Great Versatile System, LG!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This LG system was exactly what I have been looking for. All of the TV’s in my home have an area to put a sound bar except my master bedroom – we have a split TV entertainment center area below the TV. With the ability to split the speakers, this works great. See pictures. As for the product itself, LG is back in the game. The sound is quite good though some of the higher sound frequencies could be enhanced a bit. Even with the Sub, Treble, and Bass controls, the treble still needed a little more. PROS: 1. Optical audio, HDMI pass-through. When you have the option for fiber audio out of the TV (and the TV speakers can be turned off), this is the best option soundwise – one that this system allows for. 2. Great bass. Overall clear and full sound. Great for any room in the house. If you’re in an apartment, the neighbors will be asking you to turn it down – it can thump very well, especially when in BASS BLAST mode. 3. SUPER easy setup. Out-of-the-box ready. I plugged in all 3 pieces, powered up the system, and everything was synced immediately. No pairing or other needless processes to get things working. After playing around with the remote (sound preferences, functions, etc), I got it to levels that were quite comfortable in a couple of minutes. 4. The #1 reason (for me) was the ability to split the speakers into a left and right channel. I have 2 areas below my TV in which I can put components, and a full-sized sound bar just won’t fit – and I’m unable to put a full-sized sound bar aesthetically-pleasing in front of the TV based on our setup. This was perfect! 5. The 2 main speakers aren’t completely cordless, and can be limited to 3 wires if LG Audio Sync isn’t used. No one likes wires, but there are 2 power cables (1 to each unit) and the optical cable (instead of HDMI pass-through). If using this configuration, a little cable routing with zip ties will make for a pretty clean installation. 6. The system has an “auto-on” feature. If it recognizes a signal coming in (wired OR BT [Bluetooth]), the system auto-powers up the unit and starts playing on whichever function is actually triggered. To power OFF, you have to manually turn off the unit either with the (a)remote, (b) power button on the left side of the left speaker, (c) via the LG BT app, or (d) after 15 minutes, the unit will auto-shutdown. 7. Uses the latest BT version – BT version 4.0. CONS: 1. Needs some work on the treble frequencies. This is something that can be fixed in the next iteration of SJ# series I’m sure. The highs were only high when I used my phone’s graphic equalizer to amp up that frequency range. It’s definitely not a deal-killer though. It gives me enough treble, but to nit-pick, that’s one area of improvement needed. 2. If using battery-only with the 1-speaker option, the battery will only give you about 4 hours of operation… low by BT speaker standards. NOTES: ** I am connected via Samsung Galaxy S8 & Note8 devices. When connected via BT, I can turn up the volume on my phone to MAX and the number on the LG speaker shows 20. Note that if you use the remote/unit to turn up the volume more, it can be done up to level 40 (MAX). Now if at that point I hit the volume down button on my Samsung phone, it immediately goes down to volume 19. Apparently, the device’s software isn’t quite in sync with the full volume spectrum allowed by the device which I thought was strange. So if I wanted to go higher than 20 volume, I had to do it with the LG remote or left speaker controls. ** BT connectivity was in the normal range of around 30-40 feet before the audio started to skip out. ** Both speakers use small power block adapters but there is quite a bit of thin cord on the speaker hookup side. The subwoofer has no power block – it is a basic power cord that’s detachable. ** The subwoofer fires out the front/back of the unit. Some units fire downwards – this one does not. ** The remote uses 2 AAA batteries. The remote is extremely light in weight. The buttons are soft and do not click. It has great response with the system. ** When powered down, there is a red LED on the bottom left part of the right speaker that remains on. ** When powered up, that same light turns white along with a small LED area on the left speaker that shows what function you are using. When using other functions like volume, surround sound, treble, etc, it will temporarily show that information before showing the current input again. There is no way to manually turn off or dim the white LED display or power lights; however, they are at a comfortable level for me. After 15 seconds of no key input, it auto-dims on its own. It brightens when a key is depressed again. OTHER FEATURES 1. Can be used as a single BT speaker on battery power. This is not very ideal as it shows dirt easily and will tip over easily as well, even with the detachable stand. By itself, it doesn’t pack a huge punch without the subwoofer. I’d go with a unit that’s really MADE to do that type of job. Besides, should you take it somewhere and it get dented or scratched up, then you have one speaker that’s in mint condition while one takes a beating of BT use outside the home – not to mention the fact that if you go on a long trip, it will need to be recharged – and you’ll have to take the power cord for that speaker too. 2. Front-Rear setup. I don’t have that setup at my home, but the remote does offer the option to raise and lower the volume of the rear speaker should you opt to use that configuration. 3. The ability to offer a couple of stands makes the unit look better if propped up, but it can still be tipped over easier than most units. 4. You can only use power cables to hook up the unit (omit the HDMI or optical cables) if you have a “compatible” LG Sound Sync TV which uses BT. Well, I don’t have such a TV by LG that has that technology, so I have to use a trusty optical cable instead. 5. LG offers the “LG Bluetooth App” which will pair up with the device and you can use certain controls like on the remote – but a bit more limited. You can also play songs that are on your phone from the app. I didn’t see a lot of use from the app though. 6. 4 sound modes – adaptive sound control (ASC) which is the default, Standard, Bass Blast, and Cinema. I tend to use ASC the most. 7. Supports LPCM, Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround. Overall, a really SOLID system that I would most definitely recommend. LG – Welcome to the party!

