    Great computer all around

While I've only had the computer for 2 days I am really enjoying it. The computer is fast and quiet. The combination of the 6th Gen i7 and the NVidia GPU, it gets exceptional framerate on games such as League of Legends. While I mostly bought this computer due to being an engineering student and needing to have a laptop that will run Programs such as CAD. Over all this is a great computer and should be able to do anything that you are wanting it to do. Start up is very fast (excluding first time turning it on) that took about 20 minutes to get everything set up. The touch screen works very well and is accurate and responsive. I can easily use the keyboard coming from my Razer Black Widow that I use for my desktop without an issue. It has pretty good speakers better than what most laptops have. The casing for the laptop seems to be made out of quality material. The backlit keyboard is bright enough to be seen in the dark without casing problems with the screen. Over all I would recommend this laptop to anyone who wants a decent mobile gaming laptop, or needs a laptop that has a lot of power for other uses

This laptop is good at best. For 1k price range it comes with a good gpu and supporting hardware. Now when you first get the laptop up and running alot of people get a mathematical error with the intel chipset. Just go into the device manager and update the driver problem solved.

It sounds as though there may be some drivers that need to be updated within your system. If your system will power up, but the screen won't turn on, you might try an external monitor. If you are able to get an external monitor to work, you can follow this link to the Lenovo.com support page to run diagnostics on your system:

Great Laptop for Photo and Video Editing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My HP Envy M6 laptop that I had for about 4 years now decided to go down, so I had to purchase a new laptop. It was running a AMD A10 APU chip and it was starting to give me issues for about a couple of months now. I do a lot of Video Editing and Photo editing and on occasion I do play games. So I wanted a machine that was a Intel i7 quad core with hyper threading. I stumbled upon this model that fit the bill. It does come with only 8GB of RAM but it is DDR4, which is a faster memory. The unit itself is expandable up to 32GB and can use up to 2400Mhz speed. Don't be fooled by the tech specs on the website. Per crucial (memory manufacturer), the unit can expand to 32GB. Only thing that would make this machine even better, would be if they included a SSD in it as well. But you find SSD's now really cheap. I plan on still using the 1Tb that it came with because the computer has a M.2 slot for the new faster SSD connections. In essence, it will make this machine a beast. The computer did also come with a external optical drive, which is nice if you still have older software on discs. The speakers on the Lenovo y700 are amazing as well. It uses JBL drivers that are 2W each with a 3W sub. Over all, very happy with the Lenovo.

At the time when i bought it it was worth 1k and it was worth it. Lasted me 3-4 years until I spilled water into it. Gaming performance was good especially on csgo. Last but not least, the aesthics and the built quality of this laptop is the best I have seen, not even in 2023 laptops are better than it.

I wanted a gaming computer because I thought it would be able to handle video editing software better than other laptops. It did, once I upgraded to a 16gb ram. The 8gb installed ram still causes playback lag. The graphics are nice and clear though. One major, annoying setback - Even if you place the computer in sleep mode, it continues to drain the battery if the computer is unplugged. I don't leave the laptop plugged in overnight, so I typically wake up to a drained battery.

Had a few issues on startup. Downloading drivers and such, Windows 10 related. But once everything was up to date it's quite fast. Plays skyrim with "super High def mod" on ultra flawlessly. As well as all other games like ffxiv, portal 2, starwars games. Cons: the touch pad placement is annoying if you lay down to use this. Power cord isn't very long. External cd/DVD drive (something you gotta keep up)

Like the Machine - LENOVO SUPPORT IS SADLY LACKING

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased the machine from Best Buy just before Christmas 2015. Not for gaming but as a business machine. Appearance is very impressive. Case is slippery, fingerprints easily and is somewhat difficult to grip. Performs up to specs but needed more RAM (additional 8 Gb) to run the stock market programs (3) used daily & simultaneously (Acceptable and not unexpected). Charge cord is pitifully short. Fortunately my old HP charge cord interfaced with the Lenovo charger pack and provided a reasonable length. The lid is a little challenging to open as there is no recessed area in which to place a finger but with a little effort (and a fingernail...if you have one) you can manage. Best Buy includes the Touch Screen and a USB optical disk as part of their package (very handy). The screen clarity and color are impressive. There have been reports of the preceding model running hot. This model runs super cool and doesn't even get warm. Lenovo got that right. In fairness I run high CPU usage and use most of the RAM but don't do any gaming. Plenty of handy external ports and features. The sound is crazy good for a laptop...nice sound. The value of Lenovo's on board software is questionable, insofar as practicality is concerned, but probably more useful than most of the junk included with other brands. The keyboard lighting is impressive and really jazzes up the appearance, particularly under subdued lighting. All in all I like the machine but have this nagging problem with the keyboard. For the first month I questioned whether the problem was real or imagined as none of the irregularities were consistent. Example: Sometimes the left shift key works and sometimes it doesn't. More often than not, the first character entered into a Username or Password never appears. Regularly it's necessary to enter it two or three times before it's visible on screen. It's not unusual to get two of the same characters on screen when a key is pressed normally. The number pad is something else. Example: With the Numlock key inactive (the number pad is off) depressing the "End" key gets you the number 1. Pressing the "Down Arrow" key causes the curser to go the to the "End" of the last character, ie… what the “End” key is supposed to do. The "Home" key works almost all the time What this led to was a call to Lenovo tech support. They do a lot to discourage one from calling...ie.. sending you to their web site, trying to get one to arrange for a "Call Back" etc., anything except answer the phone. I persevered and the penalty was to be connected to a person of unknown nationality who I challenge any English speaking person to understand. So difficult was the language barrier that I asked her several times to "Spell" what she was attempting to say. I was put on hold, while apparently, she relayed the problem to a technician and then gave me the decision. Bottom line, they wanted me to send this new machine to a repair facility to try to figure out the problem. I informed her this was unacceptable as this machine is an integral part of my work day and I spend 12 to 15 hours, five days a week using it. Their answer was either it gets sent to one of their repair facilities or they can't help. Wouldn’t let me speak to a Tech. Spent $1100 and they won’t even let me talk with a Tech? GREAT SUPPORT!!! Never been treated like that in the past and I have owned many many machines since the first IBM-PC came out in late 1981.So...my assessment is good and bad. I believe I've been fair and 100% truthful Hope this helps with your decision. FYI, Lenovo refused to publish this review. Said to submit a new one.

