I am reviewing Model: LDF8874ST. I almost passed on this model because of complaints that it doesn't dry well, the bottom rack falls out, the upper 3rd rack is wasteful, the dishes fall down and that it was noisy and doesn't clean. After reviewing many others, i took a chance. The 3rd rack is very useful. Instead of wasting space with the three holders i put the silverware on 3rd with spatulas etc. The rack has to be put on the holders the right way and it will not fall or move. If it feels like it is going to fall then it is not clipped in right. Pull the gray pieces off the top rack out and match it up with the bars. Make sure it is snapped/holding on. They cleaned very well and took up less space down below. GREAT! I understand about saying the dishes don't stand up. What i am seeing is that on the bottom rack, the tines are different sizes, some are closer together and narrower than the others to fit different sized plates. Look at the book and see the suggested way to load. The bigger tines are in the back of the bottom rack and hold the larger plates, the middle tines hold the salad plates and so on. You can fold them up or down by row, not individual tines. The great thing about this is that you can fold down just half a row if you want to. The middle rack takes some work. You can adjust rows from right to left for the size of the bowls or plates. Adjust until you see the plates do not fall and that is the right setting. The cups etc i just folded down a row of tines on the right side and fit it all in. You will see blue clips on the rack when you pull it out, adjust to your liking. None of the plates fell over and i have heavy plates. The bottom rack that falls out: Don't pull the rack all the way out as the track is short on this washer. If you go past the track it will fall out. Just pull it out from the middle and half way out. You should be able to unload like this. About cleaning: I didn't know what buttons to press. They have you thinking if you press auto it does the work by itself and you don't have to choice a dry, rinse setting. I chose heavy cleaning, then the dry setting and the sanitize setting. The dishes came out spotless and totally dry, also used a rinse aid first. Took about 2 1/2 hours. Be sure to choose each different setting. I set the washer light to stay on until i open the door at the end. It is extremely quiet and you only know it is running when it drains, which is quiet as well. And, you can see that the light is on top a little bit. Make sure it is level and not crooked and this machine is great! Glad i chose it. I hope it continues this way. I had a bad smell in my kitchen and now it is gone. I guess my old washer held this smell. Any questions just comment. Oh, the installer put it in crooked and the door hits the side of the washer when you close it, this is causing scratches to the door and inside the washer, they are due to come back and fix that part. So, make sure when they install it you don't feel any rubs on either side when you open the door. I used a rinse aid and the pods, it worked well. The plastic cup from mcds melted so you might not want to wash those in there. Also, the middle rack goes up and down with plenty of room to load up to 14 inches of plates on the bottom and the middle up to 12 inches and you won't hit the 3rd rack. Read the instructions and practice first. If unsure then call lg to have them explain. If i run into problems i will be back to update.

This machine is super quiet and does the job great. It has lots of bang for the buck and has steam too to get rid of stuck on food. Had Best Buy install it and they did a good job too. Nothing negative to say about my purchase or experience.

This dishwasher is amazing. I am so glad we purchased the LG Steamwasher it is a great addition to our kitchen revamp. Not only does it look great but it also does an amazing job at cleaning our dishes. The three racks allow for a huge range of dishes including large pots to be washes at the same time. It is very quiet. We chose to have it installed by Best Buy and the installation team was very professional and courteous. We could not be happier with our purchase.

16 months, two problems

After about 7 months of use, the detergent dispenser would not open during a cycle. The detergent would be caked inside after a wash. We would use pods or powder....it would be hit or miss if the dispenser would open (staying closed the majority of the time). LG did send someone out to repair it....all under warranty.
Now, we are getting an nE code. This is for a vario motor. The problem is that we are 16 months into our warranty which means the part is covered, but labor is not. After some research, it's a $16 dollar part, but LG won't send me the part. They require a tech to come out and inspect the machine which is close to $100 just for the visit. There are Youtube videos showing how to replace the motor....it's pretty simple, but the machine needs to pulled out and flipped over. It's annoying that LG won't send me the part that is covered under warranty.
Aside from those issues, I'm not crazy about the layout of the dish tines and how glassware fits in the upper rack. Other dishwashers I've used had better internal layouts.
I don't think I'd recommend this product.

Loving this LG Dishwasher!

Loving this LG Dishwasher. Its super quiet. Super efficient. I can watch TV in my livingroom and not even have to think about delaying a load of dishes because its soooo quiet. The capacity is ginormous. The ability to adjust the top rack height is slick, lets you have taller items on bottom rack. You can even adjust the strength of the wash on bottom or top rack, well, not top but middle due to their being a 3rd rack atop. 3rd rack is nice for utensils but its not as powerful as a wash as the middle or bottom rack. The silverware holder in the bottom rack is neat. It has a lid that can close on each section revealing a nice spacer for you to slip in silverware. Could not be happier with this purchase and this product.

