Excellent device running pure Android

While it doesn't have the specs to match the Nexus 6P, the Nexus 5X is a perfect device for someone who doesn't mind a smaller screen and wants a lightweight workhorse of a phone with a very decent camera. In my opinion, the 5.2" screen is the sweet spot for smartphones: It's big enough to see everything and get work done, but it's not overly big (like the behemoth Nexus 6 was). If you're used to AMOLED screens, however, you'll probably be a little let down by the IPS screen here on the Nexus 5X. It's not terrible by any means, but the colors do look a little more washed out than on an AMOLED. That being said, the camera on this phone is the best I've seen on a Nexus device so far. Very good, sharp image quality that looks decent even in low light. No lag or crashes to speak of so far. Of course the main reason to own a Nexus device is the pure Android experience. There is no bloatware whatsoever here, and everything runs speedily and snappily. No problems with more demanding games such as Goat Simulator or Republique'. The fingerprint reader works exceptionally well, but to me it seems a tad slower than the reader on the iPhone or iPad. Still, it gets the job done, and that's a minor quibble anyway. Finally, another bonus of this device is that it is compatible with Google's "Project Fi" network, which is the reason I originally purchased this phone in the first place. Project Fi is just awesome and has saved me a ton of money so far over AT&T's data plans.
In short, the Nexus 5X provides a relatively smooth, trouble-free experience overall and is a wonderful device for anyone needing (or wanting) a pure, bloat-free Android experience.

Great phone easy to use

Great phone and I love the size it is between the size of a iphone 6s and iphone 6splus. The phone is easy to use, the finger print scan on the back does take some getting used, kinda preffered it be on the front. No complains on the camera or video. Oh yeah the USB C charge is nice, but it is new technology so you will need to buy extra charger-here is a hint buy adapters so you can still use your old chargers.

Read the Nexus 5X forums - major lagging/freezing

This is absolutely a beautiful piece of hardware and I really love the phone. However, wait till two weeks and it completely starts to lag and stall. Especially the camera is really bad. It will take a few seconds to start up, freeze, lose photos etc and the only way to get it to work again is to restart the phone. At this point I am restarting the phone almost every other day. The forums are really alive with complaints about the phone and Google is not taking any action. Below are two links to discussions on how bad things are.

Stutter, crash, lag

I've used every phone in the Nexus series since the Galaxy Nexus, and thus truly feels like a step backwards. The only virtues of this device, compared to the competition, are the fingerprint scanner and the multi-carrier compatibility (this will work on Verizon, despite what a store rep may tell you). Perhaps 2 GB ram isn't enough for the Snapdragon 808, because this device behaves more strangely than any Android phone I've used. Everything is wildly inconsistent. The camera app will work fine one minute, and then take 3 seconds to snap a picture after pressing the capture key the next. When I open Gmail, half the time the little compose icon in the bottom right gets tiled momentarily and I get a nice mosaic instead of Gmail landing menu for a few seconds. Web browsing on Chrome can be fast or unbelievably slow depending on the phone 's mood and the alignment of the stars. A number of reviewers called out the performance hiccups when they first reviewed the device, but most seemed convinced software updates had ironed them out. They haven't, not by a longshot. I thought my unit may be defective, but other owners on forums like XDA Developers are complaining about similar problems. In short:
PROS:
Good call quality, nice fingerprint sensor, decent screen, carrier-neutral
CONS: Terrible performance, mediocre battery life, unpredictable camera, cheap build quality for the money, too big for a 5.2" screen.
Buy a Moto X Pure Edition instead.

really laggy

I bought this a few months ago, and used it as daily driver for about 3 months, and finally give up. This phone occasionally becomes really laggy (more than once per day), especially when I was trying to use the camera. The laggy is not just a little slow, it is kind like freeze for a few seconds (sometimes more than 5 seconds).
A lot of people have this issue, and no solution yet.
I finally bought a galaxy S6 about two weeks ago, and it is so much better. Faster, better battery life, better screen, better finger print scanner, and most import wireless charging.

Horrible battery life

At first this phone is great, works flawless, how ever i noticed the first day of use I noticed that the battery level of the phone drops unreasonably fast. And I was not even doing anything that would warrant such a drain.
If by some means battery life does not matter to you then by all means purchase this phone.
But you best believe I am returning this phone

Great phone horrible NexusProtect support

I purchased this phone for my son and he was very happy with it until the screen stopped working. From then on my experience with Google and Nexus would make me never purchase another one of their products and I would not recommend them to anyone. We lost internet connection while filing the claim and were not able to log back into the support site. When we called the support site they asked for our email address and they told us it was not the one associated with the account. We have no other gmail account so it was apparently corrupted when we lost connection. We have spoken to numerous people at Google and Nexus and their stance is that if we can’t provide them with the email address that is associated with the account, even though it may have been corrupted, they can’t help us yet they send us follow up emails to the email account that they say they don’t have listed. It’s very frustrating that they don’t seem to have anyone competent enough or willing to help with this situation and will look to more reputable companies in the future. What's worse is that they are saying they can't cancel and refund us for the extended service plan unless we provide them with the email address we don't have.

Battery Life and Perfomance Problems

I have had my 5X 32GB for 3 months now, and I have found that it gets hots and starts to lag when I use it for too long. The battery also has to be charged a couple of time a day (thankfully it has fast charge). I have had nothing but problems with my phone. I cannot recommend this phone for any reason.