A great set up with premium sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like a variety of audio options. I also really like wireless options for home entertainment. A few years ago, we installed a really nice 5.1 surround sound system in our living room, but there are wires everywhere. We were able to get a wireless receiver for our back speakers, but there are still speaker wires running to it. There just isn’t a lot of flexibility. This awesome sound bar setup from LG is quickly winning me over. It’s a nice cross between what I would want for my home office and a nice amplification system for a smaller home theater. Set up is very easy. Each speaker has a power cable. Once you have power connected, you connect the two sound bar speakers to each other wirelessly and then the subwoofer will automatically connect to the primary speaker. From here, you actually have the option to connect to the speakers wirelessly through Bluetooth. This is actually the first test I ran. I connected my iPad Pro to the set up through Bluetooth and played some music from Pandora. The sound quality is absolutely remarkable. It’s clear and crisp and honestly, it made me rethink my home office set up. In addition to connecting through Bluetooth, you can also connect to the setup through HDMI or Digital Optical cable. I do wish there was a little more control over the volume on the subwoofer, but there are a lot of ‘sound effects’ that make it a bit punchier. In general, the sub really adds a nice depth to the sound that a standard 2-speaker setup wouldn’t have. I actually really like this sound bar setup rather than some of its competitors because for the price point, you really get a lot of flexibility with how you want to set it up.

Very versatile and excellent sound
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What I absolutely like about these speakers is the flexibility. You may speakers and place them separately anywhere in the house to work independently. Within the same room, it is versatile that can be placed anywhere to a true surround sound experience. The speakers are true 4.1 surround sound with connections type or HDMI ARC, HDMI In, and optical input. The subwoofers sound great and it makes the floor shake. This will make an action movie feel more enjoyable. Adjustment to the sounds can be made manually, the low, highs and bass. The build quality is sturdy and not a cheap material. The casing has a slick black metal finish and with rubberized material on the buttons. What stands out of these speakers is its versatility; three options, 1) Portable, 2) Rear the second speaker, and 3) Sound bard combining the two speakers. The setup was simple and quick. Each component establishes a connection to the primary sound bar automatically. If it doesn't, then locate the pairing button. For the second speaker, it took me a while to find the pairing button (see image). The setup was in a medium size room and the sound was more than enough for a good surround sound.

Home theater in my bedroom!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super easy set up! In the box is two medium sized speaker towers with plastic stands, a subwoofer, a remote (with 2 AAA batteries), optical cable and 2 tie straps. No HDMI cord comes with this device. Plug everything in place and you are ready for great sound! Movie, sounds great! Music, sounds great! Bluetooth works great! There is a sound effect button which switches between the different types of sound settings. Standard, Cinema, ASC and Bass. I highly recommend changing the sound to the different types of uses. Music sounds great in the Standard setting. Action movies sound great in cinema. ASC can be used to adjust the sound coming from the speaker according to the room size/shape. The bass setting is great for music but if you live in an apartment/townhouse or have close neighbors you may get noise complaints. The bass is really superb for the size of this equipment. Make sure you turn the switch to sound bar on the secondary speaker (the one with the bluetooth button on it), so that all of the speakers will play, you will know that it is not switched on by the little red light on the secondary speaker. If it is red, the switch is not on; it will turn white when it is working properly. Would I buy this product again, MOST DEFINITELY YES!!!!!!!

REPLACING A BOSE SYSTEM
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Happens that I bought a new 4K UHD TV and now the rascals do not have the Audio Aux out. For many, many, many Years ( Ok since 2006) I did use a Bose CINEMATE 2.1 channels and all was great but it is always time for a change because those BOSE do not have HDMI, Optical or Bluetooth inputs. Then, from BOSE jumped to LG’s SJ7 Sound Bar Flex 4.1-channel speaker system that you can customize like a Soundbar, like separate speakers, and like separate towers. (all is included) In My situation, I do have a 65 Samsung 4k UHD TV on a little table using the New Samsung legs (Huge Legs) leaving little or no room for soundbar on the front of the TV. .... easy... divided the sound bar in two and select option "rear" and put it behind/under TV ( You can not even see them when they are off) Connected the Optical (also included) Put the batteries on the remote (also included) Power all up and put the Volume on 15 Power On the Wireless Subwoofer and Press the Pairing button on the rear of the wireless subwoofer. Turn On TV select Optical and that was just Great. Remote has an AutoPower button and system turns on and off using the TV power. After using BOSE for years I was ( I am ) really impress for the sound Quality of this LG System. Tested with UHD Video from Netflix, Some test for 4.1 channels on youtube. All sound loud and great and you can see the difference using Soundround and Cinemate. The system also differentiates between TV and Movies. Simple Great Sound and innovative design. Now.... I hope is going to last many , many years as the Bose did.

