I currently have a (1st gen.) Google Nexus 10, and have, for the most part, been pretty happy with it. However, I'll be the first to admit that a rather-bulky 10" tablet is always ideal. It's taxing to hold with one hand for anymore than a few minutes and doesn't always fit in with a busy lifestyle. So, I decided to find something a bit more portable.
I spent some time with my sister's Nexus 7, and while it's also a very nice product, I realized that without my glasses I had a tough time seeing the fonts on such a small tablet.
Which lead me to look at the mid-sized tablets, namely the G Pad 8.3 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. I opted for the G Pad because it was much lower priced for about comparable product. In fact, if you can get around NOT having a nifty stylus, this tablet beats the Note 8 in just about every imaginable way.
The screen is excellent. Very high resolution and plenty bright. It's 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 chip is very fast, much faster than the 2 Gen. Nexus 7. While LG's software modification's might not be everyone's cup of tea, I've disabled the apps and programs I don't like, and have been pleasantly surprised by others. Multi-tasking is great, though not quite as "split-screen" as Samsung's. Watching movies or TV shows is awesome!! In my opinion, it's just as luxurious as watching on my larger 10" tablet, but more enjoyable since my arms don't have to hold it up.
I do have a few negatives, but I've come to realize they're pretty minor. One is the pathetic sounding speakers. Most tablets and phones are guilty of this, but it had to be mentioned. There are, in fact, two speakers, but both are on the back of the tablet, so they're firing away from your ears. This makes their tiny sound even worse than it really is. I rarely use the built-in speakers though, so this issue is pretty insignificant for me personally. Another issue is the complete lack of available accessories. Even buying a case isn't as easy as it is for other tablets (Nexus 7 cases, for example). Even Best Buy doesn't sell any cases (Gasp!!). Ebay sells some, but you're always rolling the dice with no-name, eBay cases.
Other than those minor annoyances, I've been extremely happy with this tablet. It's everything I want, in that perfectly-sized package. If you're on the fence about this tablet, I'd say jump on it. I got mine from Best Buy, after they were nice enough to price-match NewEgg's price of $279. Not quite the steal that a Nexus 7 is, but you're getting a lot more with the LG. Cheers

After 6 yes 6 defective Google Nexus 7 tablets, I gave up on them (Asus) and really pleased I did! This G Pad is better in every way.
The HD screen is awesome bright and clear as my retina ipad. I wear glasses so even at magnification no pixels are viewable. Its got a really nice aluminum back thats very light and easy to hold in one hand. I tested the ipad mini but its 4x3 ratio is too wide in my view.
One thing review sites have not mentioned about the G Pad is how blazing fast it charges the huge battery! Just upgraded to the LG G2 phone a few weeks ago and ive been so impressed with it over my old sam note2 that I knew their tablet would be awesome.
Setting up qpair with the phone via bluetooth (works with any android phone) was a bit tricky but it works petfectly. I get texts from my phone on the tablet and respond to them as normal same for phone calls! Very Cool!
It was easy to setup but the tablet required an update to the qpair app out of the box, so the process failed the first time, but the 2nd time no problem.
I also just connected the tablet to my 60" TV with an hdmi slim port adapter and it looks perfect clear and full HD 1080p! I cant use the new wiress miracast because my Sharp TV doesnt support it. With a bluetooth apple mouse connected, its just like using a laptop.
One thing, the tablet shipped with a clear screen protector. I noticed the screen keyboard wasnt 100% responsive, so i took it off and it instantly made typing and everything on the screen very accurate, fyi.
Everyone wants the new ipad i guess, but im over it and really dislike ios7.
I need to attach/upload documents through a web page and cant on the ipad but no problem with Android.
Last point on the G Pad - it does have GPS built in without using wifi and i tested it today and it worked perfectly. This was the source of many many problems with the google nexus 7 tablet, had a great screen and lower price but ugh, not worth the trouble in my view!

