Wave guide or "clouding" effect. Buyer beware
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Man, don't buy this TV. I got it late November when on sale before Christmas and was pretty excited. I took it home, had somebody help me put it on the wall, and started watching. There is something called "clouding" or as LG calls it, "Wave guide effect." On darker scenes in movies, you see a blurry white image on various parts of the screen that looks like clouds. I went back-and-forth with LG in the month of January and February trying to resolve the issue. They had a repair person come out to my home three times only for him to say the same thing each time. That there was nothing that could be done. LG took this to mean that there is nothing technically wrong with the television. They indicated that this wave guide effect is a known issue and it's just part of what you should expect in this particular television. I'm not sure of the size or what but it is a very annoying "feature." When talking with the higher ups in customer support, they kept reiterating that there is nothing technically wrong with the television. I kept saying that there IS something technically wrong with the picture. They never budged. Her only advice was to buy a new television. Extremely disappointing.

Definitely would not recommend this model !
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve own a few LG TVs that never had the first issue but when I bought this one it was nothing but problems. The first one had bright areas on the screen which made it annoying. The second one when I opened it up the screen looked like it was hit with a baseball. The third one looked and seemed fine then it started flashing different colors. Then it started to freeze up and restart on its own and then then it had multiple colors with lines on the screen. That was that models last chance for me so I went with a 86inch nano 90 series. I’ve only had it for a couple days but so far it seems great.

I LOVE IT!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is huge! The stats say it weighs 100 lbs. Don't let that fool you. It is very heavy and requires a minimum of two very strong people to lift onto a wall mount. I am very impressed with the image quality, brightness, size, etc. Zero complaints at all after playing with it for one week. My favorite feature is probably the "wii like" remote control pointer.

Great TV for Movies and Games!
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.tl;dr i love this tv. really good price/performance/size value. Delivery was easy and on time. TV is big and thin so you should have a second person for standing or mounting. Picture is great. Sound is great (soundbar or stereo is NOT an immediate necessity). Gaming response time is noticeably snappy. The processor can read and process 2160P movies off a USB drive with no lag or other video problems. Sound codecs are a bit limited, though--the TV seems to prefer AC3--no big deal, but if you're using the TV like I am, you might have to do some format transcoding beforehand. pros: * really nice picture * 82" has a VA panel which is perfect for the right room (75" and 86" versions have IPS screens) * smart functionality, OS in general, is easily accessible * 2020 unit has gen 3 LG processor--works well * reads and processes 2160P from a USB! * snappy, pretty gaming cons: * some reviews mention TVs dead or damaged on arrival, ymmv * onboard sound codec compatibility seems limited. * remote is a little squirrely at first, but is handy once used to it.

82" LG 8500 Series 4K
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After much research this is my daily driver living room TV. The web OS is outstanding and extremely fast but easy to use. The picture is perfect and I have a lot of light in my living room but it does not effect the quality 4K picture on this BEAST. I didn't know how I would like 82" as i had a Samsung curved 65" 2014 TV I replaced. I'm so happy Ipulled the trigger. Everything is so much more clear and crisp. I also needed the 120 refresh rate to watch sports and action movies ad there is no blurr at all. If you want an outstanding TV but can't quite afford the OLED get this one. You will not regret it! And Best Buy had the best deal and great delivery which was right on time. It's the best when a company actually DOES what they say they will do!

Awesome Picture Quality
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am so pleased with the LG 82 inch because the picture is awesome. Fact is its like being on the field during the football games and on the greens during the golf tournament. I researched tv for over 2 months at Best Buy and Sam's club, I say those two places because they always had the bigger screens on display and I could observe them. it came down to a choice of Samsung's Crystal view or the LG uhd with AI thinq with smart remote. both 82" LG was $50 more but the picture was better in my opinion. Also, the sales from Best buy was very knowledgeable and even helped me see the difference in picture quality. Also, best buy will refund me the difference if I can find a better price anywhere. Thanks Best Buy

A Secret Gem!
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 82” is the unique TV in the entire UN8500 series lineup. It offers a full direct lit backlight (not edge lit), a 120hz screen, hdmi 2.1 with 4k120 (may not have VRR but has ALLM) for gaming. It also is the only screen with those features across all TVs that is a VA panel meaning a high contrast ratio for dark blacks in movies, games, shows, etc. The trade off here is this TV does not have a wide color gamut nor does it have a qled or nano particle filter for enhanced colors. Unless you have one side by side you won’t particularly notice this but to put it simply the colors aren’t as deep and as saturated as those newer technologies. With that said you’re talking about a 10% difference in color performance so it is still pretty good. I did not notice any smearing however I do not use any motion enhancements (think soap opera effect). On a review site they did note the backlight flickers at 120hz in that mode causing image duplication meaning you could see smearing or several copies of an image as the camera moves. I haven’t noticed smearing due to any low pixel response time gaming so far so that might be to each’s own. With all of that in mind I just got to say WOW! It is like having a projector without a projector. Movies look awesome, the deep blacks really give it great image quality. Colors are still very good and it is just awesome to see things life size in movies and games. I got this on sale under $1500, it is absolutely worth the money if you have the room.

