready to use Word. I was reluctant to switch to Windows 10; I still find it a little annoying and don't take advantage of the touch screen, but routine things are now faster and easier. Installation of programs and printers is mindless, copying files from one external device to another is fast, popups and instructions make more sense, and, well, everything is just FAST. I chose this over the somewhat more expensive but lighter weight X1 Carbon principally for a reason most people wouldn't care about -- I really like having 3 USB ports to plug in a mouse and various external devices easily. Finally, I've tried others but just can't find any laptops I like better than the ThinkPads -- wonderful, consistent touch on the keyboard, the incomparable little red trackpoint, just great machines even though for quite a few years now they have been made by Lenovo rather than IBM.

Like the 14 inch size. Nice size screen yet not to heavy to carry on a trip. Had no technical problems. Only disappointments are very minor: never used it in the pad configuration and one hinge stuck each time it’s opened . I view the overall quality as just below an apple laptop but the price is hundreds less . Would buy it again for $900.
