We hate to hear the SJ7 did not meet your expectations. The SJ7 has 4.1-channel speaker system to ensure better sound separation for an all-round experience. This sound bar is actually two separate speakers, and when configured in rear speaker mode, one can be placed behind the listener to provide real front-and-back surround audio. The two independent speaker units can also be stood vertically on either side of the TV, with stabilizing speaker pads. Audiophiles prefer such separation of stereo channels, which allows optimal dispersion of the soundwaves. LG's Adaptive Sound Control can automatically detect what’s playing and then enhance the clarity and impact of the audio. I have a very specific checklist when I go into a purchase for a soundbar. First and foremost it must have great sound - clarity for television show dialogue, richness for music audio, and immersiveness of hearing and feeling the action from movie blockbusters. Second, it must be easy to use, not only easy to put together at initial set-up, but it must be intuitive as I don't have the time to read through all the tiny print of the user manual each time just to understand what all the flashing lights mean. Third, it must be compact, but still deliver loud and quality audio. Finally, it must be good value where the price paid is commensurate with standout features and great quality audio. Enter the LG SJ7 Flex Soundbar. It meets all the criteria I've listed above and then some. What exactly is the LG Flex Soundbar? Is it a 2.1 system or a 4.1 system or a portable bluetooth speaker? Well, its all of them combined into a three piece speaker system that allows you the flexibility to set them up however you want depending on your room and your needs. And it is not gimmicky...I was impressed at how the sound system delivered excellent audio quality in all the different set ups. The speaker system is comprised of a primary (left) speaker, a secondary (right) speaker, and the subwoofer. You can actually configure the speakers in four different ways. The first way is to use the system as a tradtional soundbar unit by joining the primary and secondary speakers together horizontally as a single soundbar. The second way is by orienting the primary and secondary speakers vertically and propping them up onto separate speaker stands that you can place on either side of your television to create stereo separation. The speaker stands are included in the box. The third configuration is to use the secondary speaker as a rear surround speaker in a 4.1 set up while the primary speaker becomes the front speaker. Finally, the fourth configuration is to disconnect the secondary speaker from the power supply and use it as a portable bluetooth speaker which delivers 30 watts of audio power. The secondary speaker contains a lithium ion battery that only lasts a measly 4 hours of playback, and will take nearly an equal amount of time (3hr 40min) to fully recharge. It may sound intimidating and complicated to do the initial set up for the speakers out of the box, but it is surprisingly easy. All you have to do is connect the back of each speaker to its own power cord and into the ac outlets. Once that is done, what you have to do next is press the power button on the primary speaker and slide the switch on the secondary unit to select between portable, rear, and soundbar use. Voila!...you're done and ready to go! Besides the three power cords, the system is communicates with each of the other two speakers wirelessly. You can read up on all the specs for the speaker system on the LG webpage, but I'll just point out some of the important ones to save you the trouble. Physical connection is either through hdmi arc or via the optical cable. There is no 3.5mm aux connection. Wireless connection is through bluetooth. There is no NFC. When connected to AC power, the sound system can deliver up to 320 watts (80 watts each for the two speakers, and 160 watts for the subwoofer), but if you disconnect the secondary speaker from the power supply, the speakers take a hit in output and will go down to a total of only 140 watts in a 2.1 and 4.1 set up. The subwoofer measures 6.7” width x 12.6” height x 9.9” depth and weighs 9.3 lbs. The primary and secondary speakers share identical dimensions of 13.4” width x 2.9” height x 4.3” depth in the horizontal position. (Naturally, when you prop the speakers up in the vertical position, they will be 13.4” in height). And the following numbers are not listed in the LG specs as I did my own measurements: primary speaker weights 3.9 lbs, secondary speaker weighs 4.1 lbs (probably due to the lithium ion battery), power cord lengths for the speaker each measures approximately 10 feet in length, and the sub-woofer power cord is approximately 5 feet in length. LG was pretty generous to provide ample length of power cord and they also included two cable ties to organize your power cables. Onto sound quality, that's the purpose of why you're considering purchasing this flex soundbar system, right? As I mentioned in my introduction, there are several measures for audio quality of a soundbar system. One is the clarity of conversational dialogue. If I can't hear an improvement in sound clarity over my built in television speakers, then it's going back in the box and back to the store. Well, with the LG flex soundbar, the dialogue is crisp and clear. In fact if it isn't as crisp as you would like it, you can make adjustments to the sub-woofer bass, the treble, and the bass for the speakers. Dial down the bass and you'll get better vocal clarity for listening to dialogue. Most budget soundbar systems only include adjustment to the sub-woofer bass unit, but LG included adjustment to the treble sounds as well. This is great feature to have. As for listening to music, audio quality is superb - well balanced with all lows, mids, and highs well represented. Audio clarity and instrument detail are captured very well. Of course you can unbalance things a bit with adjustments to the treble and bass as mentioned above and when you do that, the music comes alive! Dial up the bass and the sub-woofer's low frequencies will thump and vibrate the floor. The bass is powerful for such a compact sub-woofer. Dial down the bass, and turn up the treble and the instrumentals will shine. The speaker system is very versatile in handling the dynamic range of music. Finally, the speakers really rock when replicating the immersive cinematic experience. For watching movies, I either prefer to set the speakers up vertically for stereo separation or set them up as a 4.1 system. Turn up the bass and action sequences and explosions make you feel like you're part of the experience! If you turn up the volume and bass high enough, you'll hear every rumble and may even feel the vibration of the bass along the floor and wall depending on the material composition of your room. You'll enjoy it, but if you have a shared wall with your neighbor, be ready for some complaints. I was truly surprised that for a budget system at this price point, the bass is so powerful. The 4.1 sound system in the LG SJ7 is decent, but cannot compete with a 4.1 system with dedicated left and right rear separated speakers. Some final notes before concluding. There is an onboard screen on the primary speaker that will have a display of the different functions and settings. For example, as you adjust the sub-woofer equalizer, the screen will display that you're adjusting the sub-woofer and will display each numerical value of bass as you're adjusting the bass up or down between -15 to +6. Also, if you select one of the preset equalizers, the display will tell you which equalizer setting you have it set on. The onboard screen is helpful as it elminates having to guess if you've pressed the correct buttons on the remote or whether or not you have even made the adjustments. This is way better than on some sound bars where only flashing lights are displayed making you guess whether or not you did things correctly. The portable bluetooth speaker works well, also having great audio clarity and dynamic range. However, the few shortcomings are that the only connection is bluetooth (no 3.5mm aux), short battery life of 4 hrs, and that it is rather large to really take around outside of the home. So, even though it is still considered a portable bluetooth speaker, I would really reserve its use for different areas of the home such as a kitchen, bedroom, or dining room. It's also not designed to be rugged and it has no waterproofing or water resistance, so this speaker should stay indoors and shouldn't accompany you outdoor to pool parties. So do I recommend the LG SJ7 flex sound bar? An unequivocal yes! This speaker system is a gem and deserves six stars, not five. The extra star is for being innovative in producing a simple to use, versatile system that has multiple configurations while maintaining great sound quality.