Great tablet, high quality compared to the plastic galaxy tablets. I was a bit skeptical in purchasing this vs an iPad Mini but for the price, you can't go wrong. The display is much better than the Samsung tablets and the tablet is very fast. I really like what LG did with the Android OS - everything including menu options are simple and where they should be.
The battery life is also great, much better than my 1st gen iPad 3.
This makes me want to ditch my HTC One for a LG G2 phone. The only complaint is that both left and right speakers are on the left side of the tablet on the back, and they aren't very loud. However, the speakers don't matter enough to me to give it anything less than 5 stars.

No stores in Albuquerque had a LG G Pad 8.3 on display. Best Buy had the product but not displayed on either 11/3, 11/4, or 11/5. Finally I just bought one so I could see what it's like (I have 15 days to return it). But .. I probably won't return it. I like it. I tried a Kindle HDX 7. Its display was just too small and its use approach was too restrictive. But .. It's audio is better, its video is somewhat better, and loads quicker than this LG G Pad (not saying the G Pad was bad in those respects) But I love the fact that I can carry this large screen device in my inside jacket and coat pockets (front pants pockets too). Also, it was important for me to have a tablet with GPS - other wi-fi tablets I looked at don't have it. And .. I don't have to pay more yet to get 32GB or 64GB of storage (if I need more than 16GB this device has a memory card slot).
In general here's what I like about the LG G Pad: Its display is plenty big and exhibits high quality for reading, video, and productivity. It's use is very intuitive. And, a big benefit over the Kindle is its easy access to Play Store. One thing I always liked about the iPads was the ability to put any internet page I wanted on my desktop. On this device I can do that too (I've got the NY Times, the Washington Post, and several more sites of interest on my opening page - a quick double click and there I am). I'm giving this LG G Pad 8.3 an A. I'd give it an A+ if its audio was better.

I really wanted to like this tablet. But at the end of the day, I found that it has some issues and I think it's priced about $100 too high.
The #1 issue with this tablet is the screen quality...perfect size and a good resolution but the screen is very dim and displays colors too warm. Reading a book on Kindle your pages will be either a dull gray or a dingy yellow--depending on the brightness. You can't get the pad to be bright enough, not sure if LG limited that to save on battery or what.
The LG version of Android is one of those cases where it would have been good to just leave Android mostly alone--like the Nexus 7. There are a few decent features like QPair and Knock On, but overall the LG skin is an ugly disappointment.
Wifi performance was not good for me. Tablet worked ok in my house, would sometimes drop connection. However, in hotel rooms it could not keep a connection at all while my phone and laptop had no problem and showed very good signals.
Finally, the thing that made me return the tablet was the way it was built. I didn't like the smooth metal back (very slippery to hold) and the sides of the tablet were not flat, but angled in such a way that it felt like it was "biting" into my fingers after only about 10 minutes of single handed operation. The metal back also means it is guaranteed to slide off of anything you place it on. However, this may not be an issue if you put a case on it. I don't like the extra bulk a case adds to the thickness of my tablets.
Bottom line is it's an average tablet and should be priced closer to the Nexus 7. Otherwise the Samsung PRO 8.4 is a much better tablet for only $50 more.

Sold my Galaxy Note 10.1 because I needed something a bit smaller. Just got the G-Pad and love it. QPair was a breeze. Five minutes, and everything on my G2 is now on the G-Pad. It's fast, beautiful display. I made a great decision.

I have been using this tablet for 3 days now (purchased the white one from Best Buy) and have been very happy with my purchase! I believe 8 inch is the perfect size for a tablet and with this great screen resolution this one is a real winner for me. This tablet has a great design, the screen responsiveness is outstanding, has all the optimal features one would need. It's a real pleasure to hold, easy on your eyes and fingers. The screen is very sharp (comparable to Nexus 7 2 that I own as well), beautiful and vibrant. I have also played many different games and do not have any complaints at all. And finally I think its price is just perfect for the value you receive. I love everything about this tablet and would highly recommend it.

