I love love this computer! We have this one computer for 4 different ussers in the house. It keeps up with all the demands. I t doesn't get hot, bog/ slow down, and I love how we can each have our own account with our files and webpages... and it is easy to go from one account to another. The tablet feature is wonderful. This is a very durable laptop.

Great price. Great for why I needed a laptop. The only downfall experienced is battery usage, but not a big deal.

    Battery Life is Terrible

The battery life on this device is atrocious. Battery does not even last up to 24hours! The device is however very practical and everything works well but without a reasonably decent battery life, you need to lug the charging cable around with you everywhere. Never leave your charging cable behind if you own this device. And there's no backlit keyboard?!!!! How can that be?

MY THOUGHTS: I've had it for a few days & all I can say is wow.. this thing is fast & it has a nvidia geforce 940m which is great for mid gaming. Since windows 10 came out & directx12 is here it delivers a better gaming experience with better gaming power to your GPU performance I was surprised how well I ran bioshock infinite 1080p on high settings with anti aliasing on @ 30FPS (DO NOT PUT ANY OF YOUR GAMES ON ULTRA SETTINGS OR YOU MAY OVER HEAT THE LAPTOP, buy a cooling pad just in case you want to hardcore game but i still dont think a cooling pad will help it because this is not a hardcore gaming laptop so wouldn't recommend hardcore gaming). The processor is fast, the screen is beautiful & colorful & from what I see so far the battery life is pretty great. OVERALL: I would say buy this laptop! If your a person who games once in awhile & wants to surf the web & or use this for business or school this laptop is Perfect for you. :)

Great Laptop for Business and Pleasure

Let me start of by saying that over the past few years I've been exclusively using Apple products for my needs. I decided to purchase an new laptop because Solidworks doesn't have a program that will run on OS X natively. I searched some time because I wanted a laptop that was still portable but had enough horsepower to run the software. Cost was also a factor, and that's when I came across this laptop. I was excited to see that it offered the 2GB 940m Dedicated Graphics and the newest 5th generation processor. First thing I did is purchased a PNY 240GB SSD and cloned the hard drive and had it installed. This laptop comes with CacheExpress (a 16GB card) for faster startup with the 1TB painfully slow 5200RPM hard drive that it came with. ***NOTE*** The CacheExpress software and the card has to be removed to install use a SSD. I'm currently looking to replace the 8GB RAM module with a 16GB one. My current setup is: 240GB SSD Windows 10 8GB RAM i5-5200u Although this unit does not include the Digitizer Pen, the display is definitely capable of PEN support. I have yet to purchase one to personally verify it however, Device Manager confirms that it is HID Pen Compliant. I looked at the previous model, and I'm glad Lenovo decided to bring back the classic Touchpad. Everything about this laptop is top of the line and for $999 -minus 10% movers coupon, I consider this laptop a steal. Only things I would change (and gladly pay additional is).... Faster processor...it would be nice to have an i7...Although this is no slouch. 16GB RAM 512GB SSD If you automatically replace the painfully slow 1TB 5200RPM drive with a nice SSD drive you will NOT be disappointed. Boot time to Windows 10 ... less than 10 Seconds Microsoft Word opens instantly Excel Opens Instantly Solidworks runs smooth...especially with that nice dedicated graphics Keyboard is top notch Touchpad is top notch Screen is beautiful

I bought the 4th gen version first and this one came out shortly after so I returned it for the newer version. Here are the differences: 840m vs 940m (getting better performance with 940m) i5 4200 vs i5 5500 (snappier on i5 5500u) much better trackpad on newer version (quieter and tighter) Battery life better on newer version Overall I am extremely pleased with the thinkpad. The keyboard, screen, and performance are all top notch. The laptop is light and has excellent battery life. The screen quality is amazing, deep colors, contrast, and viewing angles. Be sure to disable adaptive brightness and in the intel graphic properties, disable power management or you will get fluctuating brightness based on screen content. Screen gets really bright. Get this laptop. its amazing. Playing games at 1080p med settings and high in some cases