I do a lot of gaming from my PC and watch a ton of movies in my gameroom. I've been looking for a soundbar setup that also includes a sub because some other's I've heard don't really pop that much. Since the TV that's in the gameroom is also an LG, I wanted to try out the SJ7, especially when I saw that the soundbar was actually made of two speakers that you could place side-by-side to form a traditional bar, or move them about in whichever setup works best for your room. My first impression when I got the box was, "How did LG fit all this into this small of a box?" I honestly wasn't expecting all that much because I've been conditioned to judge the power of a unit by how large the box is. The speakers themselves feel weighty and solid, but also light enough that I can move them with ease. The sub was a decent size as well. At first, I didn't see any way to connect the speakers, but the magic of the SJ7 quickly became apparent. The speakers and sub all pair wirelessly with each other. All you really need to do is plug them into power and you're off to the races. The initial set up was ridiculously quick. Plugged them in, turned them on and they all immediately paired with each other. The SJ7 can be connected by HDMI or Bluetooth - since I was trying to make it as slick as possible, I opted for the Bluetooth pairing to my LG TV. Now I have a great sound setup that's wirelessly connected to my TV! You can also connect the two speakers using the supplied Digital Optical cable if you're having issues or want a physical connection. I tried various configurations: a single soundbar look, spaced apart, front/rear set up and spaced apart with vertical orientation. The SJ7 comes with bases for the speakers so you can stand them up vertically - I was expecting some quality loss in sound doing this, but nope - sounded just as good as they did laying horizontally. Getting the sub to the right level of output was a bit more tricky. I had to tweak the settings a bit to get it the way I wanted, but thankfully, the SJ7 comes with a very simple and intuitive remote that makes tweaking and controlling the unit a breeze. One of the major selling points of the SJ7 is that one of the speakers can be unplugged and used as a portable speaker. I did try that, but the overall size and weight of the speakers made this a nice-to-have-feature and not a killer one. The sound was still amazing, but I think I'll stick to my other portable speakers due to weight. All-in-all, if you're in the market for a killer sound system that has features and sounds just as good or better than high priced systems, check out the LG SJ7 set - you won't be disappointed.

