Nowadays companies are getting rid of internal drives and the need for external drives increased. My laptop of course was not the exception, I purchased this drive after looking for different reviews online and also the price. It has worked great and does not make much noise. Recommended!

Purchased this external DVD/CD Rom for my nephew's MacBook Pro in case he had a need to play movies or load any apps which might be on CD. It's sleek in appearance, doesn't take up a lot of room in his backpack, he's had no issues with it, and it does what we need it to do.

Considering the price, this is basic external CD/DVD drive that works. For some who use external drive extensively, might want to consider higher end product that will endure wear & tear of the drive. Others who use infrequently (once in a while), this LG might fit the bill.

Todays thinner laptops generally do not allow for an optical drive and therefore it this is desired, a peripheral read/write drive can be connected via the usb port. This drive meets the need for a very reasonable price. It includes the usb cord but not a separate carrying case.

I love everything about it, except the external body is cheap. I think it is a piece of junk plastic when I hold it. However, it performs very fast and I am happy with my image uploads. I am a photographer and I use this along with my MacBook to deliver photos to clients.

I purchased this for my MacBook Pro because it doesn't come with a CD-drive, and I was worried that they wouldn't be compatible. My MacBook recognizes the drive instantly, though, and I haven't had any problems with it. It also beats the $79 price Apple tries charging you for their hardware!

Not blazing fast but more then good enough for burning graphic files as well as any documents or data files. Easy to setup on Mac and PC and slim design. Haven't tried burning a movie or something really large yet but for what I use it for; documents and data it works great!

Bought a new Acer laptop which doesn't have a USB DVD drive so I needed a drive that I knew would work well. I chose LG as I have other LC products and have never had a problem with any of them. All the positive reviews on Best Buy web site made my decision an easy one.

I like it know that I know how to use it. When I bought it nothing was explained to me what I needed to do to watch movies. I was used to just plug and play. The lady at the Geek Squad dest helped me out fantastically with downloading the correct software.

needed an external writer for my new laptop and found this for 25 bucks - same specks ss the 80 buck one that was recommended by the manufacture - that one was usb2 and this one is usb3 so for a 1/3 of the price I got an usb3 compliant writer that is quiet and speedy enough for my needs

Just plug and play. You may need to download something extra, depending on which version of Windows you're using. It's extremely portable and powered by the USB cable. If your laptop is plugged in, that's fine. Just remember where it draws power from if you're on battery.

I bought this to use with a 2-in-one computer that does not have a DVD/ CD drive. I needed it to re-install some software that is on a CD. The drive installed automatically and worked as expected. This kept me from having to buy new software that was a download version.

My new iMac does not have an internal disc drive which I need for my work. The LG External Double-Layer DVD RW/CD DVD Writer is compatible for both Mac and Windows and was an especially good buy when on sale. The LG Slim Portable can also be connected to a TV for playback.

I'm not a fan of LG, but for the price, this worked for what I needed it to do, but I'm being nice. It's not easy to get the disc into the device in the 1st place, a Geek Squad member was even looking at the device strangely without me saying a thing trying to fit the disc in. It's also not as silent as you'd think, not to mention that if you're not very careful, the disc sounds like it's being scraped to death inside the device. Just baby your disc when placing it inside..... mind you I've been using various devices and discs for quite a long time. Wish Sony or another company had one available for purchase.... maybe I should gone for the pricer Samsung, however this one had more comments....

Super easy to use, but kind of an annoying set up. My step grandfather really struggled with it and I had to help him out in the end. It wasn't difficult for me, but if you are daunted by installs and lots of questions, it may not be the one for you.

This was recently purchased but thus far it has worked fine. It was very reasonably priced so I can't fault it for being all plastic and wonder if it will last long as it doesn't look to well made. Still too early to say anything else about this product.

I was looking for a devise that would allow me to play dvd's on my computor. This devise is exactly what I needed. The Geek squad recommended this. You should be aware that it does not play Blu rays but does play dvd's Excellent and user friendly I recomend this product

Purchased to use this with a windows notebook, but pleased that it will also work with a mac. Burns reasonably fast, DVD playback is quiet -- the drive adjusts the speed to keep the motor noise minimized.

I love this product because it is slim enough to fit in computer bag while I am traveling. It works great for burning client requested information and literature onto a disc and leaving it with the customer.

Had to purchase product because of my new work computer lacking a cd drive; therefore, purchase this since it was on the low end. Easy to set-up, no frills, feels cheap, would have to be careful packing it since it super slim and weak. But other than that. Works
