    Fantastic Next-Generation Router

This router is a beast! First off, it is big. I have been using an Actiontec router from Verizon for quite a few years, and compared to that, this is huge. It has 8 antenna's on it to provide excellent coverage around your home. The MU-MIMO (Multi-User, Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output) technology is a really nice feature, making it feel like every device connected to it has it's own dedicated router. I currently have a 50/50 connection, and have been seeing those speeds through the router, even though I currently have it piggybacked through my Actiontec router (I still need that active for my on-demand TV guides for my STBs around the house). My son is constantly streaming on his iPad, my wife too, I have a MacBook pro running and our phones connected... along with a plethora of home automation equipment, including Nest Protects/Nest Cams, Honeywell Thermostat, Kevo Doorlocks, Philips Hue Lights, Chamberlain MyQ Garage Opener, Rachio Sprinkler Controller and an Amazon Echo to control it all. Everything is working in sync since the switch over. And talking of switch-over, the Linksys Smart Wifi lets you access your network anytime, via computer or through the mobile app. There you can see the status of all connected equipment, make changes, rename devices (to make sense to you and not some random Serial No) and even give priorities to the connection of devices. The user interface is also very slick and intuitive. Another feature I like is the ability to set up a dedicated Guest network. I may have been able to do that on my previous router, but it wasn't intuitive. The Linksys EA9500 made this really easy. Having 8 Gigabit ethernet ports on the back of the device are great for those of you with Home Automation set ups, where you have to connect several hubs to the router to activate all of the difference products. With my previous router, I had run out of ports to be able to introduce more Smart Home products. This router alleviates that problem, without having to buy an additional switcher. I've owned the router for about a week now, and haven't had any negative experience with it at all. Set up was a breeze, it auto configures, sets itself up, and then with the Smart Wifi, you can go in and pair down what you need, where you want it, rename devices and to be honest, Linksys have made it feel like you are in control of the device and not the other way around. I look forward to pushing the router to it's limits in the future as I move to a larger home. But so far, this router is fast, sleek and trouble free.

Lets start off with a disclaimer. I received this router as part of the Best Buy tech insider program at no cost in exchange for my honest review of the product. This router is being used in a 4500 square foot house. The home has a main floor and a partially finished basement. The router is located in the only upstairs room in the house, a bonus room above the garage that is the termination site of all of my wired and wireless connections for the home. I have Time Warner cable and am using a surfboard SB6141 cable modem. Lets start by talking about the router itself. The router is bigger than other routers I have owned. But there is a lot of technology inside this box. The router has 8 antennas that are permanently attached but are designed to be directed at devices in the home. There are two usb ports, one usb 2 and a usb 3 port. This router has 8 gigabit LAN ports on the back and 1 WAN port. There is a power button, a WPS button, a wireless on/off button and a reset button as well. The router features tri-beam technology and Mu-Mimo technology to increase network speeds. When you set up the router, there will be one 2.4 ghz and one 5 ghz channel available. The third channel is another 5ghz channel that is combined with the first to increase speed (5+5). There is also a 5 and a 2.4 ghz guest network available. Setup is easy. Once you attach the router to the modem, you connect wirelessly (or wired) to the router with your device and follow the instructions. For those who want to get the most out to this router, there is also a manual set up mode. Easy setup requires the router to be connected to the modem and an internet connection established. Wireless coverage in my house is very good, even to the basement rooms. I have not noticed any drop in speed due to distance from the router. I have some devices on the 5ghz side of the router and others on the 2.4ghz side. I have two 4K sony televisions, two cell phones, one ps4, a roku and an amazon fire on the network along with 2 laptops. I have been able to watch 4k movies, download software and play online with the ps4 without any noticeable lag from any of the streaming devices. I have used the Linksys EA9500 router for 4 days and I have not seen any issues with range or speed. To this point, this router is the best I have used. The 8 LAN ports of the back will also make it convenient to add wired devices to this router. There is also an app that allows you to manage your router from anywhere you have internet access.