The LG SJ7 Sound bar system comes packed with most everything you need for a Sound bar setup for Newer TVs and Players or for Music lovers. The highly protected box includes wired connections, a sub-woofer, 2 speakers, remote and an optical cord. Setup looks to be easy for those with newer TVs or set top boxes or players. Unfortunately I have cut the cord so I do not have a Cable box to plug this in to. I use an antenna (could get a converter to hdmi but that’s another $40) I do however have a Blue ray player with just HDMI out. The instructions only show you 1 way how to hook up a TV to set top player to sound bar using the HDMI and optical cord. This didn’t help me. I had to play around with different hook ups to get it up and running. So the sound bar only works for my Blue ray player and not my antenna (it is on a different input). This isn’t a deal breaker since it is a smart player and we watch Hulu and Netflix on it but it was certainly disappointing. The box does not give you any indication of minimal requirements like it should. So my advice is if you are shopping for a TV or DVD player, get one with optical inputs as well as multiple Hdmi to have everything work for you with this unit. After you connect to your main speaker you can then via a switch on the back of the secondary unit decide whether or not you would like to use it as a portable (Bluetooth speaker), Rear (surround sound) or as a sound bar. The following are the tests that I ran: Sound bar mode: Note should you run off battery for the second unit, some sound was diminished, leave the unit plugged in for the best scenario. Make sure the switch is set to sound bar mode on secondary unit. The sound was loud, pretty good. You have to play with the controls to get it setup to your liking for your TV viewing area. I ran the bass, treble all the way up, it sounded much better. Surround sound usage: Note remember to plug in the secondary speaker for the best results. The surround sound setting seem to be a good choice along with Cinema for the pounding bass of action movies, dramas and other movies will do fine on Standard mode. Rear setting: to get the secondary unit to be a rear speaker just flip the switch on it and turn the sound up. I was not impressed as I thought it should be louder. The front speaker was considerable lower forcing me to turn the sound way up. This might be better in a small apartment or a basement type setting. If you are having issues with trying to figure out best settings, I would recommend using the ASC (adaptive sound control) setting. This setting adapts settings to what your are viewing. Portable Bluetooth: The secondary unit has a built in battery that lasts about 4 hours (I wish this could be better, 4 hrs. is not enough.) Plug this in for extended play. With the secondary unit used as a portable speaker. The sound was ok, not great, but ok. When I used the main speaker with the sub-woofer for BT streaming. I was impressed. If you have both set up as BT make sure the second is off or it will default to it instead of the main speaker. To use both speakers for BT switch the second back to sound bar. Directions didn’t say this but I found this to be Awesome sounding and the only way I use it now for BT. You will not be disappointed. Another note, this system uses 3 plug ins, if you have a Blue ray or standard DVD player and a TV that would put it at 5 plugs, it would be a good idea to get a good power strip for your protection. Using the remote: you are able to adjust the levels of the rear for the surround sound, adjust the sound for night viewing in case you have kids sleeping or the window open and don’t want to wake the neighbors. You can also turn off the surround sound function, AV Sync, Syncs the Audio and video so the people do not look like they are bad at lip syncing. And Auto volume . In conclusion I Think the unit is ok, great for smaller rooms maybe not big living rooms if you are looking for a full surround sound with rear speaker as I think the rear needs to be louder (not loud enough with it turned all the way up) like I said I would recommend this to friends and family who have smaller rooms.

