I was looking for a router that could handle many (35+) devices at once, with 14 hardwired and the rest on wifi (mixed 2.4GHz and 5GHz devices). I do a lot of video streaming and have gigabit speed internet, so was looking for those specs as well. I'm not anywhere close to an IT pro, but I'm not a complete novice either when it comes to setting up tech either. After such a bad experience with this router, this was my first time buying a Linksys product and will also be my last. I'm not loyal to any particular router brand, just want a router that does what I'm looking for in a router and actually do those things without major issues. I ordered online and received this item on Sept 7th. Initial setup was okay, but a bit long compared to other routers I've set up. It was all downhill from there. From the outset, the Smart Connect option that automatically chooses which 5GHz band (1 or 2) to be on for the particular device really wasn't all that smart. It would drop the wifi connection when deciding which band was better for the device to be on. It wasn't a matter of a specific device, device brand (iPad vs Fire tablet, various brands of laptops), or device form (tablet/phone/computer) - it just wouldn't connect to the second 5GHz band. To get the 5GHz band to work at it, means going into the settings and disabling Smart Connect. Doing this automatically disables the second 5GHz band and there's no re-enabling it independently once Smart Connect is disabled. I might as well of bought a dual-band router. In addition to that, was the increasingly frequent totally dropped connections. With each passing day, the router had shorter and shorter times that it would be connected without having to be power cycled. Even after many hard resets to the router (and modem), the issue remained. Finally, on October 1st and after just 23 DAYS of initial set-up, it completely died. After doing yet another power cycle and hard reset, it would continuously reboot itself because it was unable to find/connect to the network. Contacted Linksys and asked me about the power supply that I was using with it. "Ummm.... the one came with it, when I bought it a few weeks ago." The customer service rep authorized a return and I received a replacement router several days later. Did a bit of Googling to find there is a common issue with the power supply of this router and other Linksys routers as the power supply can't provide the full power it needs to function properly. Seriously the power supply is something that would be included with a basic, no-frills laptop - roughly the same size/build as the one that came my Lenovo Ideapad 110s 11.6" - and not a very high end consumer router. The replacement router was a pain to set up and took several attempts over the course of 5 hours to finally get it set up. Still not entirely sure what made it finally connect as it would get stuck in the set-up process at different times in the failed attempts. Nonetheless, the replacement router had the same issues as the initial one and just as quickly too. So, now less than two months later both the original router and its replacement have stopped working. Out the nearly $380 I spent on (including taxes and after a 10% coupon) it, not to mention the $30 dollars to ship back the original router to Linksys and the many hours of having to set it up and hard resetting/power cycling it many times. As for a replacement, I bought a NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S AC4000 (R8000P) from another site (it isn't sold on BestBuy.com, maybe in the near future) and it arrived today. The router was only released in late August and there's very little in the of tech expert reviews for it. Set-up was a breeze and the second 5GHz band actually works, without even having to enable Smart Connect. The power supply was bulky and looks like it can handle the router, so not a negative for me. While the Netgear can handle 4000 mbps vs the Linksys' 5400 mbps across the three bands, but the Netgear has over 800mbps available due to the fact that the second 5GHz band never worked on the Linksys.

      Hi,

This is definitely not the experience we want for our customers. It's quite unfortunate about the challenges that you experience with the Linksys router. If you still have the unit, we can have our Escalation Engineers look into the device further.

Just send us your contact details at [email protected] along with the link to this post.

We hope to hear from you soon.

      Regards,

No shortage of antennas on this bad boy. Struggled with whole house coverage for a long time until this jewel came along. Now I can even get respectable wi-fi in the yard. Totally satisfied.

As an IT professional, i am very familiar with Linksys products. That said I still did my research by reading reviews and comparing this product against other routers in its class. My choice was based on ease of setup, proven performance and the quality of support that Linksys has historically provided. I configured this router in less than 15 minutes and all of my streaming, email and web browsing are working flawlessly.

This WiFi router is a monster. I have not had any issues now with slow loading and buffering. My old system would constantly default me to the neighbor's equipment. No this one!

This router works great. After trying DLink and other routers of the same class this router turned out to be the only router that worked consistently. A lot of the other 5GHz routers fail and drop out all of the time. This one works great and has decent range. The range is about what you expect, but a little less than the packaging advertises. That is the only drawback as the speed and connection quality are typically very strong.

Hands down the best router I’ve owned. We have 5 fairly tech people in our smart house that is roughly 1,700 square feet on the main floor and 1,500 square feet in the basement. This router handles all of the devices with no issues. Never do we experience lag or connectivity issues. I’d recommend to anyone looking for high speed connectivity for multiple devices.

I was having issues with speed and connectivity with my old Linksys router (6 years old). I purchased this and what a change it was. We run 1 X-Box, 4 phones, 2 laptops, 1 iPad, 4 smart TV's and 2 Blu-Ray players. My speed tests went from 20 - 30 mbps to 99 - 100 mbps. I love the prioritization feature so I can ensure our video streaming pre-empts the kids games....NO LAG.

I already had a very high end router before I bought this one, but I decided to upgrade because it was two years old. I already had good range and speed, but this router just took everything up to the extreme. I now have a signal at the furthest most corners of my back yard and at the end of my driveway which I did not have before. Speed is consistent throughout my house and I am a happy customer.

For your home use, multi-crazy tons of WiFi devices, and you need range to cover a large house- this can't be beat. I've used tons of routers over the years, Netgear, Asus, Linksys, Dlink and more. Nothing compares to this monster. It's huge, and ugly, but it performs like no other router. The last time I had a router I was this happy with was the WRT54G that was the most bullet proof router of its day.

This router increased my bottleneck of my wireless n router. I was running around 25Mbps and now I am at 150Mbps. The usb ports on back hold two external hard drives and since it has eight Ethernet ports i can put it in my entertainment center with wired connections to home media pc, Xbox one, tv and my bad with room to spare. It is a good size but all good things come in big packages.

We had previously owned a router, modem combo. After purchasing this router with a separate modem our problems were solved of our laptop getting bumped from the internet. This unit may be a bit more horse power than we initially needed but it allows for future expansion. Also has the feature for a guest wifi so you don't have to worry about giving your own login information. I would recommend anyone to buy a product that fits your needs.Do some research and utilize your Best Buy associate if you prefer. I think Linksys makes a great product.

Old router was apple it was very good but needed an upgrade this router is top of the line. If you have a lot of devices on your network l recommend this router. Also has an app where you can prioritize 3 things. Before l had to use a switch but this router has 8 Ethernet ports so l no longer use the switch. Overall this upgrade was worth it.

I have had this router for a month and has worked perfect for me. My internet speed has increased, 2.4 ghz reaches the whole house. 5ghz almost reaches the whole house. We have two xboxs going on the same time, 4 laptops, multiple ipads & iphones connected. Xboxs are always on OPen Nat Type unless playing call of duty seems thats the only game that will have open on one and Moderate on other. no lag or dropped connections. I am really blown away by this router. Exceeded my expectations as well as my internet speed connections.
