The best Wireless AP in the market
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This device is one of the best Wireless devices I have used, coverage is unbelievable. 8 Antennas gives you coverage more than what I expected. This is good for big space. Too much for small size houses or offices .

Great for several devices
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We upgraded our router to the Linksys triband router and love it. We have had it stop a couple times but it boots right back up. We use a lot of Wi-Fi devices and the router supports all our devices just fine.

A Lot To Ask For
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Linksys, a name I thought would be good. I was skeptic since they were under the Cisco brand and was then sold off to Belkin, which I personally loathe. Being given a chance to review a new router from Linksys, I’ll set it aside and start fresh. The router is larger than any router I’ve owned. It’s significantly larger than my only Linksys router, the famed WRT54G. And it has more than twice the number of antennas on my TP-Link router. Its size is needed to not only have connections to 8 antennas but to 8 gigabit ports at the back. For me, 8 ethernet ports is unheard of in the router world, since I don’t want to spend anything over $100. Due to my current network and internet setup through Verizon FIOS, I cannot test its routing and NAT capabilities. What I can test is its wireless and networking capabilities, and any other minor features built into it. The AC5400 is capable of 11ac, which provides major improvements over 11n. Whether or not that will provide better signal quality or better area coverage remains to be seen. A quick test on wireless speeds on the 5GHz band showed transfers around 60mbit/s or around 7.5MBytes/s. The filesize I tested it on was about 1.4GB and it took around 3 minutes to finish. (details to follow) Testing wired networking speed is a simple matter of transferring a large file from one wired computer to another. Instead of trying to determine the maximum speed while eliminating all possible bottlenecks, I settled for a more practical and real-world scenario. A 10GB file transfer showed speed fluctations between 300mbit/s to up to 700mbit/s. Given the difference in hardware between the two computers, the likely bottleneck is going to be the hard drive at either end. However, this is several times better than trying to transfer files using a 100mbit/s ethernet connection, which can be easily saturated with today’s computer hardware. If we set aside the possible legal complication from using BitTorrent, connection sustainability can also be a key factor. How well a router can handle multiple incoming and outgoing connections that is associated with BitTorrent can determine whether a router is good for handling Peer-to-Peer traffic. To test this, I downloaded a ISO image of Ubuntu Linux 16.04 Desktop x64 through BitTorrent. It seems capable of handling the download streams without any issue, hitting my maximum download speed with ease. Upstream performance is unknown, as there weren’t a lot of peers to connect to with the same torrent. As a gamer, nothing beats having a wired networking setup. However, a wireless setup can be convenient. And then there are the numerous devices that uses a wireless setup -- smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles. So far, there hasn’t been any hiccups or connectivity issues. Wireless signals were strong to maintain a connection. But tinkering with the router for 24 hours isn’t enough to paint a good enough picture. Lastly, the price… This is a $400 hardware that is packed with everything you’d expect out of a high-end (is it?) router. Personally, that is a very high price for a router. There are cheaper alternative solutions (ie. taking two sub-$200 routers and wiring the two together for even bigger wifi coverage). But in the end, it’s all in what you look for in a router. Is this router worth the price they’re asking for? That, I do not know. But as a frugal buyer, I can think of better ways of spending $400 to get the most out of a network setup. Network Testing Setup: Verizon FIOS to Verizon’s MOCA-based router to Linksys AC5400 Router is stationed on first floor of the house. Wireless testing is done on 2nd floor in a separate room. House is very old, which building material may have performance impact on wireless signal. Congrats/Thanks on reading through all that. Here’s a disclaimer: I only had about 24 hours to tinker and play with the router before compiling this review. I’d prefer to naturally use the router for several weeks, up to 2 months maybe, before I submit a proper review. Consider this to be part review and part first impressions.

Not for my home
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high expectations for this router but it didn’t deliver for my 2 story home with finished basement. With our family of 5 home for work and school, we have about 30 connected devices with about 8 in active use at any one time. After upgrading my internet service and modem to 500mb but still experiencing drops and freezes on Zoom calls, it was time to replace my Nighthawk dual band router with this tri band router. After using the app to set it up, I was disappointed to see a weaker signal throughout the house than my previous router. After an hour troubleshooting with Linksys support, who walked me through manual configuration and channel isolation, they concluded that it was likely a defective antenna. After an exchange through Best Buy, I only saw a marginal improvement with the replacement. Borrowing a friend’s RE9000 extender improved the signal to some parts of the house but speed checks with 2 different apps showed little to no difference from my old router on the main 2 floors but slower speed in the basement. For what I paid, this was a big disappointment so I returned it and with the refund went back to Netgear, who’s technology works better for my home, and got a mesh system which seems to be the recommendation for midsize homes.

Great router
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works much better than my previous ac/n router. Does not support link aggregation with second Ethernet connection, however. Should not be an issue for home use, but for the $$, it should be included.

Great router if you have the space
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First things first. This thing looks like an alien ship and it is HUGE. With the eight adjustable antennae and oversized base, it is wide, deep and tall. I had to find a new location to set it up because the shelf where my previous router sat simply couldn't accommodate the size. Now, with that out of the way, I must say I love this router. The initial setup was a breeze and all of my (15+) devices connected with ease to both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. The coverage is great as well. It easily covers my 2500 sq. ft. home and even extends to reach the pool deck. My old Linksys would sometimes struggle to keep up with my family's streaming demands, but this router easily handles Netflix on 2 TV's, online gaming, and YouTube watching at the same time. I have had it for about 3 months and the up-time has been 100%. Overall, I'm very impressed and would definitely recommend.

Frustrated
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router last year and loved it. Then it started slowing down more - and more - and more. Linksys tech support is ZERO help. Actually tried to "chat" with one of their techs who after the first "hello" never responded. Went through about 100 online blogs to figure out what's going on with it and the final answer is a double shoulder shrug. Linksys "experts" have everyone playing guessing games "Try this" "Try that" and none of it works. I really wish I hadn't purchased it and now it's past the warranty date!. GRRRR.

Gentle Giant
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This one is one powerful router. The size might be a turn off for most household, my previous router was a stand up design and this one is more like a spider-bot spaceship. PROS: - Super easy set-up. As soon as you connected to the network with the temporary password, Linksys Smart Wi-Fi page opens up to prompt you to change the network name and password as you like, from there you are encouraged to change the password for the admin page. - You can connect up to 8 ethernet ports, 1 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0 - Linksys Smart Wi-Fi portal is very robust, you can map out devices connected to the network, parental control, media prioritization. Not to mention it has a built-in speed test by Ookla. CONS: - Size, design - Price

The fastest and most reliable I have used yet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using this router for about a week now, it is the best, fastest, and most reliable router I have ever used. It is big and funky looking, but it is powerful. Set up is a breeze, it literally takes less than 5 minutes and your up and running. You can set up via a browser, I found that is the quickest and easiest way to set up. I have 5 streaming devices to 5 different TVs, I have been using all of them at once to see if there is any slowdown or disconnect, none. Everyone of the TVs have been streaming for hours with no slow down and no disconnecting. This is a powerful router capable of the most demanding use. I can highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for the best and most reliable router available today.
