    TERRIBLE TECH SUPPORT

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This router worked for a while. The 5,0 bands work fairly well the 2.4 band has never been great but worked. I have 300mbs from my cable provider. On the 5.0 banks you can expect 300+mbs. You should get 100+mbs on the 2.4 bands but in most cases, we got 40- to 50mbs. A few days ago all bands started slowing down and then stopped allowing any connections, The 5.0 bands started working again after several resets. The 2.4 still doesn't allow anything to connect. I have spent several days on the phone with Linksys tech support. The first one I spoke with had me run speed tests on the wired connection and on the 5.0 band. He remotely connected to my computer and fooled around with various settings on the router and ran more speed tests. Finally the call was disconnected but no one called me back. It was late so I waited until the next day and called back. The same sort of things went. He kept telling me that he would have to call me back. In an hour or so he would this went on all afternoon. Finally he didn't call me back. The next day I called again and the same questions had to be answered and the same tests had to be performed. Finally this one said the problem had to be escalated to the next tier of support. I was given a case number and told someone would call be back in half an hour. No one ever did. I called back the next day and asked for a supervisor. The supervisor told me the she would make sure someone called me back later. No call yet.

USB doesn't work with newer Mac OSs

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The Wifi and ethernet elements of this unit seem to work fine, but I bought it partially because of the USB ports, which I assumed I could use to connect several devices (including a printer) to my network. Unfortunately, LinkSys requires downloading their USB Control Center to connect a printer, and the Control Center app uses a driver called SXUPTP, which is incompatible with Mac OSs newer than 10.10 (the current Mac OS is High Sierra, 10.13.4) and it thus doesn't download. You are therefore out of luck trying to connect via the USB ports. I have worked this with LinkSys support, and that's their answer -- it doesn't work. They have known this for a couple of years now, but haven't fixed it yet. VERY disappointing!!!

    Horrible! I'm done with Linksys

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I paid a small fortune for this poor performer. It drops signals frequently. My PC is within 5 feet direct sight of the router and it frequently loses signal. I have better luck using the hotspot on my phone. Range is average. It works in about 3/4 of my 2-story 2600 house. The parental control software by Linksys does not work. Although it registers the correct mac address of a device, when you go to control it, it may "forget" which device is which, and you may find it blocks a different one the next time. The time control blocking is hit or miss - works about 50% of the time. If you block a site and delete it, there's a good chance that you can't see it but it may block the site invisibly forever. Or worse, once there is nothing blocked visibly, if you want to use it just to shut off the internet to a device at a certain time, once the times are input, it will randomly pick another site (e.g. Google) that you've never blocked and start blocking that onsite during the usable hours. If you're looking for parental controls to help monitor kids and prevent distraction during remote school while you are working, pick another router. This one won't help you but it certainly might help your kids with not doing schoolwork. Today was the last straw - I'm researching for a new, reliable router.

Purchased 5 years ago. Performance has always been subpar. Drops 2.4 wireless more and more lately. 5.0 wireless has always sucked if more than one wall was between router and computer. This lives in a media closet so always a wall between router and computer. Will definitely look at different brand when I finally trash this one. Firmware has been regularly updated.

Purchased about 6 months ago to replace an older linksys router, the third that I’ve owned. The router dropped signal often and had to be rebooted regularly. Shortly after I bought it I was about to return it but linksys tec support was able to help get it somewhat stable. Recently it stopped working and linksys tec support agreed to replace it. My home is dependent on WiFi for security, medical devices, and entertainment. I purchased a Night Hawk X10 to replace the linksys rather than wait for the replacement to arrive. After using the Night Hawk for only a short time I will not go back to linksys.

      Hi Jlake,

We understand the difficulty that you went through with the EA9500 router as it should refrain from rebooting itself and should work consistently without any issues. We do hope that you'll still give our device another try and use it once the replacement unit will arrive. Should you change your mind, our Escalation Engineers would be more than willing to assist you in setting it up and making sure that it is well-optimized so it will function properly in your network.

Great overall router, but haven't noticed much of a difference from much cheaper routers and this one. Range isn't much further either. Basically does the job, but would of expected more from the router based on size and price.