I chose to use this unit with my computer to enhance its sound effects. Suffice to say, I did not apply the traditional TV route. LG did a great job of packaging and making things user-friendly. However, I made my first connection with the secondary speaker via Bluetooth connection by incorporating the “portable” connection which my computer instantaneously recognized and paired successfully. Thereafter, I tried to enhance the sound with the sub-woofer and I didn’t obtain any results, because I should have paired the primary speaker which would have saved me some time. After discovering my backwardness, I lastly and successfully connected the sub-woofer successfully and the sound on my PC was upgraded immensely! The following are my pros and cons from experiencing the unit thus far: PROS: -Connects well via Bluetooth -Enhances your system’s sound effects immensely -Can work in versatile ways -Coordinates well with existing computer or TV equipment -Secondary speaker can be stand alone and/or integrated with primary speaker -Speakers and sub-woofer have great size that can fit in most settings easily. CONS: -The only con that I see is that the secondary speaker doesn’t hold a charge long. I discovered this after playing only 2 or 3 songs. In fairness, I don’t know if LG didn’t fully charge it before shipping, but I thought something had gone wrong when all the system needed was a charge. Yes, I highly recommend this unit for PC, Mac or TV usage whatever fits your needs. I can attest that the unit does very well when streaming music and playing stored songs in which I have my songs stored on the clouds in Dropbox, One Drive and Google Drive. The "flex" is very befitting to this unit as it offers a great deal of flexibility!

The LG Soundbar Flex appealed to me in the first place because I love LG products, and the "speaker bar" didn't have to be used as a "bar." Instead, the speaker bar could be separated at the middle and each piece could be stood on its side so they we more like freestanding floor speakers. I got way more than I bargained for though. In addition to being able to split apart, the Soundbar Flex has even more...ahem...flexibility. The Soundbar Flex gives you the option to keep on of the two parts on the "soundbar" near the TV, while the other piece can go behind you, establishing a 5.1 surround sound evironment that easily fills a standard sized living room. There is yet another option for your speakers as well: the second speaker, that would be used in the back for the surround sound setup can also be used as a wireless Bluetooth speaker. Yes, the second piece of the soundbar can be taken anywhere, as it features a rechargeable battery, giving you an emergency outdoor soundsystem for that last minute party. Other than the flexibility of the speakers that make up the "soundbar," the Soundbar Flex also features a wireless subwoofer to give your living room sound a much needed extra kick. The LG Soundbar Flex should more than fill your soundbar needs, with some added flexibility.

The LG - SJ7 Sound Bar Flex Wireless Speaker System for Streaming Music – Black is an excellent addition to any television and sound system. I connected it to my Vizio HDTV by using the Optical cable included with the components. The sound quality is similar to a smaller scaled version of a movie theater atmosphere. I can hear the different levels of octaves, from the highest to the lowest frequencies. The volume is powerful enough to fully fill a large room with the highest level of quality sound. The sound function can be changed to complement the type of program being watched; from movies to sports to standard to voice there are many ranges to choose from. I connected my Pixel phone to the LG - SJ7 Sound Bar Flex Wireless Speaker System for Streaming Music – Black via Bluetooth. Connecting via Bluetooth was as simple as pressing the function button to BT mode and watching for the LG name on the Pixel to pop up and then tap on it for pairing. I enjoy the quality and functionality of the LG - SJ7 Sound Bar Flex Wireless Speaker System for Streaming Music – Black and plan on enhancing my television and music experience because of it.

