Didn't want to watch this... didn't want to like it. However, after thinking about it, this movie contains all the classis horror elements of a great movie, but nothing is overdone and nothing is silly or cheesy. It’s been awhile since a film creeped me out! When I bought it, thought it would be a basic decent horror film! Well, it scared my daughter and I so much, after the movie, we were scared to turn OFF the lights! I’m telling you watch this in total darkness and good sound! Jump scares as well! Creeeeeeeeepy! Chilling! We loved it!

5 stars for the movie, 1 for its condition = 3 stars. This is why I don't like to buy videos online, it's a crapshoot whether they'll be in any fit condition when they arrive. This one had deep indentations on the front and back of the case, one of which punctured the front cover. The film on the case is all wrinkled, I swapped out the case, but that doesn't fix the puncture through the front of the cover and the other dents in the back. It seriously looks like someone beat the crap out of this video. The disc is fine, which is why I'm not returning it. I wish they would have still had this this in-store, at least I could have picked one that wasn't all beat up.

I remember going to the movies to see this. Started off creepy right from the beginning with a nice twist at the end. Picture quality is top notch as well as sound and I actually like the steelbook it came in. Good movie.

This is a good example of when a good idea gets to see its full potential. I remember seeing "Lights Out" a few years back when it originally debuted: As a short, 5 minute horror film on YouTube. Without any dialogue and minimal explanation, it managed to be original and truly terrifying. The full movie expands on the original's concept and adds a backstory explaining why this entity haunts this family. Surprisingly, the movie also does well as sort of a social commentary on mental illness. What I also like is that the characters in this movie are smart. They're not your typical stupid teens or brain dead characters practically waltzing into death at every turn. They quickly learn and adapt to the situation. I often found myself saying, "Why don't they just..." and before I could finish my sentence the characters in the movie had the same idea. I really appreciated that compared to the genre stereotypes we've come to expect. Overall, a great movie with good acting, some unexpected jump scares, and outright creepiness. With movies like this and "Don't Breathe", I'd say the horror genre is very much alive.

While "Lights Out" is not in the same league as 2016's "The VVitch" or "The Conjuring 2", its simple premise is brought to life by smart, believable characters and a terrific performance by Teresa Palmer. The stylish, effective filmmaking from first time writer-director David F. Sandberg (adapting his own 2013 short film), earns all of its jump scares (a rarity in horror films today). The film clocks in well under an hour and a half (81 minutes including credits) but the pacing is near-perfect and the storyline is as fleshed out as it needs to be. If you were disappointed (and you should have been) by 2003's "Darkness Falls", this film is superior in every way. The video playback on the Blu-ray runs at a high bit-rate, translating to exceptional detail - especially during the film's many dark sequences where shadows and occasional burst of color and light are important to the film's atmosphere and scares. The disc also boasts one of the best surround sound experiences of the year for your home theater, enveloping listeners with discrete sound effects across all channels throughout the presentation. Disappointingly, there are few extras on the release, but it does thankfully include the film's original ending. Recommended for horror fans and for those looking for a fun, scary ride that rarely lets up.

I’ve always wanted to buy this movie because I love paranormal movies, and Best Buy had the best price!! If you have a love of the Super or Paranormal genre, you’ll love this movie!!!

Went in with lower expectations but was pleasantly surprised by the premise and how scary it actually was! Highly recommend watching Lights Out with the lights on.

The Blu-Ray is fine. Nothing to complain about. The film is spooky, but seems like it misses out on a lot of opportunities given the "horror" concept it relies on (the light mechanic, if you've seen it). A solid addition to a horror collection, but not likely to dethrone the Exorcist or the Shining or any of the major classics. Fun, though.