Great Picture for Home Theater at a Reasonable Cos
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First, I have to say that this TV has an absolutely beautiful picture - And I am a retired electronic engineer who worked in the video and display field for many years. We use the TV in our family room and it’s like watching a movie from the best seat in the house when watching off air TV, Blu-ray, or high resolution streaming content. I was glad that the TV screen is not as glossy and reflective of room lights as my older LG plasma TV was. For my room this 82” (diagonal) TV is as big a picture as I think I could fit into the space. The Web OS built into the set seems to provide all the functionality that my Roku Ultra did so I can watch Sling TV, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Apple TV directly from the set. And it has Amazon’s Alexa built into the TV/Remote. That’s one less remote to keep up with. The speakers are bottom firing meaning the sound comes straight out the bottom. For most TV viewing the sound is as good as you would want without external speakers - It’s actually pretty good. For movies I use the optical output to my stereo and that’s great. Could Use Improvement: The voice recognition seems to not be well integrated with the set functionality. For example you cannot use it to turn on or off captions or change the channel - At least as far as I have been able to figure out. But it can look up random things like the temperature outside like a stand alone Alexa would do. I subtracted one star from what would otherwise be a 5 star review for this. I wish there were a way to drop the functions I do not use from the “Home” menu page to just the functions and services I use (for example I do not personally want the Disney, Hulu, shopping, or sports online options showing - That would de-clutter the menu and be better for my spouse who is not technically inclined. The WebOS is somewhat slower at responding to control changes when I am using streaming services like Sling TV than my Roku Uktra is for the same thing. I have wired gigabit Ethernet service connected to my TV, so that’s not the limitation. It’s not a big deal just an observation. By the way I urge you to used wired Ethernet connections if you have that available, wireless Ethernet is great for portable devices but my experience is that inevitably from time to time all wireless devices have to occasionally reset whereas wired Ethernet is much more reliable.

LG makes some awesome TV's!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this 82" TV for a conference room near one of our executive locations, and everyone marveled at the color and how lifelike the size really projected from the programming. It wasn't long before executives in other locations wanted their own 82" TV's in their conference rooms....so guess what, I ordered several more. We've had these TV's installed for over a month now (August 2020), and everyone loves them. Great product and easy to hang on the wall with a Sanus Wall Mount Kit.

Great value and huge TV.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV needed a little help out of the box. I was concerned about the overall brightness and ghosting when I first started watching it. But after I dialed in the picture it looks amazing. I do recommend buying a chromecast to add to it if you are used to sending content from your phone to the TV. I have two other Vizio televisions and am a little spoiled in that way. The Magic Remote also takes some getting used too. I had to put my children's Roku from their old TV on it so that they are able to use the TV on their own.

Great TV foe the price
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Getting a tv at this size for the price is great. Just dont forget about quality. Though the tv does look pretty great with good colors the blacks are definitely lacking. This makes for a a just ok movie experience. For everything else from sports to gaming it is fantastic. If you are looking for a home theater type TV I might would go for something else. If you are looking for something to enjoy sports and/or game at high refresh rates then this tv is awesome!

I am Happy! So far...
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far, it has been everything I had hoped for. This TV replaced a 65" Samsung that had the dreaded vertical lines problem. I have been very impressed with the image clarity for such a big screen. The native 120hz refresh rate IMO outperforms the 65" Samsung that it replaced by far for watching fast moving action and gaming. Now I hope it lasts longer than the TV it replaced!

||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had this TV for a little over 3 months now and I absolutely love it. I wanted to wait and see if there were any issues. Nothing as of yet. Setup was simple, picture is fantastic and with the remote, it is easy to use. Movie nights are great to watch on it. This is my 4th LG tv I have purchased and looking forward to see what else they’ll come out with.

Best 120hz 4K display for your money
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this TV for PS5 and PC gaming at 4K 120hz, and it has been exceptional in the first two months of ownership. Easy to mount, easy to set up, and most importantly IT LOOKS INCREDIBLE. I implore anyone who buys this to go watch Planet Earth 2 in 4K right away.. it will blow your mind.
