Having read the entire forum thread about this player on AVS Forums I was aware of the possibility of the drive making a loud spinning sound during certain movies, mostly when playing Sony 4K UltraHD movies. Sure enough, it happened on mine. Had no issues when playing 4K Ultra HD movies from other companies (Paramount, 20th Century Fox) - those played great and looked amazing. But when I played a disc from Sony during certain parts of the movie, for 10-15 minutes the drive would start making a really loud sound (kinda like an old computer when the hard drive started spinning really fast). This sound is loud enough that if it's a dialogue scene you will hear the spinning all the way across the room - it's very annoying. Anyway, you can check out AVS Forums for more info, but it seems for some reason to mainly happen with Sony 4K UltraHD discs and it happens in random places for 10-15 minutes but not for the entire movie. Still, if I pay $300 for a player, I am not willing to put up with a loud whirring/spinning sound at random times during any movie... It's ridiculous. And despite the many people who have experienced the issue, LG doesn't seem to have acknowledged it or have any statements about fixing it in a software update (if that is even possible). It's a bummer because otherwise, I was really happy with this player - the picture quality is excellent - no issues with HDR to my LG Oled TV. If you wonder why some people here haven't mentioned this issue, it is likely because they haven't yet played a disc by Sony and/or perhaps they got lucky with a unit that doesn't have the issue. But if you search the net, you'll see this is a widely known issue with this player. I was hoping I might get lucky, but apparently not. I will be returning this to BestBuy

This is probably the best bang for your buck player. It is quiet, despite what other people have said. And if it gets the Dolby Vision update that's been promised nothing else beats it right now. Only downside is the remote, nothing fancy...and it didn't come with a battery (single AAA)

Nice picture quality and easy set up. Only Negative is there is no time counter on the unit so it's hard to judge how much longer a movie is unless you pause it. Overall a nice player.

I have used this Blu-Ray player for about 18 months. The picture quality is amazing! Paired with a Vizio 60" display, I take full advantage of Blu-ray discs that display in Dobly Vision and HDR. For the price, this is a must buy for any one who loves movies.

I’ve had the product for two weeks now and it functions perfectly. It does not make any noise and it delivers an exceptional picture. It does not have the fanciest user interface but if you have a smart tv or steaming box that really isn’t a big deal. It serves its purpose.

this LG 4K recorder offers a little more color to my 4K TV, not as much as I would want. Could be better, a little darkness on the TV picture. For the price its well worth it.

They tell me that it upgrades blue ray dvd’s Not sure but picture is great. Only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 is that I am having trouble finding 4K discs. Come on Netflix!!!

Purchased as a dec production date. Yes this does dolby vision and is quiet when playing anything. Also does 3D, and regular HDR as well. Best value for your money if looking for a UHD blu-ray player.

I bought the LG Ultra 4K Blu Ray player with the LG OLED TV. I played Planet Earth II and the player started to make an unbearable buzzing sound. Tried another U 4K blu ray disk-- same problem. No problem with DVD or Blu Ray disks. Read other reviews with users experiencing the same problem with Ultra 4K disks on earlier models. Returned the player the following week. Replaced it with another LG Ultra 4K player. The replacement has worked well. On occasion you may hear a slight hum on the Planet Earth II disk.

Some online reviews complained of excessive motor noise. I did not have this problem and it seems to work as just as expected. Produces excellent sound and picture

Bought this to play 4K Blu-Rays in Dolby Vision and they look excellent. Only downside is Netflix and YouTube are the only streaming options available on it.

I purchased this bluray player and am satisfied with picture quality. I am waiting for the Dolby Vision update which should happen by the end of summer. Great value.

Great picture including Dolby vision comparability. Menu and options need work, hopefully an update can fix that issue. But does what I need for a good price

Best Buy had the LG discounted with three movies, it was too good to pass up. The movies were great. The LG970 is a great player with a ton of features: ethernet, wi-fi, youtube & netflix apps. A nice addition to any home entertainment system.

This is a great 4K Blu-ray player for the price. I also own the Samsung UBD-K8500 player as well and one that I must say is that the LG player's remote blows the Samsung one away. It's a standard remote compared to the 6 button Samsung remote.

This is one of only two high end players that I have and I can say the player is only a bit better than the other players. It sounds a little quieter and may boot up faster. I would only buy this unit if on sale at a very steep discount.

Has worked flawlessly for me since purchased a month ago. Make sure manufacturer date is after Dec. 2017 and you should be all set. Then update firmware to get Dolby Vision access.

Good Player for Dolby Vision but lacks apps and options for adjustment.

I upgraded because my own player was an antique and it would not hook up to my new flatscreen TV... hooking up was very simple and only took minutes

A simple clean 4K player that handles Blu-rays and DVDs with ease. If it holds up better than my Sony or Pioneer I would definitely give it 5 stars