"Flex" as the name indicates
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LG - SJ7 Sound Bar Flex Wireless Speaker System is slick technology!! The system is nearly wireless, the only connection to your TV is from the main speaker using either HDMI or the supplied optical cable. Once the main speaker is configured, the system configures the rest itself. The supplied instructions are more confusing than the actual setup. The SUBWOOFER is wireless and the 2nd speaker is wireless. I love that the 2nd speaker gives you the ability to take the sound anywhere you go! It features a rechargeable battery and bluetooth. I wonder if you can add additional speakers, LG does not make that clear. There is a difference from the LG Soundbar vs the TV's internal speaker. Works great with my Samsung TV! The sub produces pleasant bass/sound, which is not overbearing. The bluetooth speaker alone sounds decent but not as good as my JBL Charge 3. Overall, I love this sound bar. I don't have a ton of experience with sound bars because I don't watch a lot of tv. However, I think the LG sets a high bar.

Versatile System with Very Good Sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very good system with versatility. I like that you can setup the speakers as left and right vertically on the included stands on either side of the TV for separation of sound. I haven't tried the rear sound setup as I like it the way it is, but it's nice that I can do that if I wanted to. The ability to customize the EQ via the remote is a big plus as you can adjust the treble and bass as desired, and when combined with cinema effect and adjust subwoofer bass level from the remote as well it's pretty good, nice bass and clean mid's and high's. It's setup in our relatively small living room so for me this system is very good, especially when comparing it to the TV's sound output which like most TV's is awful. I might add that I bought it as open box for $161.99 and feel that I practically stole this system, especially since it shipped for free. If I had to pay $400 or more I might consider other systems but for what I paid it's well worth it. If you can get this at a good price I'd say go for it!

Q: QuestionIs this system something that would work for a person that is hard of hearing....put one in front of TV and one on a table by the couch?
Asked by autumnauger.
- A:Answer Keep in mind the sounds coming out of each speaker can be different depending on the surround sound settings of the program and the speakers themselves. And you can't make it a front/rear setup because then most of the voices would mainly be heard by TV speaker. So bottom line, it would work, but it may not be ideal with "what" they hear vs what's heard from the other speaker. I recommend getting some RF headphones in addition to an external speaker. Most people can listen to the sound bar while a person that has a hard time hearing can use headphones and increase the volume without affecting others. My father-in-law currently has to use this setup so he doesn't blast everyone out of the room using the sound bar. A 3.5mm audio splitter is required for that kind of setup though.

Q: QuestionCan the LED display on speaker be turned off?
Asked by Krbpw.
- A:Answer It can't be turned completely off; however, it is brighter after a key touch... then 15 seconds later, it dims automatically until a key is pressed again. You can always put electrical tape over that area if needed.

Q: QuestionI have a 2013 60 inch plasma lg model tv .i bought the sj7 lg sound bar .but can’t seem to connect to tv .it plays music from my phone so I no it works .ive plugged HDMI cable in and nothing .do I need to use another cable ?
Asked by Horse.
- A:Answer Hi Horse. What audio connections do you have on your 2013 Plasma TV? The LG SJ7 Sound Bar Flex 4.1 Channel Speaker System with Wireless Subwoofer and Bluetooth Streaming - Black, Model # SJ7 has an HDMI 1,4 Out port and an Optical Digital Audio Out and an HDMI 1.4 In as connection ports. If your TV has an Optical Digital Audio Output on it, you can simply connect that port to the Optical Digital Audio Input on the soundbar using an optical (Toslink) cable if you have one. You might need to go into the audio settings in your TV to specify what path to output the audio through. Check the instruction in your owner's manual for your TV for instructions on that. It should be TV setting menu [ [Sound] [ [TV Sound output] [ [External speaker (Optical)] or something similar. You can use the HDMI 1.4 Out if your TV has an HDMI port that supports ARC functionality. ARC functionality allows you to send audio upstream or downstream through the same HDMI cable when it is supported on both your TV and on the Soundbar. Again, you'll have to get into the audio settings in your TV's menu settings to specify an audio output path. That should look something like TV setting menu [ [Sound] [ [TV Sound output] [ [External speaker (HDMI ARC)]. Details of the TV settings menu may vary depending on the model of your TV...^IFV
