I loved the router and the speed it provided, it just conflicted with my modem because my modem is wireless, and I didn't know that at the time of purchase. Otherwise if I was in the mode for a new modem that is not already wireless. When I hooked it up to just my computer, the speed was super fast.

When it comes to wireless routers, the primary features in question are signal strength and throughput. All the other bells and whistles are normally just icing on the cake for above average users, and untapped potential for the standard user. This router has exceptional range and throughput. The data speeds and signal strength are outstanding. The signal is not only strong, but very consistent and penetrating. I would say it could provide wall to wall coverage of a home, even with the device situated on one end of the house. It's excellent. As far as features, the AC5400 has all the standard router features. Whether it's dynamic routing, VLANs, DHCP, MAC cloning, port forwarding, etc.. It more than covers them. As with other Linksys routers, this device has the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi administrative system. It is very easy to setup and allows users to administrate multiple devices from a single account - from anywhere. Very helpful stuff. The device has 8 gigabit ethernet ports. Yes 8! I must say, I was very excited about this feature. The additional ports allow for more flexibility and expansion. The unit is BIG! It's heavy, for a router, and quite possibly could be considered. Don't Look to hide this away somewere; it's a beast! The worst thing about this router is the price. $400 is just too much for the consumer.

    Great Workhorse

I purchased this router a few years ago, when I moved into my current home, (2800 sqft). My old linksys router just wasn’t cutting it. After much research I settled on the EA9500. It covered the whole house except for a little spotty service in one room on the far side. At the time my router could only go in one room on the first floor all the way on one side of the house. But this little beastie was up to the task. It’s eight antennas blast the 2.4Ghz channel well throughout almost the whole house and the two 5Ghz channels, while not traveling as far as the 2.4Ghz, offer a consistent 800mhz-1Gig wireless speed. It offers an 8 port gig switch, which comes in handy when you want to hard wire your devices without buying extra equipment. All the antennas and the 8 port switch makes for a large device. So keep that in mind when deciding on where you want to place it. As stated before, I bought this a while ago, before the mesh network craze hit. So when linksys came out with the velop mesh system I decided to see if I could finally cover that back room with consistent Wi-Fi. I bought the 3 velop system, set it up, and was vastly disappointed. I reviewed that purchase on Best Buy, I go into great detail with the problems I ran into. After packing up that not ready for prime time system, I pulled out my trusty EA9500, grabbed my phone for the smart Wi-Fi app and set it all back up again in about 6 1/2 minutes, (I had returned it to factory settings with the intention of selling it). I was able to fish some cat6 in order to place the router in the center of the house, purchased a RE7000 max stream range extender, setting it up as a wired range extender, gave it the same settings (SSID, passwords, etc.) and now I have the basic functions of a mesh network. My wireless devices roam from router to extender seamlessly. The smart Wi-Fi app is great with this router, the parental controls are a godsend. The app lends itself to allow you to get as hands on as you want. For me it boils down to this, this router has worked problem free, no disconnects, no locking up, etc., for the better part of 2-3 yrs. That was worth the price right there.

First two things to know. I am a senior citizen and live in a very rural area, so rural that our only internet provider is via satellite. Can't even get more than one bar on our cell service and we have tried them all. I love tech stuff. We received this router and it took longer to find a spot to place it in my office than to set it up. It is very large! We had already been using a Linksys router so we had the app, the account and knew it would probably be compatible with our satellite modem. All went perfectly! No issues at all. Simple enough for a senior citizen. Lol. I was hoping that our speeds would increase, but no substantial difference. Only so much that great technology can do with latency and distance to outer space where our satellite beams. We are improved on the number of devices that function much more quickly and all at the same time. No need to take turns looking at face book. Our range is much much greater with full bars all over our house. This was a great product to try out and am very excited that it works beautifully. Highly recommend it!

I returned this router since several devices in my home kept dropping off the network continually. Also, original reviews stated that this router supported VPN (which it doesn't). I ended up buying a Asus RT-AC5300 instead and it has worked flawlessly.

When i get routers, i dont see why anyone would review it after a few days use, these things need time and now iv had this a little while i can write my review and no im giving my honest opinion. First of, this router is big... like really big and not something you can place to hide away, its an enterprise router not a home router though can be used in a home. The range of reception on this is excellent, it by far given me the best coverage around my home and my office, the tri band is perfect and allows multiple connections without any loos of quality to your service. Its been super reliable for me, in the 6 weeks ish that i have had this i have only has to restart it once and i honestly think that was more to do with my actual modem than the router. Its easy to set up, the software makes everything simple and very self explanatory. If you are a small business or have a larger home then this is a unit i would 100% recommend as this will offer you great speeds and awesome ranges.

When it worked, it helped us get great WiFi signal to the top floor of our large home. I was pleased until it reset itself to factory settings randomly and then last week—after only 60 days of use—it stopped working entirely. I expect better from a $400 router.

The device was suppose to be an upgrade and cover my 1500 sq ft home top and bottom floor. I was told I would not need an extender for this space but that is not true. It covers the top floor but extender is still required for the lower floor.

      Hi slaneusa,

We appreciate your feedback. The range of the router will depend on where it is placed and the type of interference around it. If the router is too far, or there are thick walls between the router and other rooms, you will experience challenges with its coverage.

If you have further questions about the router, feel free to email us at [email protected] and we'll help you as best we can.

We hope to hear from you soon.

Best MU-MIMO router I have used!

This is the best router I have ever used (I have owned and have used over 20). It was super easy to install. Unpacking and setup required less than 15 minutes. I read and followed the easily understandable instructions. I then configured the LINKSYS EA9500 MAX-STREAM™ AC5400 TRI-BAND WI-FI ROUTER using their Linksys Smart Wi-Fi software. I was able to prioritize my attached devices, allocating bandwidth where needed. I now have faster and more consistent connections than ever before. I live in a very electronic “noisy” area with over 25 networks visible at any given point in time. The centrally located router reaches my entire location except for one dead spot. I corrected the dead spot by using a Linksys MaxStream RE7000-AC1900 Wall Plug-In Range Extender with MU-MIMO to obtain complete coverage. Simple install, great build quality, great technical specs, great performance and great management software. The Technical specs are cutting edge at this time. This is what computing should be – “it just works!”
