Replaced an older router that was having problems with the increasing number of devices connecting to it. Now, no problems. Set-up was easy, too.

We had intended to buy a wi-if booster until the salesperson told us that with all the equipment we had using our network, we were better off getting a second router and splitting the items using each network. This router was suggested based on the number of items using our wi-if network and the size of the house. We had a Geek Squad member install the router and create another network and he showed us how to share the networks. Now, the response time of all our tablets, phones, TV's, home products, etc. has greatly increased. Thank you Best Buy and Geek Squad.

Great home gaming router with good range and feature set. Not the best firewall available but ii is a router built for speed not security.

      Hi, montikodi2,

We're glad to hear that your EA8500 router is giving you a good Wi-Fi coverage. We're just curious about the Antennas which are acting wobbly which shouldn't be happening if they are properly attached. Please send us your contact details and the link to this post at LinksysCares@linksys.com and we'll have one of our Escalation Engineers check if this could be a possible hardware issue.

I received this product for free as part of Belkin's Friends + Family Program Set up was easy, though I would have liked better documentation. CDs are all but useless these days. This thing is a beast and had to rearrange some items for it to fit. I did not like that the guest network was enabled by default but it was easy to turn off. I enjoyed the GUI and that it was fairly easy to decipher what I wanted to do. I loved how easy it was to assign QoS for wireless clients - though I wish I could prioritize more than three. I performed two heat maps for 2.4 & 5 ghz bands prior to installing this Linksys router. The Linksys router improved coverage, dBm and most importantly speed in every room in my house on both bands. I hate the smart wifi login is necessary and its an uneeded vulnerability. The Android application is sorely lacking in functionality. My first week with this product was fantastic overall. I could not understand the reviews I was seeing saying that different bands were dropping and connectivity issues with wireless clients. The start of my second week with the EA8500 router was the antithesis of my first week. It has dropped clients beginning on the 2.4 band and continuing with the 5 ghz band. This is across a multitude of form factors and devices - 20+ wireless clients total. While the performance when connected (on the 5 ghz band) is phenomenal and the range is better. The reliability is far less than what I had with my outdated AC1200 router (Netgear R6200) and I switched back over to that. Still some kinks to work out, perhaps through fireware updates

I received this product for free as part of Belkin's Friends + Family Program. However, my review is not impacted by the source of the product. By necessity, my review will not evaluate the “value” of the device. This router offers easy setup and use, stable performance, broad coverage, and high speeds. • Setup and installation: I found the administrative tools easy and user-friendly. I set this router up with the same network name and password as I was using before. Once the settings were configured, all of my devices connected to the network without any problems (as expected). • Performance: I have not noticed any issues with performance. The router has not had any problems requiring a reboot or reset. • Coverage: This router provides very broad coverage area. I compared this router to another AC1750 router. I found the Linksys EA8500 Max-Stream AC2600 to have somewhat greater coverage area. The far reaches of my house still had strong coverage, seemingly undiminished by interior walls. While the Linksys router was a better performer, the difference was not extreme. • Speed: The internet speed met my expectations. At this level of performance, the bottleneck is the ISP and not the router. I found the user interface of the administrative settings to be an improvement from what is typical on other routers. Changing setting was a little more intuitive. This may be a benefit if you are less comfortable with changing settings. Parental controls let you manage device time, even remotely; this may be useful for households with children. You can also set network priorities for designated devices, helping ensure the best streaming experience possible. There is also an app that allows you to control and adjust some settings; I found this of little use, but it may be a feature others appreciate more. I had no problems with this router and it met my expectations. The additional features available with this router offered little benefit to me, but may be great for others. If you are updating a router, this should be on the list to consider, but I would not upgrade just for this device.