    Extremely Versatile

I`ve tested and experienced many soundbars in the past year or so and the LG SJ7 is definitely one of the most versatile I`ve seen. Firstly, the main aspect that stands out is the physical features of the soundbar. I was surprised at how compact this unit was, but it still was built extremely well as this is not simply built of cheap plastic in a box shape as many midrange soundbars are. The versatility of the soundbar is truly what sets it apart though as one can see with their advertising. I was surprised however at how effective it actually was as I had my doubts that it was simply a gimmick. The varying ways that this can be set up is especially great for those first wanting to upgrade their sound system from the default sound produced by their tv as it provides a varying degree of options that listeners can adjust rather quickly instead of being forced to buy entirely new sound systems if the first option they purchase is inadequate. The effectiveness of the soundbar is truly there though as all three options do produce solid and consistent sound, but I personally do prefer the true soundbar form factor option or even the vertical option. The other main aspect that obviously is examined with soundbars is the sound, to which the SJ7 definitely fits perfectly into the upper range of its price range in this regard as it can even be comparable to those in price ranges above it. The voice is very clear and is not drowned out by the bass as is common with some soundbars. The thing I really appreciated is that the SJ7 was able to differentiate the type of audio being pushed through the soundbar. The minor aspects that did add value to me regarding this soundbar were how aesthetically pleasing it was, all the way down to the LEDs built in to visually show the functions of the soundbar. Then the easiness of setup was great especially with the Bluetooth technology being able to connect directly to my LG tv. The aspect of being able to use one of the speakers as a portable Bluetooth speaker is definitely great as well for it eliminates another purchase for a different product that essentially is built into this soundbar already. I found few negatives for this soundbar when comparing it to soundbars in this price range, but the only one that really was off-putting was that the HDMI ports are 1.4 and not 2.0 so that I was thus unable to take full advantage of the 4K and HDR features of my tv using the speaker as my normal passthrough. Obviously, for large rooms you`ll want a higher end sound system for full 360% degree sound, but for mid-size and smaller rooms I can not deter anyone from purchasing the SJ7 as the flexibility and sound quality are great values for the price.

I used this in a room that we use as my son's playroom. He can now watch his shows and movies on his own and the sound quality is very good. We previously had a small home theater (5.1) setup in this room, but I didn't like the idea of wires running around the room with this being a playroom. This soundbar setup allowed me to set this up as a left and right speaker and the sound quality is surprisingly good. The ability to use this as a Bluetooth speaker as well is a cool feature. I doubt it will get used much currently, but as he gets older, I could see how this could benefit him. All in all, I'm quite satisfied with this soundbar setup.

Easy setup right from the box, plugged everything in, no syncing, waiting, just connected right away and started working. Automatically turned on when I turned the TV on. Bass was noticeably good, treble frequency needs some work, but still provides great quality sound. I really like the option to "Flex" the speaker, and use it as a stand alone Bluetooth speaker, its super convenient. By itself, the speaker provides good sound, but the bass is lacking without the sub woofer. I use it in the kitchen while cooking, outside by the pool, basement, etc.

Very simple setup (eventually). I have a Vizio TV in my living room the HDMI would not connect thru. It would not connect to the system at all. I changed to my Samsung in a spare room and it connected right away. The Vizio was set for external speakers, but it could have just been my TV. I did not try the optical cable. The sound is very good, it is in a smaller room about 12x12. Plenty of bass from a small speaker. I set this up first in the soundbar configuration and with the left and right. Both sounded pretty good. I took the single speaker out to my back deck for a few hours. Heard it pretty well over the lawnmower, I am sure the neighbors heard it pretty well also from what they told me later. I coiuld not get this to work with my multi system remotes. Maybe I need to invest in a better remote.