This was installed by a professional into a new house. On the positive side is that is does a great job cleaning and it's so quiet; you cannot hear it running. The downsides, and there are several, the "heavy" setting for a full load with pots and pans is 2 hours and 46 minutes. The easy rack is so easy that they don't stay up; it takes just a brush of a hand or other dish to collapse them. The roll-out at the bottom never aligns going back in and has to be struggled with every day. Also, the bottom roll-out must be loaded, from the back, taking care to very specifically balance the weight of the dishes or it's not going to go back in without a struggle and a lot of swearing (the swearing is optional, but I have found that it helps). I would not recommend this unless you enjoy cursing and wrestling with your appliances on a near daily basis. The pros definitely do not outweigh the cons on this appliance.

Quiet frustration

Despite being incredibly quiet, I am incredibly disappointed in this unit. The racks fall when trying to load plates...there is no room to accurately load more than one row of glasses, bowls do not fit without bumping the top rack, which immediately displaces it. The silverware container has separated and will not stay reconnected. I hate this dishwasher.

Never whistle at an appliance, it may whistle back

We purchased this dishwasher in January of this year. For the first 3-4 months, this was an incredible dishwasher-- spacious, quiet, and cleaned everything. Then the whistling started. An annoying, high-pitched whistling sound that starts within minutes of the unit starting. It can be heard over the TV and even from our third floor.
At first, LG said it was normal and sent a tech out to tell us it was normal. Then the sound got louder and I contacted LG again. They told me to run a cup of vinegar and a dishwasher cleaning packet through it. Still whistles.
Then came the suggestion that our water pressure was too high and that the intake hose was clogged. Check and not it.
On the next round with LG we finally got the repair guy to admit that the high pitched sound was not normal. He said the only real moving part was the motor and he'd order a replacement. We had high hopes that once that was replaced, our unit would be actually quiet.
We were wrong. Still whistling. So, LG, if you read reviews, please get your dishwasher to stop whistling at us. Best Buy won't take it back and you haven't been able to fix the problem.

Worst Dishwasher of my Life

Wish I could return this dishwasher. I thought at first maybe I just needed to get used to it, but it's been over a year and I still hate it.
The good: it's quiet
The bad: (Long list)
- No heat to dry - must air dry (must leave door open)
- Bottom Rack falls off the track all the time
- Tines to hold plates always fall down
- Setup of top rack is horrible too much angle so glasses don't fit and fall over and break
- Third rack too small to hold anything
- Terrible job washing dishes - have to scrub everything prior

Best Dishwasher I have ever had.

We do not even have to rinse the dishes anymore. I run the dishwasher on the heavy setting, with rinse and sanitize option. It takes 4 hours... but... you could wash a lasagna in this dishwasher. The top third rack is great for washing cooking utensils. One annoying thing is the sprayer on the second row pops off a lot, but it snaps back on so I am not too broken up about it. It is easy to keep the drain clean and I can wash a whole weeks worth of dishes in it. It is super!

I am very upset at how bad of performance this dishwasher is. Especially given the price. The tub is wet after washing. It smells bad from this wetness. When it is running it has a burning chemical smell. The dishes are still dirty. The soap is still on the door after washing. Don't they test these dishwashers. Look online and you will see over 100 reviews about all the same issues for this model. I thought this can't be right until I went online and saw so many people with exactly the same issues. I am returning it. The only thing nice was the chimes it plays when done.

An Expensive Disappointment

After receiving my second dishwasher, because the door on the first one didn't shut properly, this item is a huge disappointment. It doesn't properly clean any of my dishes ( leaving residue ). I called LG's customer service dept and tried multiple things to correct the issue (change detergent, clean filters, add rinse booster, increase water temp). They have determined that the water is my house is too hard. I live in a city with hard water and not every home has a water softener. They suggest I install a water softener, which isn't cheap, so that my expensive dishwasher works the way it is suppose to. I had a very cheap dishwasher before this and it worked 100 times better. This also has adjustable racks, which isn't all that convenient considering some of the dishes won't stand correctly. This product is not worth your time or money.

the folding wire rack elements fold too easily and all the dishes collapse, and the bottom shelf falls off its tracks far too often. Should have kept the Kenmore.

This product and its ancestors have multiple faults. I personally repaired this unit myself twice with parts. Repairman fixed twice. I am now faced with a decision and its an easy one. I'm dumping this lemon for another brand. Do not buy LG dishwashers!
