I replace my Netgear router this one the Netgear seems to have more power even though the Netgear is rated little bit lower power than this one so I'm a little disappointed.

I read a few reviews where folks had some small issues. I think they maybe OE (operator error) because I plug this thing in and it's been running great.

I had an Apple Timecapsule and didn't have the coverage I expected, that's why I bought a different router. It is simple to set it up, but I still don't have the coverage I wanted

There's a sticker on the box that says it has a 3 year warranty on it so I would inquire if you still need to purchase the Geek Squad protection.

First impressions: I've owned many routers over the years, from B band and on. I've never opened a box and said "WOW"!! This router is impressive to look at, from its sheer size and the 8, yes 8 antennas, I expected to get a signal miles away from my home! This router measures approximately 13"x12.5", not a router you can hide behind the couch easily. Like other Linksys routers I've used, this has all the bells and whistles I look for in a router: Good range Separate Guest network Easy to use iPhone app and webpage to manage router settings Dual band 2.4ghz and 5.0ghz (2.4ghz can reach further while 5.0ghz has better bandwidth and is a less crowded). This router has 8 wired gigabit ports! I've never seen that before, most routers have 4-5 ports. I wasn't looking for 8 ports since I have a switch anyway, for some, this would eliminate the need for a separate switch. Other noteworthy features are: 2 USB ports (1x3.0 and 1x2.0), you can use these to plug in a hard drive and a printer and make the accessible over the network. This router also includes 3 year warranty and tech support, much longer than the 1 year most routers come with. Setting up: Getting the EA9500 up and running was a breeze, like other Linsksys routers I've had, it already comes with a network name and a strong password, this is printed on a piece of paper that comes with the router. The webpage to configure the router is very user friendly for the most part. I did have some difficulty locating the "port forward" settings. It was hidden in "Security" - "apps and gaming". Aside from that, the user interface is user friendly and the app is as well. Performance: I keep my router in the basement on a rack along with all my other internet and AV equipment. So in order for a router to pass my test, it needs to reach my bedroom on the 2nd floor from the basement, the house is about 3500 sq ft. I also access a NAS from my phone regularly to stream music, access files and sometimes even steam video. This router has a 1.4Ghz dual core processor, the speed is noticeable when I log in and access files from outside of my network. In the past, when I had a modem provided by my cable company, the log in was much slower. The signal strength was very good to excellent in almost all of my house. The increased signal strength was more noticeable on my iPhone 6 on the 5.0Ghz network. I have about 12-15 devices on my network, wired and wireless, from receivers, Amazon fireTV, surveillance cameras to thermostats, everything ran fine without any issues. The soft "WPS" button in the Linksys app and configuration page made setting up devices a bit easier (this button is so you don't have to manually type in long complicated passwords on your devices). The signal strength was strong throughout my house. I didn't have any dead spots like I had with previous routers. One thing to note, I did not notice any improvement in performance vs the EA7500 that I had reviewed earlier. With the increased size, antennas and not to mention price, I would've thought it would be much better. Conclusion: This is a beautiful router, sort of a like the Hummer of routers, big and bold! If you're looking for a router that is robust, powerful, user friendly that can handle multiple devices without slowdown, this one is for you!

      Hi, Wifiit,

Interference in your area could be a factor affecting the router's wireless coverage. Moreover, there are steps that we could have tried to improve its coverage. For optimal performance, it would help if we have set fixed channels of both networks.

Should you need help with your other Linksys products, please get in touch with us at [email protected] so that we can help you get in touch with one of our Escalation Engineers for a faster solution.

The first thing you'll probably notice about this router is it's size. It's not small. And it doesn't feel flimsy. It's heavy and feels very well constructed. The first thing my girlfriend said when I took it out of the box was that it looked like a spider (which, flipping it over, it definitely does). Overall, I've used a lot of routers that are usually very light and they after you plug a few cables in the back, they don't sit still. The heft on this router is very nice and the rubber feet keep it sitting still. Still something to consider when buying is if you have space to let this guy breath. This is my first 802.11AC router. I don't have many devices that can connect to it yet, but I was able to run a few tests from my iPhone and was blown away. This replaced an ASUS 802.11N router that was no slouch but after connecting to this router wirelessly and connecting to an iperf server that was wired straight to the router, my speed tests went from about 90-100Mb/s to 350-400Mb/s. Obviously, those are local network speeds so you'll need the internet access to be able to take advantage of those speeds when connecting outside of your home. My internet is currently 110Mb/s so I was still able to max it out on my old router. Range seemed very comparable to my old N router. I walked around my apartment with my MacBook and watched the signal strength and quality fluctuate. There was probably a slight boost with this router but it wasn't anything to write home about. That said, I never had any huge range problems to begin with so saying that it's only slightly better than what was already pretty great is an accomplishment. I also have the WiFi extender that's supposed to pair with this router to offer seemless roaming so I'll be posting a review of that when I get it connected and have a chance to test it out on the corners of my apartment where the signal dips a little bit. The software! I've used Linksys/Cisco routers in the past and the software always seemed like it stayed the same was it was in about 1999. The new software has fancy transitions and just looks overall nicer. I could probably do with a few less of the bells and whistles for a slight speed bump in some loading tasks but overall, I'm happy with it. A couple of things I'm not super fond of in the software is a lack of a bandwidth monitor to see where your bandwidth is going and they want you to sign up for a Linksys account and log in through their site. Apparently it gives you access to your router from away from home if you're in to that kind of thing but I skipped that step (which they did let me do, so it's not that big of a deal). After digging through the various options, the software does feel a little more watered down that I would like. It's powerful enough to do most things but if you're coming from a modified firmware like Tomato or ASUS Merlin, you might be left craving some more tweakable options. Overall, I'm quite happy with the day or so that I got to play around with this router and will be holding out hope that some extra features get added to the software like a bandwidth meter and some more advanced settings.
