it seems few laptops come with built-in DVD players anymore. So this was recommended by the employee at Best Buy and at a discount when purchasing a new laptop. I have used it several times and it works fine. Price is very affordable.

I was a bit frustrated that the newer laptops don't have CD ROM drives any longer. I'm over that, now that I have this LG Ultra Slim. I just connect it to the USB Port and it's good to go! The price was good, it's lightweight and easy to use. Thanks LG

I bought this to read software on discs as the laptop doesn't have an internal drive. Setup was easy. The downloaded driver interrupts my boot up though, even when the drive isn't plugged in. Otherwise it's a good piece of hardware.

Well, It works. Doesn't make me breakfast though... I plugged it in, it read and wrote disks. I'd ding it one star off because it feels kinda cheap, but so was the price. Will not survive nuclear explosions, but will work fine if taken care of.

Worked as soon as I connected the USB cable. The unit is very small and light. I actually wish it was heavier when I'm using it on my desk. I haven't tried it with my laptop away from my desk yet. It appears to be a very good value so far.

Since we have accumulated CD's of old photos, I needed a way to be able to view them. Having the external drive is the easiest way to be able to continue viewing those memories and make new ones as well. A good choice recommended by Best Buy staff.

I got this DVD player which works on both Mac and PC for a very good price. I refuse to pay Apple prices. I've used the device and it works just fine.

A must have for any good laptop that does not have a Drive build in. Your better Laptops don't have a Drive built in anymore...most are external. The LG is great for watching your favorite movie or CD music...and you can burn or download to your laptop.

I bought this because my new laptop has no optical drive. This drive is very compact and quiet. I have burned CD's and DVD's with no problems. My laptop would not load the included software, but it does not require it to use the drive.

I have searching the web for an external DVD writer to use with a new laptop with did not have one from factory.. I decided to buy this one and I think it was a right decision. It is working nicely and does not require much space.

First off, I have to say that when I pulled this DVDRW drive out of the box, my first impression was that of a quality product. The fit and finish was flawless. After plugging it in and installing software suite, I found my only real issue. The software suite did not include a program for watching DVDs. Only thing that was offered was a trial period for Power DVD. Unfortunately I am not prepared to buy the drive then turn around and pay another $60 for a DVD program. I did a little research and found Vlc program for playing DVDs for free and works great. Only reason I did not give 5 stars was lack of complete DVD software included.

I was bitter about having to get an external optical drive, until I found this unit. The drive is light, compact and functions incredibly well. It also managed to function very well in a plug and play capacity on more than one computer.

Works but a little flimsy. Sometimes hard to seat or remove CD from tray. Occasionally the player vibrates excessively and makes a loud noise. At first thought the unit was defective but still seemed to work OK. Inexpensive but works.

My friend send me some home made discs to listen to and i didn't have any way to listen to them on my laptop. I went and bought this cd burner at Bestbuy and it was so easy to hookup and took 5 minutes to listen to my new cds. Love it

DVD player is light and easy to use, plays DVDs just like you would expect. Only downside is that some computers don't have a media player anymore and therefore you have to download a third parties playing software.

I bought this item on sale and based on a recommendation from an employee and I was very surprised with the quickness of the installation. I also enjoy that its slim design makes it able to fit in my case so I can store it and use it when I need it.

I would prefer a DVD device in the computer itself, but am probably just old fashioned. At least with an external drive I can still use discs. Easy to install and use with my Dell laptop. But seems delicate so I am very careful moving it around.

Love this little guy. Super lightweight and incredibly fast. Can get a little noisy. But I think that's a safe assumption for the size anyway.
