    Lots of Power

Originally purchased and returned the SK6 model because it didn't produce enough of a cinematic effect (Because it was a 3.1 channel instead of a 5.1 channel like the SK9). The additional channels, including 2 upward firing speakers makes a BIG difference in terms of raw power, sourround capability, and quality. Subwoofer connected easily as ssson as it was plugged in. Bass was a little underwhelming at first, but after adjusting the levels and playing around with the sound modes it seems well balanced now (I have it on "ASC" and Sub to +4). I have it hooked up via HDMI ARC from my TV so dont need to change inputs every time it powers on (also done automatically when my TV is turned on because of the ARC connection). I recently added the SPK-8 Rear Kit and the sound quality has gone from great to amazing! Truely feels like a sourround sound system with the sounds moving around you. Still have to test ATMOS content but I expect that will be even more amazing. Great System!

I want to love this LG soundbar system, I really do, but I can’t. At 500 watts, my expectations were that I would probably be picking pieces of furniture out of the back wall of my living room. Not a chance. I’ve done everything I can settings-wise to get some room shaking volume out of this SK9Y without much success. And I used all the controls on the remote control, the Android LG Wi-Fi Speaker app, and also the hard controls on the bar itself. The subwoofer paired automatically and is working. On a positive note, my preferred method of controlling this soundbar system is definitely with the LG Wi-Fi Speaker phone app. That well designed app works much better than trying to see the soundbar readout from across the living room. Some of the sound presets do pump up the volume some, but then they distort the sound. I mean some of the sound effect presets do have a good sound, maybe even great, but not the room filling, floor thumping sound I had been expecting. Some don’t sound good at all like Bass Blast. I’ll probably never use it. The preset that sounds best is Music with the Movie preset running a close second. My wife pointed out another positive and that is the SK9Y's upward facing top speakers bounce sound off our vaulted ceiling. She feels the sound coming down from that angle is easier on the ears as opposed to being hit with it straight on from the front. We streamed movies from several sources and listened to streamed music through both our LG TV using an optical cable and via a Bluetooth connection with my iPad Pro. Didn’t notice any difference in sound quality between them. I chose not to bump up our Netflix subscription to Ultra HD just to experience the Dolby Atmos sound effect. Maybe if I had, the SK9Y's sound would be more room filling when watching one of the few movies capable of the Dolby Atmos sound. However, that's not our normal TV watching mode and doesn't explain why the SK9Y falls short listening to music. Hopefully, LG can address this volume and sound distortion problem in the future via a firmware update, but right now we’re less than impressed and cannot recommend the SK9Y to others at the $900 price tag. We have three other soundbar systems in our home ranging from $200 to $750 retail. In comparison with those three, this LG SK9Y should be selling more in the $400-$500 price range, instead of $900.

Great sound bar in a room 20x15 with 10 foot ceiling. Some of the reviewers seem to expect audiophile sound quality from a sound bar. Unrealistic expectations are not an indication of this sound bar’s performance and value. Adjustments with the remote are easy. Music and movies sound great. No complaints from me.

This is an overall great soundbar - it was easy to setup and worked right out of the box. It puts out amazing sound compared to other soundbars in its class and is very feature rich. The design is a little on the large side, but I wasn't wall mounting it so it worked out great.

Overall I've been very impressed with this soundbar. It does a great job of filling a space with an impressive front firing Soundstage. While the bass isn't quite as heavy as last year's model I felt it delivered a much cleaner bass than last years model and I think it's well balanced. On the downside like most "5 channel sound bars it doesn't create convincing rear audio so I'd definitely recommend picking up the rear speaker kit. Also the only sound settings I found good were the movie and asc modes. Overall to get something that's as convincing as this one with dolby atmos is a fantastic value verses a receiver system which would cost a couple grand and take up much more space.

For the price you really don't get all the quality you think you would the bass is very subpar compared to the Lg Las855m that was worth the money clear sound and deep bass. Now the surround sound is a good quality paired with the Lg 2.0 that you can buy for an extra 150.00 but to get the full affect you need to use the Hdmi/Arc/Optical connections and your hdmi cable need to be 4k ready to use the atoms sound quality. That's way I give it a 4 out of 5 with out the extra surround sound speakers it a 2 to 2 1/2 stars max.

It's an okay soundbar but it didn't sound immersive without atmos. The 5.1.2 speakers have side speakers but you don't hear the immersive sound from your sides with 5.1 content. They're very front-face sounding speakers. Of course, you can get real surround sound by getting the option surround speakers, but that's an extra $200 to spend. Chromecast and Google Assistant features are nothing new and becoming the norm at this price range. You'll find them on competitor's sound bars as well. It only has one HDMI input. They're totally relying on you to use your TV to accommodate your device inputs. For that amount of money, if you have the room for it, I recommend investing it on a good receiver and speakers for better sound. If you don't have space, go to a Best Buy and try them out before you buy. It didn't impress me, but not everyone's sound preference is the same.

Could be a better product, it has bugs that, stops the audio from the source, the arc function changes the input source, instead of picking up the audio through the primary source. When it works correctly it is fantastic.