Terrible Router and Terrible Customer Support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased the Linksys AC5400 router about a week ago and it has been nothing but problems. I decided to upgrade from my Netgear Nighthawk X4 AC2600 router to have on that could give me a little more range. I have over 10 devices in home that are connected to wifi and it was terrible. I receive 300 mbps and was receiving kbps. I thought this was kind of weird going from my AC2600 router which worked amazingly to this router that should be way more powerful. I lose signal going into my next room. So I tried to exchange the router and tried a new one thinking it could be a hardware issue. Still having issues, tried to contact Linksys and got nothing but DISSATISFYING SERVICE. I was told at one point there was nothing they could do. I will never purchase another Linksys product again.

Fails to support open NAT with more than 1 xbox

I spent several hours with Cisco/Linksys support and even RMA'd the device to try and resolve my NAT issues. Netgear router that I have now works perfectly fine. This router works very well for everything EXCEPT XBOX. If you have 2 Xbox or more, do not buy. For everything else, the router works great. I'm an MCSE and have been doing home networks for 15+ years. I have experience dealing with proper NAT setups, so I assure you, it isn't a missed option.

    NO WIFI Signal x 2

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I run a small business and am very dependennt on my router/network. I purchased the EA9500 thinking it would be a workhorse and sturdy at a steep price. The first one stopped putting out a wifi signal after several months. I called customer service and they reluctantly sent out a refurbished replacement after diagnosing remotely. Now the refurbished unit has the same exact problem ....again it is not broadcasting a wifi signal at all . I thought linksys made excellent products but am I just unlucky that I got two duds or is the EA9500 just a bad product in their line up of routers? Customer service told me that it is out of warranty so that is $400 wasted. I only work at this location 2 days a week so it does not get that much use. It caused several days of disruption to my businesss being that I had two of them break.

    Awful Upload Speed

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

DO NOT BUY THIS ROUTER. I've had this item for over 60 days and though it start4ed off with a few hiccups. Nowdays I am averaging 40 mbps download speed (which is bad) and .10 upload speed (which is AWFUL). Upload speed at that rate is unusable for any significant online activity (multiplayer gaming or uploading video to website or social media) and breaks all internal camera usage (like a nest) I've spent a total of 3 hours on the phone at three different occasions with customer service and they are literally reading me solution from internet forums. (I know, because I hear them reading the same solutions I've already tried with the same syntax errors). This router is so 'new' that I have to wait for 'engineers' to call me back to help me fix it. I'm at a loss. And I'm pass the return period so I'm stuck with this $400 blocky box of awful. Heed my warning and buy anything else.

    Disappointed

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Returned a different router (Orbi) that would show me how much total data was downloaded, but not per device. The Linksys web site mentions the Network Map and Internet Usage button that would provide this info. Turns out, the Internet Usage button is not supported on this router. I can't even get the total download data provided by my previous Router. This is important due to the Internet Data Caps to avoid extra charges and identify high users. Very disappointing given the price of this router.

*****Caution******* I purchased this device over 3 years ago, I could honestly say I wasted $400. A couple of months ago I turned the router off and it took over an hour before it would turn back on. Well today I turned the router off and it would not turn back on. I called tech support, the agent was very helpful and deemed the router defective, and because I'm a few months past the warranty, I now have a piece of junk that I paid $400 for. I would seriously look at another manufacture before you consider purchase a Linksys product!!!

Be prepared to have to reset router

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is a great router when it is connected. Unfortunately, it has a propensity to reset it's address, which will cause your network to go down. You will have to get a command prompt in Windows and run IPCONFIG to find out what the router address is in order to log in and fix it. A complete PITA. This is the ONLY router I've ever seen this behavior with. There are far too many choices to risk it.

Signal drops. Worked okay when new. Linksys support walked me thru technical changes. Disabling all the bells and whistles just to make it work correctly. Weekly resets are now daily resets. I'm done. Linksy support will tell you its your fault. Had internet provider do a complete reinstall. Time and money on my part. Still no changes to the erratic wifi signals and drops. Im out $360 for a router less than a year old. Four year support warranty is nonsense and waste of time. Dont buy it.