I was intrigued when I saw this 8.3" tablet. I'd looked at others in this 8 inch size but none of them had the high resolution I was looking for. This tablet is truly just right, very comfortable to hold, and a bright clear screen that sports a 1920x1200 resolution. Exactly what I wanted. LG's overlay on top of Android is a very light touch too, only adding sensible ease-of-use things, unlike other brands where the add-on UI enhancements rob the CPU of much of performance potential. This tablet is fast, clear and lean. Good job LG!

I chose this tablet over the iPad mini with Retina and purchased it for $299 at the store, which is $100 cheaper than the iPad mini. They didn't have any of these on display, so a sales associate got it for me out of the stock room.
I decided to buy this tablet after reading all of the rave reviews on this site and I also wanted something different as opposed to Apple. This tablet has so many features it's unreal. I haven't used the universal remote function, but I plan to try it out soon. This is my first Android device and I am very pleased. I don't use a ton of Apps, but I was able to find all of the same apps that I used previously on my iPod Touch. After several weeks of heavy use, I don't regret buying this tablet and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Cases are limited, but can be found on eBay and Amazon, along with screen protectors. The data cable is also a universal micro USB that can be used with many aftermarket chargers, as opposed to Apple devices, which have their own specific cables.

Best Tablet!

After having owned both gen Nexus 7's, and the Nexus 10, this tablet comes out ahead for me. I use it primarily for media and audio sampling. I needed USB audio support which the Nexus tablets do not have without modding. The size of the tablet is just right too (try face planting a Nexus 10 when you fall asleep reading in bed). The screen is gorgeous, and the build quality is killer. I have it Q paired to my Note 3 and G2.
The tablet is basically a G2 but bigger. I know it has the s600 vs the s800 cpu but I can't tell any difference in speed between the G2, G Pad, or Note 3. A+ Tablet IMHO.

So this is my first tablet after reading ALOT of reviews and im VERY happy with this purchase. I was going to go for the samsung galaxy 7 but after reading there reviews and i actually saw ppl returning this for an LG and i can see why! Just look at the rating on this product from the reviews on here, speaks for itself! Your basically paying for the samsung name on those tablets. Lg is defintely coming up! I myself have an LG motion if anybody has used this it was a easy transfer for me since its an LG and a android. highly recommend.
My only small negative is that it doesnt have a flash, but to be honest its a 5mp and so is my phone so i can just use that. I hear ppl complaining about the sound and i do understand that but honestly i dont expect much out of something so small. The bluetooth capable makes it easy to attach to another device or just use the headphones in my opinion.

My first tablet - wow - love it! This is perfect for my business and personal needs, When paired with my Android phone, it lets me know when there are calls or texts. Only thing better than that would be for me to be able to use the tablet as a phone!! It's responsive, fast, and smarter than me!
The only thing I have found so far that isn't so cool is the lack of a flash for the camera. Also, I have a hard time finding the right place for some of the app settings - but that's just my own lack of experience with tablets.

I finally can get my hand on this tablet, the screen is absolutely beautiful, i was planning on getting the ipad mini but after reading reviews on this tablet I decided to order it, now i am more than satisfied the great advantage is that i can use the sd card for extra storage. This tablet cost $50 more than the ipad mini, but its worth it and i love it.

The G Pad has the perfect screen size and it is beautiful! Amazing screen uniformity and color...something the Ipad Mini Retina simply doesn't have. The QPair feature is also impressive, allowing the G Pad to display phone calls and texts that your paired phone is receiving!

This is perhaps the best small tablet out there. For $299, it is definitely worth it. The 8.3 in. screen is perfect, not too big or too small. Perfect for movies, reading, and basic business task. Exactly what I need. Much better value than an iPad Mini, which we have too. Build quality is great, and the speakers are loud and crisp. LG makes some awesome products, perhaps having the best crop of Android products on the market right now. Skip the Samsung tablets, unless you need the S-pen, and go with this.