Very average sound and Dolby Atmos cuts out period

For the money I spent on this Soundbar and rear speakers, it is very disappointing. When playing Dolby Atmos movies the Soundbar will periodically cutoff. This is very annoying. Also, the SPK8-s recommended rear speakers are very limp. Have them set at max level and they can barely be heard. After spending slightly over $1,000 for this system, I must say it is not worth the money. Oh, I have this Soundbar system paired with an LG OLED65C7P television.

I wanted to love it, but is terribly buggy.

I bought this soundbar to go with a new LG TV I bought around the same time as the bar. I wanted to love it. On paper, this bar is absolutely great. In reality, this product is terribly buggy. It is the first time I'm disappointed by a LG product. I should mention the firmware was updated to the latest version available. Here are the issues I ran into: 1. The sound would entirely cut off from time to time. The problem did not correlate with anything we did. It would just cut off randomly after a while. I first connected it with the optical cable provided in the box. I considered that maybe the cable or the jacks were faulty. So I switched to HDMI ARC. Same problem. The problem also happened when cast a podcast to the bar. The fact that the problem happened while casting to the bar proved to me the issue is not with the connections, but entirely internal to the bar. It also proves that the problem is not the TV because the podcast was cast directly to the bar. This audio cut off would happen at least once per 5 hours of viewing. 2. The center channel went bad while viewing a show. This happened only once. The effect is hard to describe. There was still sound but the dialogue was inaudible. I've seen reviews mentioning firmware upgrades fixing issues with the central channel, but I'll remind readers we were on the latest firmware. 3. The subwoofer lacks presence. I've got a minuscule 5.1.2 speaker set hooked to my desktop computer that produces more bass. 4. The audio processing is generally bizarre. If I'm watching an old black and white show that as produced before the surround technology was even *created*, then nothing should be coming out of the surround speakers, and yet with this bar, the surround speakers would emit audio even when it wasn't warranted.. I wanted to love this bar. I hate returning products, because it means that I did not research the product well enough, and that the time I spent installing it, testing it and then returning it is wasted time. We discussed asking for a replacement, but the number and nature of the problems we encountered strongly suggest that the product was not properly designed, and a replacement would most likely still have most of the issues we encountered.

For $900 it’s definitely not worth it. I have watched several movies and have to crank the volume to 40, which is the maximum, to get that movie theater effect. I have mine connected to an LG OLED. I will definitely be returning this sound bar. “Dolby Atmos” isn’t even that great on this sound bar. It’s just a gimmick. I assume every other review for this sound bar is paid for OR they just don’t know any better. Save yourself the time and money and invest in a real surround sound system.

If you want Dolby ATMOS - AVOID this soundbar

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Just got the 4k LG Oled C8 55" tv. LG had a special bundle when buying the TV, got an LG 4k bluray player and the Sk9y soundbar. Hooked up the soundbar after the tv was delivered and noticed immediately when selecting dolby ATMOS that there is a sound delay. Playing through the xbox there's a second delay and through the bluray player there's a mili second delay. Very annoying. Other's have run into the same issue. This has been going on since 2017 with no fix from LG? So the soundbar need's a firmware patch or the LG WebOS does. But if you want Dolby Atmos, don't get the LG soundbar. It also doesn't provide DTS-X which is idiotic when other soundbars provide both. Right now the only way to get sound sync'd up is selecting PCM. LG please update this audio lag.

This is a mediocre system at a premium price! The sound bar is a decent device, nice mid and highs. Having said this, the low end is lacking... there is no way to boost the volume on the subwoofer without boosting the entire sound system. This is extremely annoying and makes this system fall short of satisfying. If you are someone who enjoys watching a movie with the ground shattering bangs and thuds that shake the floor without having to max out the volume... this one ain't it!

Low Audio Woofer and SPK8-S rear speakers

I purchased this along with a LG SK9000 65" and SPK8-S rear speakers. I received them today. The SK9Y audio level at the woofer and rear speakers are very very low. I need to put the speakers close to my ear to hear anything. I updated the firmware. No difference. I tried using the optical and HDMI cables. No difference. I tried movie and standard mode. No difference. I tried the TV audio PCM and Auto. No difference. I tried the LG Wi-Fi app increasing the woofer and rears to 6 db. No difference. I'm not sure if I have a defective unit or it's a design problem. The TV SK9000 woofers have a lot stronger audio them this

We purchased this soundbar in a package with an LG OLED TV and Blu Ray player last September. I also bought some high speed HDMI cables to be able to use the ARC input on the TV and soundbar, which you need for the ATMOS feature. After 3 months, the processor in the soundbar decided to not process the HDMI input, rendering the ATMOS feature inoperable. Calling LG Customer Service, after some hard resets, I had to ship it to their repair facility times three times. It has been returned twice unrepaired and after the third trip, they said they could not fix it (still under manufacturer warranty) and they did not have any replacements they could ship, so they would send me a voucher for $200 to replace it. Well, how the heck can I replace a $700 soundbar for $200? I can only guess that their customer service people don't understand what breach of a specific warranty leads to. I was transferred to someone voicemail and have still not heard back to discuss this issue.