Purchased this laptop about 3 weeks ago. Upon opening and setting up my laptop I found a few error messages, all to do with graphics cards. First one was for the Nvidia 960 and not being able to communicate with the server. That fix was as simple as going to the website and downloading the new drivers directly. The second error was a hardware mathematical issue with the intel card. That fix was also an update to the newest drivers. Running without problems now. The biggest down side was that these updates were not made available until I had already been living with these issues and called tech support once to try and help solve the problem, with no success. Not quite sure why Lenovo doubled up on the graphics cards when the Nvidia would have been more than enough for a long time to come.

So out of box it has a horrible hard drive. 5400 rpm western digital blue 1tb. The bluez are terrible drives. Fail regularly. Super slow. Why they made a rocking laptop like this and put a slow drive in it it beyond me. Should at least have a 7200rpm or a sshd. It does have a M.2 pci-e hard drive socket to add a m.2 ssd and have 2 drives in it but those drives are very expensive currently. Like $380 for a 512. You can buy a standard ssd way cheaper. The laptop itself is fast. Just has a 90 second boot time. So I bought a 480gb sandisk ultra II ssd and cloned it and now its fast. 6 second boot. Plays gta5 smoothly as well as crysis and far cry. So far pretty good. I may do a clean install to get rid of bloatware from Lenovo and the useless McAfee they have. Just use windows defender. It's free and works great. The geeks will try to push other software on you but they really don't know what there doing. They are there to sell. So yes. By all means go ahead and buy. But upgrade the hard drive to a ssd.

    Buyer Beware

I purchased the Ideapad Y700 laptop through Lenovo at the beginning of this month for my daughters 18th birthday at the end of this month. It arrived on 11/20. Upon opening it and beginning the process of setting it up I opened the Nvidia Geforce panel in the right corner and saw that there was a driver update. I clicked update and it immediately gave my an error saying Nvidia could not be found. So I got on the phone with tech support who at first refused to help me because they said I was having a “software issue” after frantically explaining to them that I had just received this laptop today they agreed to take remote control of the machine. After several minutes the technician told me that my graphics card was not fitted properly in and that this was actually a hardware issue and I would need to send back the laptop…WTF! WHAT?!?!...so here I am with a brand new laptop with hardware issues already boxed and sitting on my kitchen floor to go back. I’m left with nothing to give my daughter for her 18th birthday. I truly believe when a company shows you who they really are through poor quality products that you should listen. I’ll be sending this back for refund and investing my money and time elsewhere. The time that I spent on Lenovo should have gone towards giving my daughter the best 18th I could….that I won’t be able to get back. I suggest you do your research before purchasing Lenovo, start with consumer complaints there are a lot of them!

This PC is wonderful for it's price and the specs that you get for it. Though I've never had as many problems with a new PC as I have had with this one. First off, the NVIDIA graphics card required an immediate update but that update would not work. The error said that the graphics card could not be updated at this time, and to try again. Found out that I needed to update to NVIDIA experience center before it would update the driver. The Intel graphics card caused a mathematical error, fixed that with a driver update. Now my latest problem is that the PC freezes/crashes during game play, making the computer unresponsive, forcing a hard boot. This PC is wonderful when working the way it should, hopefully the problems will work themselves out. I do not wish to return it, but I might be forced to.

This is a great looking laptop and a relatively great value compared to many other gaming laptops. The hardware is great for the price, the only exception is the hard drive. The 1TB 5400 rpm hard drive isn't the fastest, but I planned to swap the HD out anyhow. For a bit over $300 dollars I swapped it for a 960GB solid state, and also upgraded to 32GB ram. For those who want a great gaming laptop for the price, this is a good option. For those willing to open it up, void warranty and swap hardware , you can create a very powerful laptop for about $1200 dollars total.
