    Connectivity issues

Pairing this headset to my Android devices wasn't without issues. This particular unit gave me the most trouble of all my Bluetooth devices. I can't rightly quantify a percentage but most of my attempts to pair this with 2 different Android phones and 1 Android tablet would receive a "unable to communicate with device" message. The only way I was able to pair this device was when I had my phones and tablet "forget" other Bluetooth devices that I may have paired in the past. Even then it wouldn't pair every time. Having stated that, once connection was established the device is very comfortable to wear. At busier times I would forget that it was around my neck at all. The bread and butter of this device is the Google Assistant. My work requires me to drive a company van and as well as use my phone to communicate with coworkers. This device helps me do both comfortably and safely at the same time. I would recommend using only one earbud while driving. Two will make it too quiet for safe driving. One bud in while driving still offers more than enough audio clarity for calls. Microphone picks up my voice well, even in a noisy vehicle cabin. Didn't have any issue activating Google Assistant hands free with this head set. But if you must there is a dedicated button to activate it manually. Either method works fine. I was able to get navigation and maps up, make calls, and find the nearest store, all without ever taking my eyes off the road. The thinness of the retractable wire does make me wonder about the durability of the headset. I wouldn't want to fall asleep with this on knowing that a sharp tug might compromise the wire. While I'm sure a conscious effort to handle with care can help, it's just something to make note of. I found that this headset's strength is for when you need that hands free experience in a work type atmosphere. I wouldn't use this a primary device for music, the sound profile is much more for voice clarity and not much else. With such a specific use and with the unreliability I encountered with pairing to multiple devices, I was left a tad disappointed. I was loving the hands free part but frustrated by the pairing issues and wishing music sounded better.

    Buttons Too Few

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Pros: (A) light weight, (B) clear sound, (C) Google Assistant app can provide dialing, information, translations and other services. (Assistant app must be setup and running on your device. But it is not Siri not Alexa.) Cons: (A) "Google" button. The headset can be used to make phone calls using the Google Assistant app when running on your phone. The button never gave me a Siri option. (B) Multi function buttons depend on how long you push, making the user really pay attention to the device. Distracting! Example 1 - "Vol/Next" If you want to increase volume, push the button. Push too long and you get the next track. Yuck! (The same button can mute phone calls.) Example 2 - The "Multi-Function-Button" either answers the call, rejects the call, switches to another call or shuts off the headphone depending on how long you push (brief, 2 seconds, one sec., or 4 secs.) The same button turns on/off the most recent audio app/music. (C) Battery life. Listening continuously to an audio book, I only got 7 hours. (D) Best Buy does not offer their product warranty for this device. They know that the expected product life is less that 18 months. (Matching my own experience with other LG headsets.) Conclusion -- Cons kill the phone for me, and I kept fighting with the Google Assistant. Perhaps it doesn't like the iPhone. It is going back.

    COMFORTABLE EARBUDS

The LG Tone Flex XL7 Wireless Stereo Neckband is lightweight, flexible and very comfortable. The sleek futuristic design looks great around my neck. I 've had previous issues with earbuds that become uncomfortable to my ears after extended use. The earbuds that come with the HBS Tone Flex are very comfortable in my small ears, and they don't fall off. And if they do, the retractable earbuds make it impossible to lose them. The pairing of my iPhone was quick and easy. The sound quality is OK. I am using an iPhone with this LG Tone Flex neckband. I am having a difficult time trying to figure out how to get the right highs and lows. I can't find an EQ APP that is compatible with the LG Flex Tone Neckband so I can make the right sound adjustments. The battery is solid at about 8 hrs for a single charge. The battery recharge time was excellent. I went from a low battery charge to a full battery charge in just a little over 2 hours. I like the Google Assistant feature that comes with the LG Flex Neckband. The dedicated button makes it easy to use. There are vibrating motors that back up the alert chime.

I used to be a huge fan of these when the first HBS 700 series came out about 10 years ago. The latest model of the Tone series; the HBS-XL7 is the lightest, slimmest, and most flexible. The first thing that you'll notice is how soft and flexible the rubber housing is. The flexibility will add to its durability, and will probably handle being thrown into bags and briefcases when you're on the go. What's included in the box: USB-C charging cable, extra silicone plugs, and inserts. The dedicated Google assistant button was a nice touch. In regards to the call quality and clarity, it's clear and crisp. I called a friend using the Tones, and asked how the quality was, and the verdict was that it sounded clear, no distortion, and it picked up my voice, and not the ambient sound around me. I also tried these for music, and the bass was surprisingly good. The earbuds can be pulled out of the housing, and then can be retracted by pulling them straight out. In previous models, there would be a button that when pressed, the earbuds would retract at a fairly fast speed. The speeds at which the earbuds retract on the XL7 are slower, and they can sometimes stop retracting half way or 3/4 of the way. It's kind of hit or miss with the retracting. This is the only minor flaw that I found with the XL7. All in all, a great "around the neck" bluetooth headset.

I really enjoy these earphones. The sound is excellent and gets pretty loud. The band that goes around your neck gives it extra support so they don’t fall off. The earbuds retract which is pretty cool giving you more mobility. The google assistant is definitely a plus. I had a little trouble connecting to my phone but I think that was my wifi connection other than that it was able to pick up the information like weather and traffic news around my area. Super easy to use and talk to. I was able to send messages taking to the google assistant and checking up on several things. The earbuds definitely stay on place when exercising. I had no trouble at all.