MORE THAN JUST A SOUND BAR!

Upon unboxing, I can tell you this systems aesthetics are great! The set-up and pairing was easy and seemless for me. There are 3 speaker components with this system: -Primary -Secondary and -Sub-Woofer During my preliminary testing, I noticed that the Sub-Woofer didn't seem to produce much sound at low volume levels (under 11 out of 40 max) but was there and it sounded good.....THEN as I approached a volume level of about 16 and higher, the Sub really kicked in and sounded great! Unfortunately it does not have a volume control for it separately. I will say that the entire system as a whole can get quite loud and sounds excellent at all volumes I tried with no noticeable distortion. Perfect for any genre of movie or music or even talk! The system is very versatile in the different ways you can use it, which makes it much more desirable than your typical 'sound bar' The Sub is bluetooth/wireless and can be set anywhere in the room (as far as bluetooth will reach that is) but must be plugged into an AC outlet which is no biggy for me. The main sound bar set is comprised of 2 identical speakers in looks and sound, a Primary and a Secondary and both come with their respective power cords and bases that you can attach to stand them vertically or remove for a horizontal configuration. AND they do look great! The Secondary speaker is the most versatile part of the system in my opinion because it has a selector switch located on the rear that allows you to switch between 3 modes of usage as follows: 1. Sound Bar - acts as the 'Right Channel' in a left and right speaker system 2. Rear - as a rear speaker (set behind you) for surround sound, and 3. Portable - as a stand alone portable speaker that you can tote along with you to pair separately with any bluetooth device anywhere since it has a rechargeable battery that should last at least 4 hours or more. But, you can also tote the power cord along with you and play indefinitely. This system does come with a 4' Optical cable as well but also has connections for HDMI & HDMI ARC (HDMI cable not included) HDMI is 1.4 so you know it won't pass 4K/60p or HDR *With the very affordable cost of this system, I am VERY Impressed with the quality of sound and clarity it produces, I am very happy!

The LG SJ7 system blew me away by its amazing sound clarity and performance. I was extremely surprised at the sound quality that was coming out of such a compact system. I was initially thinking that the sound wasn't going to be so great because of how compact it is, but as they say, "don't judge a book by its cover." The initial setup of the system is far from complex. I was able to get the system up and going in such a small amount of time. It comes with everything you need to get you started, so no need to but extra cables. I really love the dual speakers and subwoofer. It gives yo more adjustment in the room for better sound quality. I am confident that anyone looking for a sounder system with love the LG SJ7 system.

It threw me off that this soundbar is actually two separate speakers The sound is phenomenal from these speakers. Setup was pretty easy. What I liked the most about this is that you can setup the second speaker as a rear surround sound speaker. That feature is awesome. Also I am able to stream via bluetooth directly to the speakers. You can also charge the second speaker and use it as a portable bluetooth speaker. The only issue with this soundbar is that it works with HDMI Arc technology, so if you have an older tV that does not support this functionality, then you're out of luck

    Volume is poor

I tried to be satisfied with this sound bar but its lack of higher volume and bass is awful. It doesn't sound better than my $150 Polk sound bar w/ sub from 2014 that I wanted to replace. I thought the lack of volume was because of the optical hook up to my tv but the HDMI ARC is no better. This sound bar might be cool for an apartment but if you have it in a house look elsewhere. I still love LG as I'm writing this from my G6 but this S7 needs more volume to stay in my home.

This unit has a small footprint and is versatile. I love the fact that it can be used as a standard sound bar, or as a surround sound system, or as a portable Bluetooth speaker system. You lose the subwoofer when using it as portable Bluetooth sound system, because the sub has no battery. Sound quality is excellent, with an optical and HDMI input. I also appreciate that the speakers come with separate stands.