I wanted to love this laptop. I liked the keyboard, for the most part. I did not like the trackpad. I had some weird static popping noises when watching youtube videos but I can't be 100% certain that it was the laptop and not the video itself, though I have not experienced those issues on my old laptop. Some of the issues are software and would eventually be resolved with future updates (GeForce Experience gives an "error must shut down" about 99% of the time. I looked this up and it's a common problem that is not unique to Lenovo.) A few other software issues were easily resolved with some troubleshooting online. The screen takes a long time to reorient itself after being flipped, I mean so long that I am about to give up and turn it to laptop mode again (most of one day, it wouldn't orient itself at all after being flipped, it just stayed upside down. I had to restart the computer several times, over 2 days time, after I thought that all updates must have been completed, before the correct updates installed and it started to work, slowly.) Since I didn't intend to use the touchscreen often, I could deal with this issue. The deal breaker for me was the power adapter - it is very finicky and will give a "plugged in, not charging" message. Apparently, this is a common issue with this laptop - some will not begin to charge until the power is almost totally depleted (1%). I don't want to struggle to get a brand new computer to charge. It's a shame, really. I will be returning this to Best Buy.

I just bought this computer today so I can't say much about the long term usage of the machine, but so far I'm in love. Not only is this machine plenty fast enough and convient for travel and university life, it also has a dedicated graphics card that's good enough for light gaming, light CAD, simulations, ect (all the stuff I do as an engineering student). PS I noticed that even though this model is not mentioned to have a Wacom Digitizer and doesn't come with a pen It is STILL HAS WACOM DRIVERS IN THE DEVICE MANAGER, as well as the Wacom pen calibration software!! I was super surprised to see this.... Best buy should update the product page to mention the pen compatibility. Unfortunetly I lost my surface pro 2 pen so I will have to buy another one to test the functionality but as soon as I can confirm this I will update this review :D

I bought this Thinkpad because of its good reputation for durability. But Lenovo disappointed me. First one came with bad audio jack. Second one came with backlight bleeding issue. On black and grey screens, there is a yellow region in the bottom left corner. The third one had exactly the same screen issue after two days' perfect performance. I suggest you to read another person's one-star review with the same screen issue. And DO NOT buy this model. I think this batch of screens are defective. I will never buy a Lenovo again. I never had a good impression on them. Despite the screen issue, I still like Thinkpad's keyboard, trackpad button design. The 14'' screen is perfect size for portability, watching videos, playing games, and getting work done. Would have been a perfect product.

I purchased one on the 23rd and exchanged it on the 24th. Right out of the box windows would not activate and the speakers rattled like they were blown. The second one had a different set of problems. The mouse pointer would jump to the clock and when I tried to move the track-pad would just jump back. Also the screen had bright grey corners on the bottom of the screen, it was distracting enough I didn't like to watch movies on it. battery was no where near the advertised 7h50m. I did love the keyboard though. I am hoping they fix these problems with their next release and I will buy.

I bought this computer a day ago because of its size and decent specs for its price, not to mention that the student discount applied to the laptop. As soon as I turned it on, I immediately noticed obvious problems with it. This first one that I had suffered from very obvious and obnoxious backlight bleeding with two huge blotches of yellow showing on the left side of the screen, especially in the bottom left. Even though these wouldn't be noticed on any light colors, they were very noticeable in anything with dark(er) colors on the screen. After experiencing this, I ended up going back to Best Buy and exchanging the laptop for another one. I went back home, opened the box, connected AC adapter, turned on laptop and... dead screen. The laptop powered on, but the screen was dead. Defective on arrival. I ended up going back to Best Buy the next day and returned it for a full refund. While I can understand that my experience will not necessarily apply to others, I can comment on the laptop itself. There has been numerous reports of the laptop's problems because of how it is constructed. Backlight bleeding happened to be one of them, and there was also another that involved a faulty component that automatically shut off the laptop if the screen was moved a certain way. While the latter didn't apply to me, the backlight bleeding did in a very obnoxious way. My advice: if you're going to consider buying this laptop, make sure you go over it thoroughly. I was fortunate because I was presented with problems from the beginning and was able to return it for a full refund. Nonetheless, I wasn't happy with this Lenovo laptop and decided to buy a laptop from a completely different brand.