I have owned Tones for longer than I remember. I always wanted them to be more comfortable for laying back and relaxing. These do just that. The flexible neckband prevents them from digging into the back if the neck when relaxing. The retractable earbud USUALLY prevent tangles. The Good: 1. Extremely comfortable 2. Earbuds retract reliably 3. Delivers deep rich sound on some track. The Bad: 1. Most music lacking in bass tone sound peculiarly flat. Listening to artist like Phillip Phillips and Jason Aldean was less than satisfying while artist like Adele and Sam Smith sounded full and rich. 2. The earbud wire is REALLY THIN. I had one knot up in the process of retracting. 3. Sound quality on iPhone is markedly better than android 4. Google assistant was surely hit or miss. Overall: I would probably go with one of my higher end sets for just chilling listening to music, however, due to the security, comfort and the quality of the music I generally like when active, these would be my go to active headphones.

    Almost perfect headset

My first thought after removing the headset from the container was how durable the headset felt. They are very flexible, yet they hold their shape. I folded these over onto itself and they sprung right back into place when I release them. I have lost quite a few pairs of headphones, usually while traveling, because the headband broke while in my backpack. I doubt these will suffer the same fate. The headset was very comfortable. Once it was on my neck, it felt no different than a badge lanyard or a necklace. It didn’t take any time at all for me to forget they were on. Pairing this headset with my iPhone 11 was extremely easy. I turned on the headset, opened settings, went to Bluetooth, and the selected pair button when the popup window came up. It was as easy as just about any other BT device I use. The distance on these are great. I set the phone down and went into the garage, more than 30 feet, and the sound didn’t even break up. The charging time is excellent. Just a few minutes will get you a few hours. I don’t know how long it will take to go from empty to fully charged, because after I topped it off, it never depleted during my review. Now for the dislikes. I downloaded and installed the LG Tone and Talk app. This is the app for these headsets. It downloaded and installed on my iPhone perfectly. When I went to pair it, the app said it wasn’t compatible with my device. The user manual, which seemed more like a quick start guide, mentions the app and Android but says nothing about IOS. I am very disappointed that LG wouldn’t include Apple devices in their apps. I use Apple, Android, Microsoft, and Linux. Online support: I looked up the headset on LG’s website and there is nothing available for this headset, not even the ”user guide”. Even under support, entering in the model number returned links for televisions. I am surprised that there was no support about the headset that they are touting as a Hi-Fi headset designed by Meridian (who I am very familiar with and like). I was hoping to find anything to help me with the severe lack of lower mids and bass, which leads me to the next topic. I am hoping that I got a bad headset, because the audio quality during music playback was non-existent below the midrange level. I find it hard to believe that Meridian designed these headsets and put their name on it. The highs were crisp and clear, and the midrange was full and tight. And then there was this complete drop off as if there was a low-end filter in place. I was hoping that the app would provide tone adjustment or equalization, but I could not find an app that would work with this model. As much as I was looking forward to reviewing these, I couldn’t be more disappointed with the music side of it. That being said, I thought the audio quality was exceptional on the phone-side. The crisp highs and tight mids made for very clear telephone audio. Even at over 30 feet, the sound quality during a phone call was very good. My overall rating for the headset is 4.0. out of 5. While I was disappointed in the musical audio quality of this headset, these are not audiophile headphones. I believe the main purpose of them is to provide Bluetooth hands-free operation of a cell phone, and this headset does that very well. The easy phone operation along with the durability and comfort make this headset an excellent choice if music is not a major player in your decision process.

This is the real deal, guys. It has made me react like a teenager who just wants to write superlative acronyms in this review. OMG. I have had headphones. Lots of them. Awesome. Ones. This one is up there with the best. It rivals the best that Bose has to offer. The bass, mid-tones, treble, and the happiness boxes are all ticked. Exterior noise is cancelled. I can avoid all the house chores and blame that on this. My wife will understand (hopefully). This is the bees knees. Its first impression is like the memory of your first kiss. Your wedding night. The feeling of you holding your baby for the first time. This is that good. Connection is a breeze. It looks sleek and great. Very stylish. There is Google Assistant that can be very helpful. If you are on the fence, just pick this side and jump in. This is a middle-aged Prof who has seen it all. All the tech and then some. And I am telling you-- you cannot go wrong with this. LG-- good job!

These headphones do everything well. They were very easy to pair with my iPhone. The sound is very good and with the dual microphones they work well in handling phone calls. The retractable earbuds are a nice feature, I find that I do have to guide them in for the last inch or two. They do a far better job in securing the earbuds than my previous magnetic mount headset did. I have tried classical music, classic rock and audio books, they all sound clear with good frequency response.

To be fair, these got a lot of work-from-home use, but ... I expected better than just making past a year. Generally, the sound is good, pairing is find (unpairing is easiest by power-cycling). I should have returned them when the wire sheath split, but now the right bud is completely dead (not even the damaged one). Tl;dr: These are too expensive to be so fragile - there is other wear that just is unacceptable at $120-140.
